Hi everyone- I'm back with another update here. We're going back and taking a look at Highway 61 and how progress is coming with it. This update will focus on the Department of Transportation's efforts to improve a 3-mile stretch of the highway north of Argentum, in an area known as Gray Creek. Gray Creek is a primarily industrial area, and a dirty one at that. There's also a great deal of farmland in the area. As you can see from these pre-construction pics, Highway 61 was in very rough shape. (All these...

The Mis Arrives . . .

Hi everyone- Back with another update. I think you'll enjoy this one. Yes, the MIS has arrived--if you've been following the RHW Development thread [link], things have been coming along on it quite nicely, with a lot of development over the past week or so. Well, at any rate, here's one of the projects slated for the Bob Dylan Freeway (Highway 61 )--the Ferrum Road interchange, which is located on the north side of Argentum, in the Tarentum neighborhood. Ferrum Road is particularly critical to North...

Hi everyone- Just back for a quick update, the first in quite some time. RL and getting things done on the MIS setup have occupied my time as of late, but I've got some interesting things to show here. This pictures aren't terribly exciting, but they show how work is now progressing on Highway 104 (formerly Highway 4) near downtown. As you can see, there's a lot of earth getting upturned here. Some of this land will be redeveloped, and some of it will go toward improving 104, which will certainly need it...

Hi again everyone- Work has begun on the new Highway 61 alignment. This was Highway 61 at Campus Boulevard: Here it is now. The old highway has been completely demolished. A number of nearby structures had to be demolished to make room for the new highway. One potential issue in the proposed alignment has been found. This is at the current intersection of Milpont Road and Skill Street (facing south). The proposed plan had the interchange with the new Highway 4 alignment near this exact spot. As you can...

Hi everyone- Back again. Just wanted to show you the proposed plan for Argentum's highways, on which you'll be able to see some of the future projects in the works. Here's the immediate area around Argentum where most of the highways are. (Don't worry, those black spots in the thumbnail pic are actually white when you open it up.) And here's the (rather rough) proposed plan. Many of the details involving the interchange designs and any needed realignment of surface streets aren't on here yet, but this...

Hi again everyone- I'm making two updates in two days, which is unheard of for me usually. I think you may enjoy this one. As we left off with the last update, I showed the mess that Argentum's roads and highways were in, including the infamous Caldera Lane disaster. Well, I'm happy to report that progress has been going extremely well on Caldera Lane. A few updates ago, the interchange with Barnaby Drive was demolished, and Skill Street was re-routed. (Image fixed, thanks Pat for catching it! ) Public...

Hi everyone- Thanks for all the comments and support, and many thanks to the site's staff for the Special Interest recognition this month--I'm really quite flattered, especially to be in the company of some of the other MDs that have been in here, and are currently in here. Back with another update. We're back to Argentum again to look at various inadequacies in the regional transportation system, and in the next few updates, I'll be showing some solutions to these issues. You may be wondering, what is the...

Hi everyone- Finally back with an update. The first phase of the Gilmour Parkway project has more or less been completed, aside from a few aesthetic touches. This phase converted Gilmour Avenue from 2 travel lanes to a 4-lane divided route between South 22nd Avenue and the S-Curve, and extended the route to an intersection with Highway 24/Wakeman Boulevard. Here's Gilmour Street on the S-Curve just past 18th Avenue, facing east: The partial redesign of the S-Curve (2,3) (The portion between the S-Curve and...

Random Maps and Stuff

Very brief update here. Seeing what David's been doing over at 3RR, it's put me in a map-making mood. I'll be back with more a little later. Updated Wakeman Map--you'll be seeing the implications of this map very, very soon. Remember that ultra-curvy road from that mosaic? Well, here is how it looks on the map. And a random shot from Highway 32, in the southernmost part of the Cascadia Gorge region. This is one of the highest points in the entire region. -Alex (Tarkus)

Suburbia Arrives

Hi everyone- Back for another update. Well, lots of interesting stuff is going on in Wakeman. First, a new waterfront hotel, overlooking both the Cascadia River and Gilmour Inlet has been built at the intersection of Banks Way and Kaye Drive. (Anyone get the reference at that intersection?) As you can see, the new hotel is hooked up to the start of a new pedestrian trail system, which will eventually lead all over Wakeman. And another development. This is at the intersection of Wakeman Boulevard and 22nd...

Hi everyone- Back in the swing of things. Yes, two updates in a week. Hard to believe, I know. This update, we're going back to Wakeman to take a look at a few new things going on. Since I'll be referring to a lot of specific street names, if you're interested in following along, here's linkage back to the most recent edition of the Wakeman city map. First of all, South Gilmour Street has become possibly the most traversed east-west route through the city, connecting the rest of town to the retail...

Tarkusian Cities is back, with a blast from the past--an update from Argentum, as promised. For those of you who don't remember it, Argentum was the city/region I showcased in my first ever MD (which still sits in the Completed MD section, if you're curious). It was somewhat of a transitional region for me, and it's still rather rough. But I spent so much time with it that I'm rather attached to it still, so this will likely be the first of many "Argentum Revisited" updates, in which I'll be smoothing out...

Hi everyone- Here's a mini-mosaic of South Latimer Road, headed toward Camel Point State Park. This is about 5 miles west of Wakeman. A look at some more construction: Another shot of the "mystery site". As you may notice, it's right next to the river. But it's not a seaport, if that's what your thinking. All of you who guessed a "freeway" are correct. Highway 24 will be re-routed, off of South Wakeman Boulevard and onto a new freeway alignment. There will be some interesting challenges to face with this...

New Road Map

Hi everyone- Back with another update. Today, it's back to Wakeman to look at a few new developments changing the face of town. You may remember the commercial strip along South 11th Avenue: Now that area has sprung a sizeable new residential development. (Public Works had better hurry up with the South 11th project . . .) Just north of downtown, major changes are occurring at the intersection of S 11th and Banks Way. In the city's transportation plan, this will soon be a major intersection. As part of the...

Wide S-Curve Tutorial

Hi everyone- Just thought I'd post a little tutorial about a small discovery I've made with the curve puzzle pieces. Don't know how useful this will be to too many people, but I thought it was worth sharing. Basically, I found a way to create a longer S-Curve using the 45-Curve pieces. (Sorry for the gridlines. ) At any rate, here's what it looked like at the start. In order for it to look right, you'll need to flatten the ground. I basically placed Street stubs in the path of where the puzzle pieces will...

Another update?! I know this goes against my usual style, but here's Update 2. Well, seen as how I had a mosaic and an obligatory curvy road picture last time, I thought . . . why not combine the two? Here's an obligatory curvy road mosaic. This is again looking south along Belew Mountain Road, which is located on the eastern edge of the map. This fairly desolate spot, using the existing road networks, could be reached from Wakeman after about an 8 mile journey.

Mosaic Of Wakeman

here's a shot of essentially the entire city of Wakeman, facing east. As you can see, it's still quite small. Population is about 7,000 at this point. Here's a few more shots from downtown Wakeman: This is facing east along South Market Street near 5th Avenue, looking at the Library and Post Office. And a mosaic of a portion of downtown, mostly centered along Market Street (which is the "main drag" through downtown), facing west, between 10th and 6th. (My first attempt at this sort of thing . . .) A few...

Intro--City Of Wakeman

I'll begin here by showing the region of Cascadia Gorge and its main city, Wakeman. Here's a region shot, taken back before the majority of the development had started. The map I'm using is the NHP Kinbasket Lake map, by beskhu3epnm and Heblem. I've "desertified" it (as I am prone to doing) with c.p.'s Grand Canyon terrain mod. My main inspiration for this region is again one in RL, the section of the Columbia River Gorge that forms the border between Oregon and Washington for some 150 miles, an area which...
