I have an urgent question.

I still play the orgional SC4 Deluxe edition.

Recently I lost my 2nd CD!

So the game won't run anymore...

Anyone knows how to solve this?

Grtz

Hey, about upgrading to deluxe-- can really detailed instructions be provided? Is the deluxe upgrade available as a patch, or do I have to buy the CD and reinstall the whole thing? If possible, I would like to continue using my old vanilla game, but if I can't access all this site has to offer, I want to upgrade. So, could you reply to this with those instructions and I would really appreciate it. Also, would I be notified through my email if this post got replied to? Just wondering. Thanks and keep up the wonderful site.

The Deluxe contains both SC4 and it's expansion pack, so it is not a patch, IMO. While about the instructions, You must uninstall your vanilla game before you can install the Deluxe, because SC4Deluxe contains the vanilla game+Rush Hour Expansion pack. So, the answer is definitely yes, you must reinstall the game. Fortunately, you can keep playing the cities that you have made previously after the reinstall. However, you can't play both the vanilla game and the SC4 Deluxe because it contains both SC4 and the RH Expansion, but I think once you have the SC4 Deluxe, you will never be interested again in playing the vanilla game only. After you upgrade your game, I suggest you to upgrade the game version to the latest version, 1.1.640 or 1.1.641, if you haven't. I'd also suggest you to open a new thread instead of bumping old threads another time.

Welcome to Simtropolis!

Yes, the Deluxe Edition must be purchased separately, as it's an expansion to the vanilla game. The easiest way is to buy the digital version from GOG.com or Steam. This comes fully patched (1.1.641.0) as a download, and doesn't require a play CD. Once installed, the digital version is essentially the same in terms of compatibility. Unless you can find the game cheap at a retail store, I'd advise this is the best option.

Also, to continue using your old cities, remember to backup your entire "Documents\SimCity 4\Regions" folder before uninstalling.

Thanks for replying fast. I think I will download the digital version. I currently have the play CD, so this should be a lot easier. While I'm asking, would the digital version work if I downloaded it onto a Chromebook?

As part of our ongoing reorganization, this topic has been unpinned. You can still post in it and the master list is the Index of Useful SC4 Resources - Look Here First thread.
