Hello!  In this thread you'll see BATs by me (ussualy 1920's american buildings).  I'll use this thread to show what I've been upto and to ask for opinions and help on things.

preview.jpg

This will be a 2x1 co$$ (or maybe cs$$).  the building itself is 1 tile wide and about 1 3/4 tile long.

it's almost done and so far i'm happy with it 16.gif.

(edit: I think I fixed the picture)

edit 3/19:  The textures of the windows of this building where changed before I did the final render of it a while back.  The windows now look like the windows I've been making more recently (good windows, instead of blue).

Here's the other side of the one building, the other two are old buildings i've made.  The big tan one is a school.  I've been planning on going back to them, improving them, and then re-rendering them.

Okay. What are you waiting for ? We're waiting.

I like the big school although at first glance I didn't figure it for a school. Looked more like a government administration building to me. Maybe it's the old DMV building or the old Courthouse or the old City Hall. Just kind of looks like something like that to me. Very nice though. Be nice to have as a prop (which I wish more BATters would do), then people could make their own lots and decide what it really looks like to them. I think the BATters might be pleasantly surprised at some of the things people will do with their buildings. Anyway ... just an idea.

Oh yeah, and the tall brick building looks like an apartment building to me. Sorry. It's a good looking building. I like it. Just that's what it looks like to me.

P.S. If I had any talent, I'd be BATting too.

Believe in only what you can prove.

Wow, your buildings look really good. I love the big one! So much detail and the rounded brick edges are totally cool! Never seen that before. And I think the school goes as a school, not common look but why not something different 44.gif

    Thanks everyone!9.gif

I've noticed that most of the bats on the stex only come with one lot.  I think I'll make a few different versions of the lot, like a 1x2, 2x2, 2x3, 2x4, 1x3, 1x4 (for the growables).  I'll add in a few residental lots too (I'm not sure how that would work for the stex' categories, upload it twice?), and the prop 1.gif.  I'll make sure to include some kind of an easy guide somehow so that people can easily pick which lots they want in there.

I think next I'll make a high capacity hospital in the chicago and new york styles, I haven't seen any bats of those yet.

I'll be going out of town over the weekend, so hopefuly I'll be able to start releasing things on monday or tuesday.  First the smallest building (becuase it's already done and rendered, I can't think of anything worth changing about it).  Then the others as I finish them.

for some reason the pictures aren't working for me, but it looks like they are for other people.  my avatar is also not showing up and that ussualy dose, so I'm not sure whats happenning.

Thanks everyone (and thanks for fixing the threads title, I noticed my mistake as soon as I posted it and I couldn't figure out how to fix it, lol).  I got back today.

Poirer's Pictures (the small peach building) is almost set to go.  It was designed to fit in with those other peach-tan buildings that get repetetive.  It should be up tonight, unless something goes wrong or I get confused with how to upload it 1.gif .  The building is a photography studio with a cafe on the bottom floor.

I'm not sure why the pictures aren't working, sorry.  if you right click on it, find the url and copy and paste it into a new window it might show up.

These are some great and detailed buildings. They'll definitely add a bit more to the American genre. Great work!

after I'm done doing this building I'll get an account at image shack (or one of those) and edit my posts so that the pictures work, becuase it dosen't look like they are working again... lol

but guess what, I had everything ready to get archived into a zip and stuff, and it turns out that the description file is corrupt (at least it wasn't the model).  so I deleted it,  I figured that I'd remake the file, and then change the lots to fit the new file, but it dosen't look like I can do that with the lot editor.  So I guess I'll be remaking all the lots...  27.gif but I think I'll still be able to upload it tonight.

edit: I had made a copy before it got corrupted! 9.gif but the stex says that it's currently making a transition.  This is my first upload, so hopefuly it will go smoothly.

edit 3/7: I'm exporting a draft version of the big brick building to see if it fits the lots it's supposed to.  It will probably be called The Poirer Building which I suppose will be the main offices of the smaller building.  The title dosen't suggest whether it is commercial or residental so it will work for both.

edit 3/9:  The Poirer Building (big brick buiing) hass been sucessfully rendered.  Growable lots have been made, but they aren't growing in my city...

This is my next building (I've decided not to go back and redo the school for now).  yep, it's going to fit next to a diagonal road.  So far only the wall is done, and some of the edgeings.  It'll be white, exept for the fancy detialings which will be a brownish grey.  I'm hoping that this will end up being very detialed by the end, between actual modeling and texture work.

These buildings are really good! I especially like the Poirer Building. The textures are some of the best I have seen.

    Keep up the good work!!

thanks everyone.  I'm still waiting for the poirer building to grow, and it dosen't seem like it's going to, but I'll remake all the lots and stuff and see if it grows after that.

The new building is coming along, I added more facade detail to it.  It's going to be either white, or grey, maybe a little brownish too.  since it's a wall to wall building, and a plopable, I figured that I could just have the facade be fancy and have the rest be plain birck with only a few windows.  The only problem is that I'm not sure how people will use the building.  if the road that it's plopped in is 45 degrees, then one of the street facades will just be brick.  so depending on how it's plopped, one ugly side might be visible.  Any comments would be ultra helpful, since I'm not sure how everyone would be using this building.

I've decided to stop working on the diagonal building untill I have a large chunk of time to work on it.  so in the smaller chunks of time untill then I've made a quick building.  I used the same window frames/setup as my most recent buildings.  I plan on making a few models, like a water tower, rain gutters and pipes, roof junk and that sort of thing.  then I'll have all those things around and I'll be able to shove sme of them onto future buildings.  Someday I'll eventualy render and upload my buildings to the stex 9.gif.

    newfjgjkhgj0wo.th.jpg

this is a wall to wall building.

edit:  the windows I made for this building are too big for this kind of building (2x4 meters, lol).  I might add another wall to wall building next to it so the bat fills 2 tiles after I'm done scaling this one down.  I'm not sure what it's going to look like...

    edit: 3/18/05

I rescaled the building to fix the windows, and then I cloned the front wall, moved it across, and then attached the two clones together to make the front wall wider.  I started on the texturing, and some stuff on the entrance.  this will probably be a CS$$ building, since it's supposed to be a department store.  any suggestions?

    ooo, replies 9.gif.

The building in the latest picture has been worked on a little bit.  It's about 5 stories taller (can't remember the number off the top of my head).  The front has been duplicated and put on the side next to it, so now it's like a corner building.  I've been working on the back, but I've had problems with gmax crashing 22.gif.

I'll probably be a part of NDEX soon, and I'm saving my buildings for that so that they can get a proper treatment.

I've been working here and there on that diagonal building.  I've added a few more details, and I've made the columns on the top less huge.  After the current building is done I'll either work on this some more, or I'll start building a few different detroit styled houses.

It's funny, the day I stop checking back on this thread for replies I get a few 1.gif.  It's good to hear 'em.

    edit: 1 hour later

ok, this is where that building stands.  the texture got streched since I haven't modified it from the orgional to fit the new building.  But I was wondering if y'all prefer the stone to be higher on the front, or lower on the front.  The building on the left is the photoshoped building that i used to see about how tall it should be, but it has the normal stone height.  the second is the actual bat preview, with the stone higher (however, no matter what the stone on the columns will be slightly higher than on the wall, like the origonal).

I think that when I edit my previous post with an update people don't know that I updated.  Heres a new pic of the newly created back.  ignore all the stone on the walls, it's all going to be brick when I give it's real texture.  there's going to be a truck door, with yellow bar things.  a somewhat fancy backdoor, with red awening, and a planter with bushes to block it off from the nastyness.  There's also a dumpster.  there's also a water tower.  and ontop of the building it is either the boiler room, or some kind of storage area.  either way there will be some roof junk.  the other side of the building is done, everythig has been fitted together.  This department store is almost done!

i've been working on the details outlined in my previous post.  next I need to make a dumpster, some boxes, and some bushes and the back will be done.  I'll also be fixing the wall texture so that it doesn't repeat so obviously.  then I'll be making a water tower, then the rooftop boiler room and it'll pretty much be done!

    simsomething28ho.jpg

thanks for all the coments everyone!

    edit: later today
I made the water tower, I'll shove the model onto the stex sometime.  I also finished the dumpster, I might put that on there too.  next I need to make a few boxes for around the dumpster, and then some roof junk and a nicer looking boiler room and viola, it's done.

    simsomething30am.jpg

did the water tower and the dumpster.  next i'll do the crates.  I think the roof needs to be cleaner looking and brighter.  Also, the boiler room is still ugly.  I'll redo the trim, or maybe give it a different kind of roof (instead of a flat roof).
