boris, it's hard to explain, but being circular makes it look wacky in game, i basically have to make a square with a circular hole in the middle of it, my lot will sit inside the circular hole and the square (only 0.5m thick), will sit at ground level, so in game the shaft will look as if its surrounded by concrete, i guess one i do it and post a pic it will be easier to explain.

I've always liked the idea of having mines in sim city.

And as someone else has said, I think blade runner/neuromancer styled buildings would be good.

surprisingly i couldn't find any realy good pictures... These sorts of buildings would be for poor commercial and residental for the later stages. I was going to make some bladerunnerish buildings, but my models don't appear in the lot editer, so i can't check things in game.

Bladerunner is definately a good place for inspiration. If you have model files that you would like for me to test out for you, feel free to PM me. Also, the building team could use help if your feeling up to it. Post some of gmax shots and you might get an invite. We don't mind freelance help either.

I did two versions of the building. Only slight changes but it will give it a little variety. Here's an in game pic of both versions

Excellent! Nice to see a neighborhood forming up. I like both versions equally!
 
BTW ODM, I may have missed something, but whatever happened to that tower you were completing?

here's a pre render of my mine, note it no longer has the circular shaft, due to technical reasons and the game engine8.gif, so i made a sqaure shaft instead, will do a render tonight

Hey octo thats really good! I like the circular shaft better! To bad you had technical problems with it. But the square shaft looks good also! Keep up the great work!!

Thats a shame, the circular design looks better.
I think that i know what your problem is, its the LOD's, right? You can either make custom LOD's or, when you are finished the moddelling of it, put it on webcollab with all the needed textures and dependancies, and ill bat you up some custom lods, i think it will be quite easy infact.

Can somebody complie all the files for the proj?  I just want to see screenshots of the UDI, bats, mods, etc. combined.  Kinda 'pre-simmars' effect.  Please.. ^_^   
 
edit: btw fosterk, can you also contribute to the proj?  I would really love to see your creations in SM.19.gif

Boris: I have been having render problems with the res tower. I kinda got frustrated with it so I have been doing smaller buildings. Don't worry, I'll get it to render eventually. It's all the curves. They drive have really driven up the poly count.
 
Edit...well since no one has replied I'll just edit this post....
 
Here's what I have been working on. It's a low wealth residential home. I just have a few more details and them I'm finished.

outdoorsman, looks really good, almost very similar ro arcitecture on tatooine!!, well my mine elevator is finally done, the square version anyway, fosterk is going to make some custom LOD's for the circular version

Hry octo, that looks superb! ill need a week before i can get it done, as i had to reformat my laptop to get the router to recognise its existence, so i lost pretty muche everything, now i need to get my sound drivers back, and reinstall gmax/bat too, but ill be able to do it fine. One week is all ill need (i hope).
 
Meowza : What creations do you suggest? Battleships on mars? [:P]

A large battle cruiser would be a nice addition to an army or air force base. And think, since there isn't any water, you wouldn't have to mess with the custom foundations and everything else to make it look good in game 1.gif

Octo: just noticed, the square mineshaft, you can see the base, could you extrude it a wee bit more, for realism, it should look like going into the abyss, try some green or red nightlights down there too, that'd smarten it up, or, I could try that with the circular one, which by the way, i need more time with, till I get my new pc (laptop died on me, its too much hassle, so, new pc). Hope that helps,

I think either would be pretty cool. Really the BAT team hasn't gotten a lot of direction so we are just making up a lot as we go 1.gif. I do know we are trying to replace all the original buildings in the game and that includes an army base and missle silos. I would thinking something along those lines would be cool. Hovering floaty stuff would be cool too. Use your imagination. As long as it fits in with the Mars theme it should be fine. Also, if you want to beef up the silos to make it a larger defense lot, go for it. If you decide to make something, post updates in this forum or the SM forums and I'm sure you can get some feedback from at least Oct7 and I.

I'm not sure if this would work at all, but what if you made a square shaft, and then made a prop of the circular part, and then sunk the prop into it?

hey fosterk1.gif, sorry if i replied a bit late.  anyway, i know that ur good with military type structures.  Not sure though on what kind... Well, as you said, levitating tanks, carriers, laser silos, futuristic watch towers, or other military stuff; i think would be really cool.10.gif
 
edit: almost forgot, that C$$ is good looking ODM, i especially love the logo, keep it up!!35.gif

with your rocky shack, dont you think that the toxic (or oxy) barrels should be props? cause then it wouldn't pop up everytime. adds some variety.

heres a work in progress of boris's grand museum, so far i've done the facade complete with banners, including a custom texture for the museum sign, the part behind the facade houses a large globe of the planet mars

fosterk, go for it with the nitlites, lighting is my least favourite part of batting! also for the millitary stuff, i have a quad barrelled turbo laser i made for my jail, and also a prop of an at-st walker, i have also had thoughts along the lines of a missile base, housing both long range missiles, and short range SAM's, the long range missiles could be in silos or launchers that raise upwards to fire, the sam's should just be housed in standard box launchers, similar to the us navy's on spruance class destroyers.
tanks could be something like terminators hunter killer's or the trade federation hover tanks, just some ideas
