New university problems..

Okay, i remembered that it used to be really easy to get a university back in SC4, but now that i have RH, getting the university to stay seems so much harder for some reason. I usually get the university when i don't need it (did they really have to make it so damn expensive?) and then when i actually have the money to build it, it's not there in the menu anymore..(as in it's greyed out)]

I've got more than enough population, my mayor rating is like 75-ish and my education bar is full.. what else could i be missing?

Make sure all of your schools have the best rating, by having more capacity than students. The private schools tend to be a problem here, since you can't increase their capacity when they become flooded.

If that doesn't work, try the Organs for profit mission. It's a hospital helicopter mission. You need 50+ tiles of industry to do it, as well as the big hospital. You'll be able to build the university as a reward.

Don't worry about the University the college will do the same thing and it takes up less space.Also check STEX for some cool BSC education lots.

The issue probably has more to do with a low mayor rating, rather than a low EQ rating. Raise both, and you'll get the university.

It's been a while since the last reply on this topic , but i just can't get this University to be available.

* It can't be a low mayor-rating as Bones1 mentioned above , it's maxed out in my case.

* With a total population of 226.000 there's way enough residential population.( 15.000 required )

* Education level is maxed out as well as you can see.( City School Grade of 95 ? )

I could try the "Organs For Profit" mission as bobucles mentioned ...IF !! it was available.

Only helicopter missions available are the cop missions.( even though i do have 6 large Hospitals )

Guess i have to stick with City Colleges then.

I assume the "city school grade" has to do with your elementary and high school funding. Do your schools have more students than capacity?

I allways have an overcapacity ( slightly of course ).

Whenever my city population grows , i check all buildings and adjust accordingly.

Whether it be City Colleges / Libraries / Hospitals / Elementary Schools ....etc. etc. etc.

So ...nope , that won't cause it.Funny thing is though ( by now ) : whenever it does become available for whatever reason , i don't have any room left to build it unless i start demolishing a city block.Thnx for your reply ,

persopnelly I almost never use the original Maxis university...it's large and creates pollution and crime well above what i belive should be the stats of an educational building (the frat parties aren't all that bad)

not sure why Maxis add some of the stats to certain buildings (eg the diseace centre and advanced research centres. airports  too) have nimbly stats that I really don't agree with...so when using such buildings I generally use ones off the STEX that have been modded to more of my liking

requirement for the university requires a min of 42+ in mayor rating to appear in the menus 

certain population...around 15-20K and a EQ value of 95+ could be it your using  a mod affecting you getting the reward  ? 

and when in doubt I just use the "you don't deserve it" cheat code to place any reward building I like to place when I feel it look good in a certain spot, but that just me...

I do use some mods , but not all that much.No idea if any of these might cause the university not to appear in the menu.

Mods i use :

* CSX Slopemod

* Holedigging Lots v2

* Industry Quadruppler

Next to this i use 2 "cosmetic features" ? ( can't find the words in English ) :

* JRJ Concrete Walls v2

* Goldiva Beach Set

That's it.I'll check STEX for an alternative to the University.

Wow. I have never had this problem. I always end up getting the university LONG before I need it or can pay for it, let alone have somewhere to put it. But I have noticed with many rewards that if you get the reward, but don't place it, then save the game and exit... when you come back, they are not always there anymore, and never come back. I've had this happen with Mayor's houses and statues, so maybe it happens with the university too.

You might be right about dissapearing rewards after saving / exiting the game.I don't actually remember having experienced this in my game , however i do remember being offered a small statue ( which i didn't place right away).Then after a while i was offered a large statue.I didn't place it right away also , but when i did after some time the first thing i thought when i opened the menu was : "Hey , where did the small statue go ?!!" Then i thought that since it's a bigger statue it probably replaces the smaller one.So be it.

I save regularly so this might very well have happened to the University as well.

You might be right about having the University been offered to me.However , i didn't turn it down.I just accept the rewards in general , then don't pay it any attention straight away and get back to it whenever i feel like / need placing it.This goes for the Mayors House / Private Schools / Disease Center ...etc. etc. etc.

I never noticed the University not being in the menu untill i wanted to build it.So i thought it has never even been in the menu.( even though i did accept it )

Then again : is the University only !! available as a reward ? ... and not as a "normal" part of your educational system ?

Anyways , this "bug" also rules out the Advanced Research Center and the Space Port for me since the University is a prerequisit.

As far as I know except by using "cheats" the university is never available unless you achieve the proper conditions or finish the udriveit mission.. what puzzles me is that if I accept it, but don't build it, I'm usually offered it many more times even tho its in my menu.. (as long as I don't place it) I admit tho that this is not somethign I usually worry over so I may just be forgeting what normally happens..

Something I've noticed...if the pop up guys appears and asks if you want the university (or whatever he happens to be offering) just close the pop up box...DO NOT DECLINE the offer. I've seen the reward go away, especially with power plants if I decline, but if I just close the window, when I want the reward, it's still on the menu. You might want to try this and see if it works for you.

What you experienced is a well-known bug. I've read about it very often at www.simforum.de. It appears that the university is disabled once you have gone beyond a certain EQ threshold without it. The only way to get it in that case is by either cheating, using a UDI mission or by artificially lowering your EQ (e.g. by bulldozing residential areas and causing new, stupid sims to move in).

I've never had this problem personally, probably because I build my cities slowly. This way, I have plenty of time to plop the university before education levels get too high.

@ Tolomar: Yeah, I know what you mean. I hate that bug which causes crime on large lots to rise beyond any acceptable levels. Be it airport or country club, you always get criume problems... the same goes for extensive beaches: How are you supposed to build a nice beachfront when every second building needs to be a police department to get the crime levels at least to medium? Another issue is large high-tech industrial lots. High-tech industry is extremely crime-sensitive, and large lots can attract so much crime that they basically drive themselves out. Sorry everybody, that was somewhat OT...

hmm, if you have 6 large hospitals and you say you dont have helcoptermissions, the i think it is a problem with the savegame: if you open a SC4 savegame (without RH) in SC4 RH, then you dont have those missions, you have to rebuilt one of it and then they will become availeble (i still dont know how to write that word) so try that first

i almost never use the university, i find that the benefits are far outweighed by the disadvantages--space, crime, pollution, and plus, city colleges do all that a university does, so why bother?

I will say this for the university as envisioned by MAXIS.. I've never seen a university in RL that did not have its own police force... I usually simulate this with an ADDED police kiosk.. this prevents the "crime problem" tho I can sympathize with Tolomar's point..

Would be cool if someone had a "university in parts" like the amusement park mods.. (there may be one AFAIK.. haven't looked) that had a police station integrated.. kind of like the SWAP airport pack..
