..last time our journey ended at the Gammle River - pedestrian bridge. The bridge was donated by the "Office du Tourisme - Rondnoir" and connects the trails around Gassian.

The modern look of the bridge is still controversial.

As mentioned Gassian is located in the natural floodplain of the Gammle River. The exposed position made life long arduous.

First primitive drainage canals and retaining walls were built in the first years of Gassian. The canals have been constantly improved and expanded over the centuries.


Constructed by Jacques Brunel's Plans(1886)..


....and renovated in 1979.

The first railway line was opened in 1957. Today an important link for the local industry..


"Col de la Madeleine," the highest point of Rondnoir (213m above sea level. NN).
On the peak stands the Pyla-tower...

...an old weather station, which was in operation until 1993..

The tower was built in the 60s and is named after the famous meteorologists Henry Pyla ..today you will find here a popular tourist spot...

...you can visit the tower and enjoy the magnificent view of the Eyre Valley and Gassian.

Accessible only through a narrow serpentine through the vineyards..

The tower of Gassian was built in ~ 1705.(Today there is a small wine festival).

The watchtower for the valley village Gassian and Mariae.

Located near the mouth of the Gammle River, the tower offers a spectacular view of the Gammle and the Eyre Valley.
