    Hi Hal,

I must say that David pushed me into superdetailling with flora, it adds so much to a setup it's really incredible.

Do give it a try, you won't be disappointed!

    Regards

    -John

    soboluuavruuavatarby5.jpg

    Hi Nathan,

The Sobol Clinic is only a small token of appreciation for your continuous support, as it is only a photoshop trick some pictures of that area may not show the name on the facade as it is not BATTED in... but the name will remain in AVR records, it IS the Sobol CLinic.

Thanks for the cigar, mucho appreciado, a good cigar, a good scotch, listening to B.B. King.... ahhhhhh! Life's good!

P.S. I must say your office looks a lot less cluttered than mine!

    Take care

    -John

    alafeluuavruuavataren0.jpg

    Hi Alafel,

The school's always scouting for new talents, send your resume and I'm sure the principal will look into it! ;-)

You certainly deserve the citizenship, being a regular supporter and poster. I think a lot of readers do not realize how important it is for a CJ'er to have support, if not there's no point in making a CJ.

Anyhow, all this to say your comments are always welcome and appreciated.

The flora can add so much it's simply incredible! All it take is a little patience and you can't go wrong...

As for the avatars thing, I was just doodling, not sure how it'll turn out... still working on it, trying to create something nice and easy to use.

    See you!

    -John

    livininsimuuavruuavatarpv9.jpg

    Hey Liv,

Listening to that unforgettable classic piece, I think you really deserve the "Disk Jockey extraordinaire" title.

You really have the knack of finding the piece that fits perfectly with the mood!

Just downloaded the telephone poles, can't wait to try them! Problem is, I didn't play the game for at least 3 weeks now, simply don't have the free time... so much work, and I won't have a minute this weekend, I'll be working saturday AND sunday...  boy this will be a looooong week!

The house you showed, is exactly the kind of lot I like, nothing fancy, down to earth, and something we can all relate to. It's why I really like jbsimio and spa lots, they are small and lifelike.

We also have lot's of bike trails here, some are fancy looking (lot's of tourists on those) and others that are more family oriented and well integrated into their natural environment. We have one just 20 minutes from here that is 16 kilometers in length that roughly follows a river, sometimes you're in the forest, sometimes alongside the river with rapids and all, nice places to stop and picnic... great place! I really like it.

The small house I don't like you asked... well... I don't know... it just look...strange in want of a better word to describe it, it just look as if it doesn't fit with any style I know kind of an akward looking lot, but hey, it's just a personal preference.

The high school you described fits exactly the one I went to, down to the clanging pipes! And you know what, I bet the kids who went to those new schools that are clean looking, built in concrete, sanitized, well thought (yeah right), won't have that many memories about their alma mater, those new buildings are so bland... it is to cry! I remember vividly the old creaking stairs, the windows that we could actually OPEN to let the fresh air in, the loooong corridors that seemed double their length when we arrived late for class and have to walk fast to avoid getting caught by the principal... hehehe... Not that I did... well... hummm.... let's talk about something else shall we? (Thanks for bringing back those memories)

The SOBOL clinic, is GooberGen Urgent Care https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=14798 I've downloaded it some weeks ago, don't remember exactly...

I'm not taking any chances with snow this winter, I've hired a company to do most of the work, I'll do the detailling, but at least it gives you the peace of mind knowing that you won't have to shovel at 5 in the morning to get to work!

    Bye, and take care

    -John and Nancy

    janypeuuavruuavatardk4.jpg

Thanks Jan, good to see you again.

    -John

    jackyuuavruuavatarrf3.jpg

    Hi Jacky,

I'm fine, yep lot's of water, and I'm trying to emulate your cove making, keyword being "trying", I'm still new at detailling shores, but I'll get there eventually.

Hoping the weather's not so harsh on your side of the pond!

    Take care

    -John

    jawzzuuavruuavatariy4.jpg

    Hi Jawzz,

You are a patient person to go through all those pages, unfortunately some of the pages are damaged and are missing some pictures and/or text.... oh well... I guess that there's still enough material left to give a good idea of what's been done over those years.

Hat's off to you for your tenacity!

    -John

    anarchy0029uuavruuavatauj7.jpg

    Hi anarchy,

    Thanks man!

    philscafeuuavruuavatarvv8.jpg

    Hey Phil,

To tell you the truth, there's no chocolate I don't like, except the white chocolate, the white one I don't like at all...

I was looking for good name for the school, and I recalled your CJ's name thinking it would do nicely! So in the end it's me who have to thank you for the name...

I know what you mean, I've pondered the idea of doing a different CJ for Bywater, an finally decided to place it within AVR, waiting to collaborate in 3RR. Later on if I create other cities, I'll probably go the other way, that is to create a new CJ for each city. Looks like smaller CJ's are easier to maintain...

    Have a great week

    -John

    daviduuavruuavatarvx1.jpg

    David,

Thanks, I think I'll continue to experiment on the Mail call presentation, just for the sake of creating something different and as you say "easy on the eye..."

I totally agree on Liv's talent to find the right mood! No surprise she's the radio mogul in AVR!

You're also right about giving credit to Chris for the flora, he really revolutionize flora in SC4!

Always great to read you my friend

    My best to Heather

Bonjour John! Well, it's kinda hard to let go something one had been working on for ages, isn't it? As for your update, that Marina is a great addition. It reminds me a little bit of some places on Champlain Lake... not that I've ever been there, but what I know from pictures. Also great detailing along the shoreline once again, I like the cycleways a lot.

I like Saturdays... it's my day off (well, despite of doing the laundry...) and I can take a look at a new Bywater update each time 4.gif.

    See ya!

    in the mornin' sun

I'll be sittin' when the evenin' come

    Watching the ships roll in

And then I watch 'em roll away again, yeah

I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay

    Watching the tide roll away

Ooo, I'm just sittin' on the dock of the bay

    Wastin' time

I left my home in Georgia

    Headed for the 'Frisco bay

'Cause I've had nothing to live for

And look like nothin's gonna come my way

So I'm just gonna sit on the dock of the bay

    Watching the tide roll away

Ooo, I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay

    Wastin' time

    Look like nothing's gonna change

    Everything still remains the same

I can't do what ten people tell me to do

So I guess I'll remain the same, yes

    Sittin' here resting my bones

And this loneliness won't leave me alone

It's two thousand miles I roamed

Just to make this dock my home

Now, I'm just gonna sit at the dock of the bay

    Watching the tide roll away

Oooo-wee, sittin' on the dock of the bay

    Wastin' time...

That's the last unfinished song of Rhythm and Blues godfather Otis Redding.  It was recorded just days before the plane on which he and his band mates were traveling home after a concert went down.  Otis, you have our respect.  You're listening to KLIV FM, half past the hour of 1AM on a Thursday morning.  In latest news, sherrif's deputies arrived on school grounds Monday to arrest a 13 year old Florida boy for disrupting his classroom by passing gas.  School officials alleged that he had intentionally broken wind and also shut off other students' computers.  The boy was released to the custody of his mother.  Can you imagine the conversation on the way home?  "Just wait til your father gets home...he is going to be so proud of you..."

John, I was wondering what you would use on the little penisulas; nice work with the dock and boat ramp.  It is surprisingly hard to reclaim land from water.  I have found that Peg has made his marina/beach items versatile enough to look natural in small or more populated areas.  Taking out  the warehouse type building and replacing it with the picnic area gave it a more recreational feel.  It looks like the bikepath is heading off to meander along the shoreline.  I think the low wealth version of Shadow Assasin's bike paths looks more natural, although I was using the other version for quite some time.  LOL, I too, just moved a diagonal road when those triangles happened, and it was way longer than that.  Fences were the cause.  20.gif

Oh, yes, the bungalow--it's a hearty grower.  Ya know, it's not the most attractive, but I have seen similar real houses.  It's almost as though the contractor started on one style, then showed up one morning at midpoint with a whole different set of plans.  And a person with split personality moved in.  3.gif

Thanks for the link, I will have to see if I have that little clinic.

We have had fair weather lately, a good chance for people to put up their Christmas lights.  It would be reasurring to think of the snow movers.  I am fortunate.  In all but the worst of circumstances, my neighbor and dear friend of 30 years shows up for clearing duties with his lawn tractor blade.  He did manage to locate a skidder this last time, but I had shoveled the driveway by then.  It was almost worth it to see his eyes widen a bit to hear my answer to his question, "Did you move all that snow?"  5.gif

    Don't work too hard.

    Bye for now.

Its always great to see what you've got going on, John.  That's a very liberal use of road curves, and I think the extra funds spent on extending the path was worth it.  The end result looks very nice.

    Take care,

This region and city tile looks as fantastic as ever, you put more detail into your cities than I do (strangely enough). Keep it up, and good luck with the FARR.

    Hello John,

Sorry I've missed a few updates, but I can really tell that Bywater is coming along quite nicely. 4.gif A great trio of updates on the previous page; I really liked the custom high school with all of those sports fields/courts and the commercial strip behind it. It's always nice when zones grow the perfect set of buildings, isn't it? Well, that's the benefit of having a variety of custom content! 2.gif Great job on the marina, too. I dislike those jagged edges as well... but most times I will just leave 'em there since whatever is causing that problem looks too good to be changed. 3.gif Your method works like a charm. 9.gif

    See you later!

I'm playing around with a couple of ideas, John, that might do away with those dratted "countryside" road sidewalks forever. I'll send you an alpha to check out shortly.

Your use of the wide curves is all the more magnificent because it is so simple and straightforward. The little rocky inlet is very cool as well. I'm really missing Chris (Chrisadams3997) right now- hope he's back around at Christmastime.

Liv, you nailed it yet again.

    Far away across the field

The tolling of the iron bell

Calls the faithful to their knees

To hear the softly spoken magic spells.quote>

    Gorgeous PF imagery.

My (US) Thanksgiving best to you and yours.

    David

Thanks for the support man, really appreciated!

Hi Phil, well, sooner or later I'll have to let go...

I thought this would really be a good place for a marina, though I was torn between leaving the town as is, or try to include some nice "tourist traps" in it... but I'll try to keep a relax look to the town anyway I don't want it to turn out like a rich people amusement park.

I also like saturdays, though last saturday was really hectic, worked from 15:00 (3.00PM) to sunday 3:00 AM... luckily it's not always like this!

Bye for now, I'll leave you to your laundry! hehehe

    Take care my friend!

    -John

    soboluuavruuavatarby5.jpg

    Hey Nathan,

    Any snow yet?

We had some, but rain has settled in for a couple of days now.... (blehhh!)

    See you!

    Take care

Sittin' on the dock o' the bay....

What a great song, I seriously believe that music is THE common language on earth...

Seriously, this is one GREAT classic, simple, but oh so true, lyrics that everyone can relate to...

Really liked the, hummmm, "natural gas" sidebar.... hehehe now that also something that everyone can relate to! WINK

I agree about PEG's marina, it can be used in several kind of setups quite easily, I think the only thing missing is generic end pieces (left and right) so we don't have to always use the boat ramp at the right end and the small dock at the left end... I should post a request on PEG's site about it, it would give us more possibilities.

Yep, thinking it over, I wanted to give the whole thing a more family oriented purpose, that is that people could enjoy the place even if they don't own a boat, a bike ride can get you there...

Yeah those jaggies are quite annoying sometimes, would be great if we could zone a sector to have no sidewalks at all... oh well nothing's perfect...

Hehehe, good description of the "split style" bungalow...

You're saying your neighbor went from a lawn tractor to a skidder! geez that's a huge step! He will need more than a garden shed to keep it in!

    PHOTO OF A SKIDDER

    800mr_skidder_sunset_MG_2142.jpg

Anyhow, I guess you're blessed with good friends!

Don't worry about me working too hard, it never killed me! (so far) WINK

    Take care

    Jacky baby!

Hey thanks, just trying to emulate your beautiful shorelines!

Here, snow's turning to rain these days, but I'm sure we won't have to wait that long to be (again) buried in snow...

    See you soon!

    -John

    nexisjc2.jpg

    Hi Nexis,

Yep still going, though this part is more of a sidebar than part of the greater Anduin Valley region...

Thanks for taking the time to comment, it's most appreciated!

    See you!

    -John

    rushmanwr5.jpg

    Thanks Rushman,

I guess the hardest part of detailling is learning to be patient and accept the fact that sometimes it'll take a couple of hours just to do a very small sector... but in the end I'm (almost) always glad I did.

    Take care

    kylekf9.jpg

    Hey Kyle

    No prob. man...

I don't even have the time to visit other CJ's these days... I'm so busy that I even slowed my guitar practice!!! GASP!

hehehe... don't worry I should be back to a normal schedule in 3 weeks from now...

I've just read David post about the jaggies... look like he found a solution.... can't wait...

As for the marina I'll try to post kind of a BIG mosaic zoom 5... I'm trying to find a big (and free) file server....

    Bye for now.

I really like the detailing around the road to the marina, and I've spent the past 10 minutes or so exploring that gigantic mosaic.

Now, when I was just a little boy,

    Standin' to my daddy's knee,

My poppa said, son, don't let the man get you

Do what he done to me.

    cause he'll get you,

cause he'll get you now, now.

And I can remember the Fourth of July,

    Runnin' through the backwood, bare.

And I can still hear my old hound dog barkin',

    Chasin' down a hoodoo there.

    Chasin' down a hoodoo there.

    Born on the bayou;

    Born on the bayou;

    Born on the bayou.

Wish I was back on the bayou.

    Rollin' with some cajun queen.

Wishin' I were a fast freight train,

Just a chooglin' on down to New Orleans.

    Born on the bayou;

    Born on the bayou;

    Born on the bayou.

Do it, do it, do it, do it. oh, lord.

    Oh get back boy.

I can remember the Fourth of July,

    Runnin' through the backwood bare.

And I can still hear my old hound dog barkin',

    Chasin' down a hoodoo there.

    Chasin' down a hoodoo there.

    Born on the bayou;

    Born on the bayou;

    Born on the bayou.

All right! do, do, do, do.

    Mmmmmmm, oh.

The former Golliwogs (bet they're glad they ditched that name) and the wall of sound, pumpin' out that swamp rock from way out in Cali.  Who'da thunk they weren't really Born on the Bayou.  Uh, Doug, a little more cowbell, there, please, 'cuz I got a fever, and the only prescription is...more cowbell.  So next up, Blue Öyster Cult, but first, a few words from our sponsor, the Red Robin Restaurant...

John, glad to see that the Boss Man let you out long enough to do the update.  Wow, you are just a force to be reckoned with using that flora.  It really makes that water's edge come alive.  18.gif  I really enjoyed the mosaic.  That path out onto the jetty is perfectly detailed.  What is the purpose of that pole at the end, pardon my dumb question, and I see there is a one on the other breakwater as well?  The houses that have grown really look natural together, a good fit for the area.  Uh oh, looks like the garbage truck drivers have stopped into the Library Pub for a quick one, and one turned into another.  20.gif  If I remember right, you re-lotted the Aristocrat  Inn?  Did you and Nancy take that carriage ride yet?

Good idea, generic pieces for the dock ends would be nice, that way it would look less cookie cutter.

The linking function is a bit broken.  One has to paste the address in, enter or click OK, then "X out" of the window to get it to go away.  Then click in your message anywhere, next right click on the link to edit it.  Delete out the "java script" thingy, and re-paste your link in the box.  Click OK, and it should work then.

Well, altho he called it a skidder, what my friend really meant was a skid loader, or "Bobcat", which is actually the manufacturer.

    snow_skid_loader-328x237.jpg

It is just a tad smaller 3.gif, and I bet he would like to keep it in his garder shed, but his employer might miss it.  We all really should have one for those very snowy days, moving dirt when gardening, etc.

Well, I'm overdue for some zzz's.

    Bye for now.

Holy smokes that marina is simply breathtaking. You really don't let anything slip, eh? If there's one guy that really pays attention to details, it's gotta be you!

Ack, I missed an update while on Thanksgiving break with very little computer access!

I just spent several minutes staring at that mosaic alone. It's amazing. I particularly love the marina and seawall area, as well as what you've done with the flora along the coastline, particularly blending so excellently the natural and artificial coastlines. My only issue is with the steamboat... is the dock supposed to end so abruptly, with no guard rail or end caps or anything?

Other than that, I'm loving the cabin-looking building (I'm not quite sure what it is - bears a slight resemblance to a style of house I made in The Sims 2... that was before I got SC4 of course2.gif).

    As always, wonderful update!

Salut John.

The coastline detailing is just amazing, that really makes it so realistic and natural. Especially the mosiac shows a lot of depth with all the details. Don't worry about the rich tourists too much, after all they bring a little money into town 4.gif. I think that sector is really developing nicely.

Off to bed now... school tomorrow.

    NOTE

Sorry I don't have the time for the fancy graphics today....

    deathtopumpkins

    Hi Connor,

    Glad to see you here,

didn't know you were lurking! hehehe...

I really like Chris flora, what an easy way to improve our landscaping! It put the "ooomph" in our pics... if not for Cycledog's trees (Subalpine forest), Chris Flora and paths, Jeroni'j and Goldiva's rocks, not to forget SHadow Assassin's bike path this sector would be pretty bland and generic even with all the great BATS that are plopped there... The most beautiful building will not look it's best if not placed in a credible environment, and with all the props we have now we can do it with a minimum of effort.

Each and everytime I play, I can't help but to be overwhelmed at how much this simple game have grown due to the efforts, dedication and generosity of all the BATTERS, Lotters, Modders and all...

The next Sim City iteration (if ever there's one) will have a hard time beating the game as it is now...

Anyhow, long story short, I like working with the flora, thanks a lot for stopping by, and I'm looking forward to reading your comments again.

    Take care.

    -John

    sobol

    Nathan,

Snow's still here... guess it'll be here until april... well it gives me an excuse to play more guitar! :-)

The part in front of the paddle boat/restaurant are just lawn.... for now.... not sure yet if I'll do something else with it. For the moment I just wanted open space in front of the restaurant to give it an "aristocratic" look and feel... rich people like that... just look at any castles.

But... nothing's is cast in concrete and anything can happen!

    Have a great week.

    jutrock

    Thanks Jutrock,

Every comment is an encouragement to continue this CJ.

    See you

    Livin in Sim

Liv you know that I'm partial to CCR don't you.

    Again great choice.

Golliwogs!!!  Jeeez.... Never heard that one before, just researched it on Wiki, very interesting to see how a band is created, yep CCR really is more catching than Golliwogs...

Yeah, as I said to Connor (deathtopumpkins), flora is the easiest way to improve a setup! Chris Adams work is truly fantastic.

The path on the jetty come also from Chris pieces... and the idea simply come from a similar setup we had in our hometown, where the cement path was slowly degrading from lack of use and maintenance and was slowly invaded by weeds and dirt... I was not sure if I could pull it off, but in the end it turned out better than I thought it would.

The pole at the end is a light beacon

    2521904856_2ca5eb46a1.jpg?v=0

(not to confuse with Light Bacon... huuummmmm Bacon!)

    bacon.jpg

But I digress.... yep light beacon, which can be useful at night for a small boat without electronic navigation instruments...

The garbage.... OOOPS.... to tell you the truth, I was son concentrated on making the mosaic itself, that I never saw this! I promise you, heads will roll! Suddenly I feel akin to the Queen of Hearts WINK

Yep, modified the Aristocrat Inn just a bit... wanted a parking lot and a carriage.... nope no carriage ride yet... I guess It's the same things with New-Yorkers, they never go to the Empire State Building and never do Carriage ride... same here we have a beautiful setup in "Le Vieux Québec" but never used the carriages...

    Oh well....

I still have to leave a comment to PEG about those generic pieces... and I agree that it would offer us more variety for that setup.

Hey thanks for the workaround for the link snafu... Hey! Just edited the update and it work! Thanks a million Liv!

A Bobcat, that I know, I've done part of the landscaping at my first house with one of those.... 13 hours of fun! Now that's a toy every guy would love to have!

Hope you get all the ZZZ's you needed.

    See you in a few...

    -John

    art128

    Hi Arthur,

All in a day's work buddy, all in a day's work.

In fact there's perhaps 8 to 10 hours worth on the marina sector...

    See you

    -John

    SirUnger

    Hi SirUnger

Thanks for your kind words, really appreciated.

All I can say is that without all the great props available today, nothing of this would be possible.

I'll try to muster some free time and continue Bywater as soon as I can!

    See you.

    -John

    your_adress_here

    Good to see you YAH,

Well, I try to pay attention to details....

not always successful though, look at all the garbage near the pub in the mosaic!!!!

    Oh well...

    Take care

    -John

    Alafel

    Hi Alafel

Hey no problem about missing an update...

About the steamboat, I guess it was created with the purpose of being integrated in the marina itself... BUT.... being kind of an obstinate person I wanted it to be on its own... and as there's no generic left and right end pieces for the pier... we're left with a pier that has no guard rail on it's sides... I could have gone into the Lot Editor to correct the situation... but I'm kind of lazy right now...

As for the "log cabin", if it's the building with a horse carriage in the parking lot, it's the Aristocrat Inn by PLACEHOLDER

I've modified it a bit in the Lot Editor, I added some parking space and added a horse carriage.

    Have a great week

    -John

    Hi John,

I'm truly glad to learn that AVR can still inspire players to do more with the game, I know for one that without Jeroni, David, Dan (dhoppeii), and so many more, I would not have gone this far.

Hoping you'll like the rest of Bywater as well.

Looking forward to reading you again.

Nice (simple) update John.... I like the river path. Any chance for another smallish lake somewhere near the main thoroughfare?

All is well. We had snow last weekend, but it is gone now. Mostly rain and wind. Still deciding with the new car, because that conditions aren't helping me decide. It's either another Toyota or a Subaru. All is well with the fam. We have had 4 sets of guests since the middle of November (family and close friends). We are going back home to visit the family for about two weeks. I am having mixed feelings about the trip. I want to see the family and friends, but I am used to the leisurely life style we have here, and it's very hectic over there. Ugh.. oh well.

    Have a great week yourself.
