Well, I am so far relatively interested in this whole change. I've been gone for a long time, but wow, this sure reminds me of the whole "Latest Replies" controversy a year or so ago, everyone complaining about it being gone and how getting around the forums was harder, yada yada yada

This'll take a lot of getting used too. Can we get back the old smilies too? The forum looks a lot like other 'cheap' forums. Like BB boards or whatever they're called, I miss ST 4.0.

PS: It may be hard, but dirk, can you make an ST 4.0 theme? With the old side bar and the old banner. You know, one that look like the old site? I love the proformence though.

Glad to see the site back up and the over load issues resolved.
I have one problem though with this new editor. It doesn't have spell check and I can't use google spell check on it either.

Thank goodness we are back. I changed my icon too. Anyways this fourm is way better than the other one. I like how you can chage the site color. I am really impressed. Its nice to be back...

I have a few questions though.  Can we still do stuff like colored text?  And what's up with all of the HTML not permitted?  Finally, what do those Junior Member and Senior Member lines mean?

Would it be possible to enable PNG avatars or offsite avatars (like Gravatars)? Since the max size is 50 kb, it's pretty clear that bandwidth is not the biggest concern, and PNG pretty much pwns GIF (when used correctly). EDIT: stupid link syntax

I've heard from some on at SimCityCentral that the Avatars are going to be smaller, so yes.

Any way, it's great to be back and I hope the STEX will be up soon. Now, I'll go explore some more..

This will indeed take some getting used to... I really love the speed increase, but as I said in the other thread in off topic (I couldn't find this one, or the Simtrop related forum at all, for that matter ) I really don't like the whole Windows XP 2001 look of it.

There are a couple alternate styles I like, but none of them have the nice banner.

I also think it is slightly annoying the way the sub-forums are hidden, but I think I will get over that pretty easily.

Definately a very nice, well rounded update.... but the theme....

 Dirk, can you clarify things a little about the short story on the temporary page, I can see clues but I don't know if they are true or put there for entertainment as we waited for you to put the site back up.
GREAT WORK dirk, I like the new site. though it will take some getting used to.

Since ST is going through some changes (Great work btw), and will probably be down again while these upgrades continue, I thought I'd share this tip with everyone..

If ST is down, and you need to lookup a previous post or something from the omnibus, a site specific google search. You can lookup google's cached version.

Just add "site:simtropolis.com" (without the quotes) to your google search.

If you're looking for NAM related posts for example, just search for "site:simtropolis.com nam"  (without the quotes).  Be sure and click on the "cached" link in the search results.

Here's a link to google's cached version of the omnibus for example:
