Archive update--this was originally posted on May 18, 2010 as Update 61 in the SC4D edition of Tarkusian Cities. It has been included for the sake of completion, in a slightly edited form to fit the continuity of the ST edition. Hi everyone- Well, I'm back with another update--we'll be going back to Chemeketa and taking a look at the end of the 16th Avenue project. 15th Avenue NE/16th Avenue NE Couplet Project Last update, you may have noticed the 16th Avenue NE widening project hit a bit of a "dead end"...

Archive update--this was originally posted on April 30, 2010 as Update 60 in the SC4D edition of Tarkusian Cities. It has been included for the sake of completion, in a slightly edited form to fit the continuity of the ST edition. Hi everyone- Now, for what you've all been waiting for . . . more Tarkusian Cities. We'll be sticking around Chemeketa, where Public Works is going to be widening 16th Avenue NE. Bringing the map back over . . . Ashcroft Street NE and 5th Avenue NE Widening...

Archive update--this was originally posted on November 29, 2009 as Update 59 in the SC4D edition of Tarkusian Cities. It has been included for the sake of completion, in a slightly edited form to fit the continuity of the ST edition. Hi everyone- Well, I'm back with another installment of Tarkusian Cities . . . We'll be back in the same region/city I introduced in Update 58, which now sports a proper name: Chemeketa (pronounced cha-mech-it-ta). Chemeketa was actually the original name of Salem, Oregon when...

Archive update--this was originally posted on November 22, 2009 as Update 58 in the SC4D edition of Tarkusian Cities. It has been included for the sake of completion, in a slightly edited form to fit the continuity of the ST edition. Well, now it's time to reveal the start of my latest efforts. I've started a new region, and have partially built up two large tiles on it. I decided to try something a little new . . . my fellow NHPer Troy (blade2k5) has released a bunch of RL Oregon maps on the STEX...

Hi everyone- Back with another update already. We'll be taking a look at the first part of construction on the north-south arterial discussed in the previous update, that will connect between Main Street and Maridia Way. Seven Islands Parkway Project This project will build a new north-south route between the Main Street/Railroad Street couplet (Highway 231) and Maridia Way, providing another route between suburban North Lenox and the city center, in addition to providing a "grand entrance" to the Sealey...

Well, Tarkusian Cities is finally lurching slowly forward again, and we'll finally take a look at the City of Lenox's efforts to improve traffic flow in the North Lenox area we looked at two updates ago. Brinstar Road Project, Phase I The purpose of this project is to improve Brinstar Road between the Lenox River to just south of Hidden valley Road (Highway 231, former Highway 151). Brinstar is a major north-south arterial connecting many northeastern suburban neighborhoods and hi-tech parks to downtown...

Arboris

Hi everyone- Back with another update here at long last . . . this time we'll be taking a "detour" up to Lenox's northern "rival", Arboris for a larger update, while the City of Lenox gets their engineering plans in place for the North Lenox projects. Arboris is a city about 15 miles northwest of Lenox. The map below will illustrate downtown Arboris and its immediate vicinity. I've gotten around to naming most of the roads, but there are still a number of roads and features that need to be named . . . Now...

Hi everyone- Well, Tarkusian Cities is back again with another update finally. Going to take a little break from construction to ease back into things, by looking at some of the development that has gone in on the north side of Lenox. Here's a map of Lenox to date: North Lenox is is located in the northeast corner of the map, and is a relatively well-off area near the Lenox Woods Golf Course (at the corner of Brinstar Roaand Maridia). Maridia Way is also horribly congested, as you'll see in these pics....

Hi everyone- My apologies for the lack of updates lately--RL and modding has been taking most of my time lately, but Tarkusian Cities is still alive . . . Here's a look at things to come--an incomplete but nearly full map of the entire Los Endos region, which I've uploaded onto GmapUploader. There's still quite a few things that need labeling, but it should give you some idea. The big yellowish thing toward the top is the Hephaestus Crater, in case you're wondering. TDOT will commence construction shortly...

Hi everyone- And now for more construction: NE 57th Street Extension and Los Endos Blvd Bridge Replacement This project is designed to extend 57th Street beyond E Los Endos Blvd to provide better access to the Midland Hi-Tech area, as well as to connect to a future east-west arterial to be built north of Highway 60. The new roadway will consist of 5 lanes and be built to a 45mph design speed. It is a joint effort between TDOT and the City of Los Endos. In addition to this project, the City of Los Endos,...

Downtown Los Endos

Hi everyone- Tarkusian Cities still lives, and I'm finally back with a new update. This time, we'll be looking at a somewhat innovative TDOT/City of Los Endos project to aid traffic movement in Los Endos' rapidly growing downtown. First, I'll begin with a map--this is the area before construction and much of the development downtown. The main area that will get developed is shown in the clearly marked gray box. Here's an overview of downtown and vicinity before construction really gets going (facing...

Hi everyone- It's time for another installment of Tarkusian Cities . . . This update will examine the City of Los Endos' project to widen SE Los Endos Blvd between SE 71st Court in the Foothill area, up to the Broadvine area (which you'll see in a future update). This project will widen this entire section of Los Endos Blvd to 4 lanes in order to accommodate an anticipated significant increase in traffic volume resulting from new residential development in East Los Endos. This first image is of Los Endos...

Well, I'm back with the 50th "official" update (discounting teasers) . . . and I have a special treat for you all this time . . . . . . the first-ever Tarkusian Video. It's kind of a semi-aerial flyover of some of the roads in eastern Los Endos around the Tartan and Foothill areas. <a href=" target="_blank"> The map again, for convenience--see if you can figure out the route. Thank you all for your continued support . . . we're fast approaching two years of Tarkusian...

Squire

Well, I'm finally back with a new update. And here's a shocker . . . there's no construction this time. This update we'll be looking at the small town of Squire, which sits on the west side of the Bruford River Gorge, about 12 miles south of Wakeman. First of all, here's a map of the general vicinity. You'll notice 3 different highways run through the vicinity: Highway 283, which runs through downtown, Highway 89, which runs on the east side of the river, having crossed it just south of Wakeman, and...

Ardent Road/31st Street Interchange This project will replace the current at-grade intersection between Highway 94 (the Desert Lakes Highway) and NE 31st Street/NE Ardent Road in Los Endos, as part of the larger TDOT project to bring the highway up to Primary Route standards. 31st Street and Ardent Road are major arterials that lie about 2 miles east of Downtown Los Endos, and they provide access for much of the region to the Milvedo District, home to many Hi-Tech companies. The current at-grade...

Map Let's begin by looking at some of the Tartan Corridor Project. Here is SE 50th Street near Tartan High School, as the widening is underway. (facing north) Here it is widened, with a new traffic signal at Tartan Way, the main access road to the school, just north of the point at which 50th curves and truns into SE Gehrts Way. (facing north) Next, let's look at some of the work going on on SE Memo Road/57th Street. Here's a mess of temporary alignments built to allow construction crews room to build the...

This update will examine a few of the projects around eastern Los Endos, most of them undertaken by the city's public works department. Development near Los Endos Boulevard, at the section that was just widened in Update 44. (looking east) In order to accommodate further development in the Foothill area, the rest of Los Endos Boulevard will get widened as well. This is near SE 71st Court. (looking south) This here is Highway 94 about a mile east of the NE 65th Street Interchange from last time. That little...

Northeast 65th Street Interchange Improvement This project will construct a conventional diamond interchange along Highway 94 at Northeast 65th Street in Los Endos, in addition to making improvements to 65th Street between Highway 94 and Los Endos Boulevard. Highway 94, the Desert Lakes Highway, is a major east-west highway through the Los Endos area and is in the process of being upgraded to freeway standard, to help accommodate the massive population growth in the region. At the time of this project,...

CITY OF LOS ENDOS PUBLIC WORKS Los Endos Boulevard Widening Project--65th to Leonard This project will widen Los Endos Boulevard from 2 to 4 lanes between NE 65th Street and SE Leonard Lane in the Foothill area on the east side of the city. Foothill is one of the fastest growing areas in the Los Endos area and will soon be home to many new residential construction projects. Los Endos Boulevard, being the only east-west arterial in the area, aside from the Desert Lakes Highway (Highway 94), is expected to...

Last time, in my ".25" update, I showed a teaser of the new freeway encircling central Argentum, which TDOT is now calling Highway 340--"340" because it is a tertiary highway in Emerson County (the TDOT County Code for Emerson Co. is "34") and it runs primarily east-west. Well, this time, I'm going to delve a little deeper into Highway 340--at least the portion that runs through downtown Argentum. This first pic here is a historical curiosity in the history of Argentum, from about 18 months ago, back when...

In the meanwhile, a little something to tide you over . . . say hello to Argentum's new Beltway, Highway 340 (formerly marked on my maps as proposed Highway 261). This is at the new Isthmus Avenue interchange, looking west. -Alex (Tarkus)

Lenox--Highway 151/Sealey Way Intersection This project will realign and provide safety improvements to the intersection of Highway 151 (Azalea Avenue/Main Street/Railroad Street) with Sealey Way. This intersection is the busiest intersection in Lenox. Highway 151 is a former primary route, and the main arterial to the north and south of Downtown Lenox, providing a "business loop" off of the Highway 3 freeway. Azalea Avenue splits into the Main/Railroad One-Way Couplet just before reaching Sealey Way, a...

Lenox

Well, at any rate, I'd like to take a "detour" and introduce you to the City of Lenox (population ~32,000). Road map to the immediate vicinity: As you can see, Lenox and the surrounding valley has one of TDOT's primary highways, Highway 3, running through it. While it is a primary north-south route, it kind of tends more east-west through Lenox, and as it zig-zags through between some of the surrounding foothills. Overview, looking north: And no, you do not need to adjust your monitor. That really is green...

South Wakeman Corridor Project The purpose of this project is to construct a new limited-access freeway alignment on the south banks of the Cascadia River, running through the Cascadia Gorge, in order to better link up this area, including the City of Wakeman, to the surrounding parts of the region. The southern alignment was deemed to be a more cost-effective option, due to the fact the route would only have to cross the Bruford River, rather than a large stretch of both the Cascadia and Bruford Rivers at...

Wakeman

Here is Wakeman as we last left it, a few months ago, after the 22nd Avenue Extension project in May, as part of Update 28. And as the title confirms, we'll be going back and looking at the infamous "Mystery Highway" project (last seen Update 6), which had been proposed as a rather expensive freeway alignment of Highway 24 on the north side of town, involving about 5-6 miles of bridges over the Cascadia River. TDOT and the City of Wakeman have had a little bit of a change of plans, though. North Wakeman...
