Simtropolis Site Bugs

Eastwinn: I've had that before, and changing your avatar can be tricky for Simtropolis if you don't exactly know what you're doing.    It seems sometimes it almost wants to make excuses for rejecting your new avatars.

When you made/saved your icon, you probably didn't "save for web".  You can't do this when you save one off of the internet.  The only way I know how to fix this is to open it up in photoshop, and select "Save For Web" in the file menu.  it should keep most of the detail and resolution, but have a lower file size.

EDIT: For anyone else with this problem and is using Paint Shop Pro -- File > Export > JPEG Optimizer.

There seems to be a bug or something on abcvs posts numbers. There is a wrong link. I just thought that it might need to be clean up or something.

The Page Flip Bug is a well known software glitch that affects threads as they become larger in size. What happens is you make a post but you can not see it because it is on the next new page, and the new page will not show when you click on "Last Unread".

Please do not make posts to simply bump the Page Flip Bug.

A simple fix is to change the last number in the URL string in your browser, to the page that should be showing.  The "missing" page will then appear.  Once the new page has a few posts the bug will dissappear.

The link to download SimMars Beta 2 isn't working. I click on it, but nothing really happens. I get the window that shows the description and pics, but not the "Download this?" one.

Well it looks better now, but there might still be something around...

This morning when I logged into forums here at Simptropolis I've got rather peculiar message from my Antivirus software.

It said that it blocked an intrusion attempt. What was particularly interesting is that attacker was... My own computer and attacked computer was... www.refer68.com (194.54.85.152, 80) and a type of attack HTTP Malicious Toolkit Download activity.

As far as I understand my computer was supposed actually to download that stuff from the said site, site featured in recent attack on Simtropolis. And the even was clearly triggered by my log-in to the Simtropolis forums. I'm running full system scan as I type. but there might still be some code left in forums - something must have triggered the event.

Prior to Simtropolis forums, I've been today on some other sites and had no problems or warnings there. Even was clearly triggered by something here. That same code that was in CODE window show in the post above? If so is it now simply hidden from view, but actually active??

I wonder if something lives now in Cookie from Simtropolis... I'll be deleting the lot of them... BTW what is there no less then 20 (!) of them?

sorry to put more burden on yall, but this is a realy annoying bug, it's like a mosquito that wont leave; when i'm on the Simtropolis Chat Room, when ever someone logs in our out, any form it will freeze up and media played through a flash player, ie playlist.com / youtube.com ect. please tell me if it is a computer thing or not i'll edit this post to fill more iin later.

Perhaps, but remember, it was the whole host, not just us, which means we might have to switch to a new host entirely.

Also, and I'm sure you guys are on it, but the STEX is doing "it" again (no uploads in nearly a week, we all know what that means).

ST lunchroom game in the forum section has a major bug. Page 9 won't show up unless if I refresh FireFox browser, and three posts under my user name somehow ended up on that forum (I did NOT post the three useless posts). Also, I can't delete the three posts for some reason.

Moderators, could anyone of you delete the three useless posts for me, and fix the never-showing-up-page 9 problem?

Okay, I really don't know what's going on at the moment.

Ever since the hackers, ST just seems to be getting slower and slower - it's now at the point where it can take minutes just to post something or even get to a new page in the forums.

I know it's not just my internet connection either because I haven't noticed any drops in speed in any of the other websites I frequently visit.

Yesterday it was horrible. After I finally managed to get the forums up, I was amazed to see that there were only 4 users including myself logged into the entire site! Especially at a time of day when there are usually 30 - 40 +. I'm sure this would have had something to do with the speed at the time.

I'd really appreciate it if someone inside the Dirktatorship could give us some details as to what's going on and when they think these problems that the site's been experiencing may be fixed.

I've noticed this for a while and figure Dirk already knows, but if he doesn't I should mention it anyway. The Chat's Avatars haven't been working since the forum got repaired, everyone's avatar shows as the default ST avatar(which ironically wouldn't originally show in the chat), any reason why this is happening?
