Getting started

Hi and welcome to my Cj. Wanted to participate and contribute to this great community so i've decided to take the next step lately and just began my Highview region. There's still obviously a long way to go but ive made some progress recently in the natural areas and getting the town up and running and wanted to share the progress. Thanks again to all the great modders and builders who helped make all of this possible.

I'm working on the badlands area of the map, adding lots of lakes, waterfalls, rivers, and more.

Here's where i'm at with the region view right now, population 21,725 and growing fast.

What a wonderful start for a CJ. I am particularly fond of the waterfall and the villas on the cliff. Well done!

Very nice pics. I´m happy about every new cj. I like the scree slopes (or debris cones - don´t know the exact term in english) on the feet of your cliffs-- reminds me of my geographical/ geological studies many years ago. Did you mmp those or are they part of a rock mode?

It seems that you have great eye for a realistic, not griddy road layout in city and region view, just keep an eye on bumps, slopes and curves, this might bother you in the long run. At least that's how it was for me until I considered using slope mods and digged deeper into curve - drag patterns and flex pieces - compared to other long time players I´m still on the learning curve too.

Looking forward to the next chapter!

Thank you for the welcome @simmering happy you like the villas and waterfall *:)and thank you very much @simster007 for your comment! I tried to get away from the grid on the town so I'm glad you liked it! Appreciate the tips too.I've just been working with the NAM curves and I just found a good slope mod so i'll be using those to make it look even better*:D

Also the rocks I used on the scree slopes are MMPs I mainly used the ones from here:

Hello,

I've been playing SimCity games on and off for years—going all the way back to SimCity 1 and 2. Yep, I'm one of the old-timers. While Simtropolis was down, I downloaded SimCity 4 and managed to find a few of the tools that this fantastic site has provided. I’ve spent some time tinkering with them, building little cities that—if I’m honest—are kind of disasters. Lots of pollution, some crime, and a handful of cool buildings thanks to your resources. But the truth is, I have no real idea what I’m doing, and my experiments have resulted in a lot more misses than hits.

Now that the site is back up, I’m hoping I can wipe the slate clean, clear out all the junk, and finally build a city I can be proud of—something more cohesive than the six neighboring cities I currently have, none of which really interact and together only total about 130,000 people. What I really want is to create a true metro area, complete with industrial, commercial, residential, airport, tourist, and seaport districts. (You might have guessed—I used to work in city government, and I loved every minute of it.)

If you’ll have me, I’d be grateful for guidance on how to get started with a fresh region, and how to use (or even find) the incredible tools this community offers. I noticed the donation disks when I logged in and I’m interested in contributing, too. Right now, though, I honestly have no idea what I’ve downloaded, how to run it, or what any of it really does.

Thank you for any help you can offer. I’m eager to learn—I just need a little direction.

Thanks again for considering my application.

Rick

@LawrPhil Hiya! And welcome to Simtropolis. *:)

Your post would really go much better as a new topic in this forum. Click the pink button there to Start a New Topic, then copy in all of your post from above. Once done, I'll delete it from this City Journal. *;)

(I would move it myself, but the board software doesn't have an option for going from a CJ reply to a regular forum post.)

Yeah, we've had to require a new member's first post to be approved by staff. Sorry about that, but it does prevent spam from ever showing up since we don't approve it.

I see your new topic. Thanks.
