Hi, I was playing with the pond set I found in the ST Exchange, and I was trying to get the pieces to turn in a different direction, and I also have noticed that some of the commercial and residential zones get turned in the directions I don't want them going. How do I turn the pond or canal pieces as well as the zones? I was right clicking with my mouse, and seeing that there was a directional thing on the screen, but could not get the piece to turn as needed. I have the strategy guide, but it doesn't say anything in there on that.

To turn a lot such as a building use the Home and End keys to turn it before clicking... to turn a zone in a different direction hold down Alt while placing it.

You might sometimes have to use the shift key as well as the alt key to get the zones to go in the direction that you want to go(shift will prevent roads from forming). Remember that zones will usually point in the direction of the highest capacity roadway so alt may not work all the time. It may be necessary to destroy the roadway to place the zone in the direction you want it to go.

Hold down various combinations of Control, Alt, and Shift when you are laying zones. You'll quickly figure out how to get the zoning patterns you want with out having to each lot individually.

Isn't at least the rotation of ploppable structures such a parks, stations, civic buildings etc. explained in the manual?

As far as I remember only the turning of auto-streets using the SHIFT key is mentioned in the manuel.

He was also asking about turning park and canal pieces. I've notices that some pieces, mainly corner ones, really snap to the road, and even rotating doesn't help becuse half a second after you rotate it, it snaps back. Really nasty when you have to turn it twice to get the corner piece in the right position. End End Click....nope....(bulldoze)...End End Click....nope

Sometimes I've had to just pause the game, bulldoze the road, but the corner canal piece down, then put the road back...

Let's say you have a road parallele to a street, with 2 grid squares apart, and you want to put residential zones between those two, and you want it to face the street. Since the road has more traffic capacity (for for another reason maybe) it will automaticly face the road. In that case, pause the game, bulldoze the road zone you houses on the street and put the road back. I kept gettin that problem so i figured it could be usefull for you know to know this29.gif!

For zoning, you use the ctrl alt and shift, and here's what all of them do (usually, of course it depends on a lot of things.) :

Shift : Prevents streets from forming
Alt : Changes the zone pointing direction
ctrl : makes all what you've zoned a big zone. (if you don't understand this try it out, you'll see).

You can also use a combination of both of these buttons for more options.

Anybody correct me if i'm wrong.

For plopping, you use home and end key to change the direction, BUT, if you're beside a road and you move your mouse, it's gonna redirect itself to to facing the road !

Hope that helped !44.gif
