Entry 1 - The Vast Desert

Under the desert sun and endless dusty wastes, thin ribbons of civilization begin to cut through the sand and a beacon of humanity begins to rise.

The sandy hills give way to little more than dust and the occasional cactus as vehicles cling to the narrow highways.

Two thousand feet to the bottom. (This is a testament to the incredible power of the move-it mod.)

Even the desert isn't immune to the grip of industry.

This looks lovely. Loving that interchange and that bridge is pretty damn epic!

Really interested to see how you take this and build a city here as, as you've mentioned it isn't exactly city friendly lol.

Cheers

Surprised this hasn't gotten more comments - that's one of the coolest bridges I've ever seen in any city building game. Nice work :thumb:

Thank You. I am learning really fast about my limitations on this map. The Crystal Canyon which cuts through the map is a true natural barrier, and skylines is treating it as such. It's impossible to build anything across it without using the move it mod. As of right now, power lines and water lines are out of the question for crossing the canyon. And the canyon depth is well below the maximum allowed by the game for building bridges. Additionally, most of the bridge props on stream available also have limits, because they raise the terrain under them after a certain depth.

In order to build the bridge, I had to construct it completely on flat land and use the move it mod to position it over the canyon, along with having to find a suitable spot on the canyon where the bridge props wouldn't raise the canyon floor and block the river. As Crystal Junction develops, each side of the canyon will have a large degree of independence from the each other, as only a very small handful of bridges will be crossing the canyon, but as the population grows, so shall the number of highway lanes crossing.

Thank You. The bridges crossing the canyon are going to be one of the primary focal points of the future city. I am a bit surprised as well by the lack of comments, but then again simtropolis is still really an SC4 site. Skylines is still a very young city building game compared to SC4 and just now starting to become more popular among the city building community, might be a reason for the lack of comments. (No offense intended towards SC4, its an awesome game). Additionally, I haven't really made a major post yet to this journal. So far all of the posts are primarily just teases of things to come, so I am hopeful the comments will pick up as I make future posts, especially since i have a lot of unique construction plans for this city that will really make it stand out.

Why a very noice desert,i love it!

Thank You. The desert is going to be the dominating theme of the city, since the arid nature of the map will have a direct impact on how the city develops. I kind of wish that sandstorms were a disaster in the ND update, as sandstorms would just complete this map perfectly.
