Since you like to answer mail, I thought it's about time for me to write again... Christmas in FL -- I can hardly imagine that time of the year without cold weather and real Christmas trees (well, the snow part can't be taken for granted these days anymore... at least down here in the lowlands) -- I hope you enjoyed it.

I had my semester finals, they kept me occupied for most of the new year... now a have a week off (actually it was a week, it's four days now...) and time to do some other stuff than studying... including playing SC4, which is overdue.

Take care, John!

- Phil

I totally agree with you, since I've rediscovered it, music have become a driving force in the last 18 months. I really am not in a position to give advice, but I'll tell you this: I only have one regret in life, and that is to have stop playing the guitar when I was 23 I never should have stopped playing, music is one of the most beautiful things there id.

Keep playing Kyle you'll never regret it!

    Take care

Hehehe, two Kyles in a row!

    Thanks Kyle, here's some more

    See you!

    Nardo69

Bernhard, I really am so glad for you!

And Mehmet-Dennis looks so peaceful in the picture you posted in Urland, you better brace yourself, that peaceful time will soon be over if not already! Is he sleeping full nights?

Hoping you'll still have time to entertain us with your updates once in a while between your fatherly chores.

    Regards

    -John

    Thanks Criquette!

    Hey Phil,

It really was a first for me, spending Christmas in the sun!

To tell you the truth, I liked it. I thought that I would miss the snow and all that, but not at all!

Christmas is now such a commercial event, and you cannot ignore it because you are literally bombarded with images, sound, commercials (on TV, radio and newspapers) that the serenity that you're supposed to experience at this time of year is stolen from you.

Hey listen to me, trying to escape commercialism and going to Disneyworld! hehehe... Some solution!... I would not go back there for Christmas, too many people! It was insane! But I liked it nonetheless.

You know something, I guess my favorite place for Christmas would be a log cabin in the woods far from all the hubbub. I'd bring my guitar though hehehe...

As for the snow, we are now heading for a record year, we should finish the winter with over 450cm of snow...

I hope that your finals went well, when will you have your results?

    Keep me informed.

    Take care my friend

    -John

Alright now some pictures, please keep in mind that this in no way related to AVR, but rather small experiments, either with terraforming and/or using some new BATS or mods. I consider the following pics to be rather "ordinary", but if it can help anyone it could serve some purpose.

So here it is, some (very small) experiment on the placement of rails trying to find the right balance between practicality and game aesthetics.

    Comments and thoughts are welcome...

Ok, so I'm usually scared of ginormous topics like this one, but I braved it and clicked anyway. I've been planning a rural CJ, and the examples shown here are invaluable. With the rail tutorial, you made something so much better than I've even come close to. You're a saint...

I'll definitely be back soon, and in the meantime, reading 164 pages of CJ history

    Hey John!

After our phone call I decided to jump up here to see what's happening in AVR.

Cool! nice tutorial! There're still some activity here hehehe! I'm always learning with you buddy!!!

    Now I got two questions...

Which water mod are you using?

Are those little rocks your own creation? Doesn't seem to be Jeroni's one.

Looking forward to seeing you...hopefully soon...my friend!

    Take care

    Eric

    Thanks Benedict.

    See you!

    Silur

    Hey Nicks

We had one coastal railroad here but it stopped operations in 1995, it was called "Le tortillard" it was a scenic railroad and was closed due to lack of profitability... what a shame!

    Take care

    Werewere

    Thanks Werewere

    Thanks Jayo

    sobol

    Hey Sobol,

Please do tell me if you find broken links, as I said I'll try to repair them.

    See you.

    Jill Jacobs

    Hi Jill

Please don't be scared by AVR's scale, it's a relax and informal place, I would not want it any other way. Feel free to ask questions about AVR, I'll try to help as best as I can.

About rural settings you should also visit Nardo69 (Bernhard) Urland, and look out for Meinhosen CJ, Dhoppeii (Dan) La Plaisance County all of those are great source of inspiration. Look at my sig you'll find a interesting link about The Rural Developpement project (not yet completed but promissing...)

As to be a saint.... hehehe... I never considered myself in that light, and I doubt I'll ever be one!

    Take care

    -John

    Pinchman

    Hi Eric,

Well as I told you over the phone, the activity is reduced to some experimenting and answering questions now and then.

The water mod in that example is PEG's Brigantine Water mod.

    PEG'S Brigantine Water Mod

    The rocks are Goldivas rocks

    Goldiva rocks

I hope the link is still good!

    Hoping this'll help you!

    Regards to the family!

    -John

No new pics today, didn't played since last time, I'm preparing some details for the beginning of the 3RR collaboration project at SC4D, which should begin March 12.

Anyone who find broken links in AVR please let me know, I'll try to fix them.

    Have a great week everyone.

    In the meantime,

Take care and enjoy life 10.gif

    Hey, John, Happy Leap Day!

Re the mini-tutorial, you'll be pleased to know that shortly you (and everyone else) will be able to incorporate these

    railwidecurvesgq5.png

as well as longer stretches of fractional angle (~15 degree) straight sections of track into your coastal rail lines.

It's always great to get my weekly AVR fix.

    Hello John!

That looks like a great place to take a day off and just enjoy what the season (and of course, nature) has to offer you. But... who is that hiding behind the tree? Not playing a game of hide-and-seek now, are you? 3.gif

    Mail Call

    Eric, glad to help!

David, watch that blood pressure! See you in 3RR soon!

Benedict, sorry to miss so much these days I've read the finale though! And left a comment. (finally!) ;-)

Alek, Thanks Alek, alway good to see you!

Sobol, thanks for pointing this out to Alek, but to tell you the truth, he knows AVR pretty well. I hope you'll have less snow that we had so far this year, we are now well over 500cm (5 meters, or over 16 feet!) this is an all time record in Québec!

Kyle, Hehehe... the one doing hide and seek is my wife, I'm hiding behind the camera!

Sandor (s_olah), I'm always surprised that people still read the whole thread from the beginning! Hat's off to you.

Savahoo, How is it that AVR have 164 pages you asked.... well I guess it was done patiently and with the support of great readers!

    Sobol, yeah, AVR's quite old...

    To All...

Still nothing new, not much playing since the last time, spend most of my time reading and trying to get new ideas for my quad at 3RR... I'll keep you informed that's for sure.

Take care! (and enjoy life of course!)

    -John

No Ingame pic, but here's a pic taken in my backyard, it's taken at eye level and I'm 6 feet tall... I'm standing in the trench, for want of a better word, that I dig to get to my backyard shed. This gis you an idea of the height of the snow!

That is some SERIOUS snow! Here in the NorthCarolina piedmont, nary a flake was seen this whole winter. We did get 1/2 inch of freezing rain one morning though. Now, go thaw out with some hot cocoa!

    Bonjour John!

What snow mod are you using? This looks insanely realistic... 2.gif lol

We also got some snow again recently (it didn' last though, because soil's too warmed up already after that short period of mild and sunny spring weather), but I'm definitely looking forward for summer now... Well, Snow and cold is ok in December to February (that's when we didn't get any... oh well, I was too busy to go snowboarding anyway), I'm more of a summer person though.

I'm also looking forward to your 3RR quad. Have fun and enjoy your reading!

    Hi John!

No snow here, either... although the mountain ranges to the east of us got dumped with snow this winter. That's really good news for the water supply. We're going to be needing water, since our summers are extremely hot (usually in the 90's and 100's).
