Mexico
Mexico is a country of 126 million in the southern portion of North America. It is bordered to the north by the United States; to the south and west by the Pacific Ocean; to the southeast by Guatemala, Belize, and the Caribbean Sea; and to the east by the Gulf of Mexico. The third largest country in Latin America, Mexico is a chief economic power in the region. It has a dynamic industrial base, vast mineral resources, a wide-ranging service sector, and the world’s largest population of Spanish speakers—about two and a half times that of Spain or Colombia. As its official name suggests, the Estados Unidos Mexicanos (United Mexican States) incorporates 31 socially and physically diverse states and the Federal District. Over the decades, Mexico has also developed into a popular tourist destination as well, as more and more people are exploring what the country has to offer - beautiful seaside resort destinations, historic cities, ancient ruins, beautiful natural wonders, and much more. Let's see what this iconic country has to offer in today's update.
Our journey through Mexico begins along the country's western Pacific shoreline, which is where you'll find one of Mexico's most iconic cities - Acapulco. This beach resort town is located on a deep, semicircular bay, which has made it both a popular destination for tourism, cliff diving, and fishing.
We travel west along Mexico's Pacific coastline, stopping in another one of the country's most popular tourist destinations, Puerto Vallarta. It's not hard to see why it's so popular, with its beautiful beaches, stunning shoreline, and resorts all around.
After exploring some of Mexico's most popular seaside cities, we travel into the country's interior to get a look at the heart of Mexico. Guadalajara is one of the country's most beautiful cities and its old town is home to plenty of historic, colonial architecture.
Much of north-central Mexico is a barren, sandy, rocky landscape - and in the summertime, temperatures here can be unbearable. It's also home to a number of vast deserts, such as the Chihuahua Desert - here we see a typical scene with plenty of cacti in view.
Our trip takes us through another one of Mexico's largest cities - Monterey. This regional hub of finance and commerce is home to many impressive skyscrapers and apartment buildings on the edge of a mountain range, making for an impressive sight.
Our trip through Mexico takes us further east, into the famed Yucutan Peninsula, an area of the country filled with beautiful and mysterious sights. Ancient cenotes - or sinkholes - filled with pristine turquoise water can be seen all around, and it's said that many of them were formed from an ancient meteorite impact.
The Yucutan Peninsula is home to some of Mexico's most amazing wonders - in addition to its natural gems, the man-made landmarks are just as incredible. Ruins from the days of the ancient Mayan empire can be seen all around - and the iconic ruins of Tulum along the country's Caribbean coastline are one of Mexico's most popular destinations.
The final leg of our journey starts in Mexico's sprawling capital city of Mexico City. This massive metropolis of over 20 million is one of the world's largest cities, and its urban sprawl is incredible from the sky.
A closer look at downtown Mexico City with a number of the city's most iconic landmarks in view, such as the Metropolitan Cathedral and Torre Latinoamericana.
We now move into the city's bustling center - and in the heart of Mexico City's Zocalo Square is the massive Metropolitan Cathedral. Since 1803, this iconic landmark has become well known for being the seat of the Catholic Archdiocese of Mexico.
Our trip comes to a close with a look over one of Mexico's most remarkable natural wonders, Popocatépetl. This massive, 17,802 foot active stratovolcano towers over the country's capital city and can be seen for miles around. Since 2004, it's been consistently spewing steam and ash - making for an imposing sight.
