Hi everyone- I'm back (after a lengthy fight with ImageShack ) with another road widening project in the City of Los Endos, with the city's eponymous thoroughfare. A few little mapping loose ends to take care of . . . I decided to measure the "lengthwise" (East-West) oriented city blocks (flowing with the numbered/lettered streets), and found that they were generally about 258 feet (~78.7m). I set up a "block grid" in Inkscape, and I found out that some of the numbered streets around the east side had some...

Now onto the interchange and improvements to Highway 94: Highway 94 with the new ramps just west of the new interchange. The closed road there with the bulldozers is 15th Street, the former alignment of Highway 33 (looking west). As you can see, it's been closed and can no longer access the highway. The north segment will be demolished completely, whereas the southern portion will simply dead-end. Richland Lane at Highway 33, looking west toward the Highway 94 onramp. The dirt there on the corner is the...

Hi everyone- Tarkusian Cities is still alive . . . I'll be back with a larger update here in a bit, but to hold you over, here's a little larger map of Los Endos, expanding out to the city tile to the east of the main one, which you'll be seeing a lot more of soon. -Alex (Tarkus)

Highway 33 Realignment, Indus Way to Richland Lane, Los Endos This project will realign Highway 33 in the City of Los Endos between Indus Way and Richland Lane on a perfectly straight alignment, eliminating many sharp corners. In addition, the junction of Highway 33 with the Desert Lakes Highway, Highway 94, will be upgraded from an at-grade intersection to a grade-separated diamond/parclo hybrid interchange. When finished, Highway 33 will be routed down a newly constructed extension of East 18th Street,...

Hi everyone- Tarkusian Cities is finally back with a brand-new region, which will, as you can probably guess, has some construction projects under way. We'll get back to Argentum and the Highway 261 project in a little bit. LOS ENDOS: An Overview Current Population: 36,000 Map Aerial image, facing north Downtown Los Endos, at the corner of 0th Street and Unassigned Way, with a glimpse of the parking lot for Delos Community College. IN ASSOCIATION WITH Parallel-Peninsula Corridor Project This project will realign Parallel Drive west of Costa Drive, directly connecting it to Peninsula Drive, reconfiguring several intersections along Costa Drive in the process. In addition, the intersections on Costa Drive with Parallel Drive, Peninsula Avenue, Villeneuve Street and Eastshore Circle will be improved to allow for better traffic flow on these streets. The disconnected western segment of Parallel Drive left by the project will be closed...

Sneaking in a little update . . . some preparations for Highway 261 in Argentum. Here's a map from before the changes in this update (quite a way back in October . . . haven't found a more recent, accurate one with this city tile included) Here's the most recent map of Argentum, showing the changes from this update (and some from the next couple updates--also included in the "big" map): And speaking of maps, I know there's some interest in my uploading the big map from Update 32 onto ImageShack . . ....

Argentum Map Teaser

Little teaser of things to come . . . More or less re-built the map from scratch . . . with all the various new additions. Argentum's changed quite a lot. There's a few new road names on there, too, that you'll find interesting. Back with more shortly. -Alex (Tarkus)

Hi everyone- I have something you may enjoy here . . . A full-street level map of the entire Argentum region (36 large tiles--6x6 square). . . It's still a bit of a rough draft, so there's quite a bit that isn't marked up yet, most of the "hard stuff" is done. I've largely only focused on 3-4 tiles of the region in this MD, so there's a lot that will be completely new here. And if you're wondering what those thin black lines are, they're Railroads . . . I still need to clean up the details on them a...

A New Airport?

Well, I hinted that there may be an Airport involved in this update. And indeed there is. I've actually made my first real serious attempt at building a custom modular airport. I may be a bit of a roadgeek, but my knowledge of airports is very limited, so I'm sure I probably have some things to improve here. Thus, without further adieu, I'd like to introduce the soon-to-be-opened Argentum International Airport (Airport Code ARX), which is located at the Kirkton, along Angstrom Lake, and about 7 miles...

Peninsula City

The locale I'll be focusing on this update is Peninsula City (pop. 3704), which is surrounded by Emerson Lake and situated on the Costa Norte Peninsula, which is about 3 miles due west of downtown Argentum. Despite its proximity to Argentum, it has a distinct small town feel to it. This is perhaps due to the fact that Peninsula City has managed to avoid being annexed into Argentum. First of all, a map of Peninsula City. Relatively easy to get around. Here is an overhead shot of Peninsula City, looking...

1St Anniversary

Well, this 1st Anniversary Update is going to be a bit brief . . . but I hope you enjoy it. I figured I'd show before and after photos of Argentum and Wakeman, from when I started showing them in this MD (and its predecessor), compared to how they look now. Here's what Wakeman looked like back in Update 1, on July 1st, 2007. (both pics looking east) And here it is now. The subdivision I showed last time is more or less in place now (though it will get expanded further), as well as a couple of other things...

South 22nd Avenue Extension: Wakeman to Latimer This project will extend South 22nd Avenue from South Wakeman Boulevard, south to South Latimer Road. The new roadway will consist of 3 travel lanes, one of which will be a center left turn lane, with a 35mph (60 km/h) speed limit. While some of the area that the proposed extension will run through is currently in unincorporated Palmer County, it will be annexed into the Wakeman City Limits with the completion of the project. The existing intersection of 22nd...

Wakeman Boulevard Project This project will widen Wakeman Boulevard (Highway 24) from 2 to 5 lanes (4 with center turn lane) between South 6th Avenue and South 22nd Avenue in the Wakeman City Limits. This section of roadway is the busiest in the area, averaging 54,000 trips per day.1 (Here's another link to the current Wakeman map, for your convenience: ) This was the existing segment Wakeman Boulevard, between the intersections with South 11th and 17th Avenues. You can see the Right-of-Way is already...

In response to increasing traffic on 22nd Avenue on the west side of town, the City of Wakeman's public works department has decided to widen 22nd from 2 lanes, to 3 lanes (2 with 1 center turn lane), in order to improve access to the many retailers. Here is the intersection of Gilmour Parkway with 22nd Avenue and Kaye Drive, looking south. Kaye Drive was temporarily closed as the curves on it will need to be realigned and widened as well. 22nd is regraded near the Rabin Drive intersection. The completed...

A proper update will be coming later this week, but in the meantime, to hold you over, and show that I'm still alive, here's a teaser pic. With 2 new transit-related mods. Construction will continue with Update 26--we'll be revisiting Wakeman. -Alex

Hi everyone- Back with a little update here. Yet another realignment project needed to allow the new Bob Dylan Freeway alignment through. The last update saw Caldera Lane getting a new overpass, and a temporary alignment of Highway 61 being built, to connect the new segment with a part of the old one which will eventually be removed. The last section that needs to be completed as part of realignment Phase I in Angstrom involves the area around Milpont and Gaffner Roads. Both are important arterials in the...

Well, as the title of this update indicates, we're back on the site of the Highway 61 realignment project, in South Argentum. It's also the last update with the old terrain mod. Here's the map again from Update 22, just for convenient reference (it hasn't changed any, though some of the stuff from this update was "preemptively" put on there.) Here's the old Highway 61/Argentum Boulevard interchange. Now you see it . . . . . . now you don't (and apparently, some errant motorists didn't believe that the...

I thought I'd change things up a little and show what downtown Argentum looks like, and show the first night shots I've ever shown in here, using Gizmo's fantastic new Day/Night mod. It's a rather unusual downtown (and indeed, the entire town layout is unusual), in that it's mostly low-rise, but there are a few buildings that are much taller, creating a sort of "monolith" effect. (For you CAM enthusiasts out there, there's two Stage 11 CAMeLots in there--in a city tile of 45,000.) I'll begin by showing a...

First things first. I promised sebes a new map. This map is actually "jumping ahead" on things a little bit. You'll see some features of the next update already in place here. The main focus of the update is marked, and secondary focus (which we'll begin with) should be fairly easy to find. (There's also a rather odd series of hidden references on some of the residential streets, too. ) Work is continuing on putting Highway 61 through, and in order to get through a rather steep hill at a reasonable grade,...

Map Tutorial

Hi everyone- I'm back with another update here. And to reveal the surprise . . . As hinted at in small print at the end of my last update, and as requested by many loyal readers, I'm devoting this update to showing how exactly I make these maps. And afterwards, we'll look at some new maps. I've learned a few things studying David and Emil's tutorials (dedgren and emilin, for those who didn't know), as well as getting some tips from Daniel (Shadow Assassin) and I kind of landed on somewhat of a hybrid of...

Hi everyone- I'm back again with another update here. As we saw the last full update, Grevano Drive was being torn up as part of a widening project. This is where we last left it: Here's the map of the tile again for reference: Here's more pics of the project site from Phase 2, between Cubit Lane and Ballast Drive: You can see in this pic that Cubit Lane is being widened at the Grevano Drive intersection as well. (Edit: Thanks, bat, for noticing the missing bracket. The pic is now fixed as of 10:50am PDT,...

Map Teaser

Hi everyone- Back for a quickie teaser here. Well, our contest winners, Kevin (BigSlark) and Lollo are now on the map . . . In the process of a couple of re-alignment projects that the City of Argentum undertook, two major arterials, Milpont Road and Redwood Way, became a bit disjointed, so in order to make things a bit more logical with the road names, the northern portion of Milpont Road (between Caldera Lane and Grevano Drive) will become Slark Way, while Redwood Way north of the Sebes Road intersection...

Hi everyone- Back with yet another update--first of the new year. Last time, we saw state DOT was building the Concord Avenue overpass for the new Highway 4/61 alignment, and beginning work on the Grevano Drive overpass. In order to help reference everything, I've included a map of the city tile this update takes place on. It's a bit outdated, but not too far gone. I'll have a more updated one here soon. In order to provide better access from the South Argentum/Angstrom area, the DOT has determined that...

Mmm . . . Bulldozers

Hi everyone- I'm back with more Tarkusian Cities, after over a one-month hiatus--precipitated first by college, then a broken elbow, and finally a new RHW version (which you'll get to play with shortly). Well, we're back to the vicinity of Argentum, in the southern suburb of Angstrom, where work is underway on the drastic (fantastic ) re-alignment of Highway 61, the major north-south corridor through the region which, here at this point, will be multiplexed with Highway 4, the major east-west route. You...
