Franzikoi: Vaunmax

The Franzikoi District occupies the northeastern shoreline of the Tenne Sea and the northwestern piedmont of the Devonian Mountains. It is pretty empty as districts go. Only recently the first town was built; the district capital of Vaunmax. The town is a transit connection, serving Tenne Sea maritime traffic and connecting it with a rail line extending across the mountains all the way to New Arlenes on the eastern coast. This multimodal transit hub is the first direct connection of the inner coast with the outer coast. No doubt this will lead to plenty of prosperity.

The compact town is comprised of midrise buildings, many of which are brick, stone or stucco. There’s some timber frame construction as well, but the construction is sturdy to withstand the cold winters with moderate snowfall.

The town is surrounded on three sides by thick deciduous hardwood forests

The rail line to the east coast is the raison d’être for the city

The tall building near the rail and ferry terminals is the Franzikoi District Administration Building. It’s a bit different for a tall building in Schulmania, especially in a smaller town. Theoden of Rohan is the district governor and he wanted to consolidate all government offices into a single structure to improve efficiency. Plus, he likes the view from the top floor offices.

It makes for some great leaf viewing in the fall… if you’re into that kind of thing…

The district government’s building towers over the town. If they put a big light on top it would double as a lighthouse.

The rail terminal doesn’t look too busy, but it is beginning to carry an increasing amount of transcoastal cargo

Bell Hall is the fashionable shopping area in town. It got its name from the big bell in the entrance hall. It rings on the hour and has some cool animatronic characters who do stuff. It’s a great sight.

The main road, which loops around from the ferry terminal, is Carter’s Ferry Road. It is named for the family which built the town. There were five kittens in the litter – all became city designers and builders. There were Josh, Jacob, Jackson, Jimmy and Josie. Josie is the most famous…

Josie is a cat of many talents…

The ferry terminal receives some 2500 passengers daily plus an ever increasing amount of cargo
