I highly doubt that Edmonton's population will QUINTUPLE within 44 years. A more probably prediction for Edmonton's population (as I live here and know the trends) would be somewhere around 1 - 1.5 million with a metro of 1.5 - 2 million. The other 90% of your other population predictions are quite impossible as well. The only one that is plausible is Toronto. Edmonton will not be a world city, and West Edmonton Mall will be surpassed in size by many malls in China, and one that is being constructed in Dubai. Vancouver will NOT have the highest skyscraper, as the Burj Dubai which will be completed in 2008, will be between 700 - 900 m tall. And I think that it is highly unlikely that an 'ice storm' will eliminate millions of people. No more pollution? That is literally impossible, forest fires can pollute, and pollution remaining from now will still linger in the air. The populations you have proposed would look more in place in the year 2100 - 2150. I am not flaming you, just trying to tell you that though you may WISH that Canada be like that in 44 years, chances are likely that it will come nowhere close.

Hrmm. You what really is going happen is that Netherlands will rule the world. Even now they are breeding super human beings with extraterrestrial tissue found from space, they will be smarter, stronger, and stuff. Also the Netherlands has been collecting a special team of scientists that have already made hover-cars. Anit-grav units and teleportation devices, everybody knows they have better teeth and are resistance to all diseases. Infact they couldn't have an ugly baby if they tried! So there! And I am not even Netherlandish! I better go marry some girl over there quick!

jeez, they also invented shadows and color TV, I mean...everything was Black and White before colors were invent on the Netherland Color TV...amazing I know. Just don't eat moldy bread or you get weird ideas.

I love coffee and buildings.

The United States will remain the most powerful superpower in the world. We will quickly forget the disastrous Presidency of the current George Bush. Russia will return to a superpower status but will not be as powerful as they once were. China will be number 2 on the list and will ruthlessly competing with the United States. The EU will be consolidated into one country except for Britian. Also the Middle East will have calmed down but will still be violent. Africa will still be increadibly poor but the UN and the superpowers will be focusing on helping Africa because they do not have to worry about the Middle East that much any more. All goods will be manufactured in Asia and (saddly) even the cars. Besides that, the world will basically be the same but the world population will be HUGE!

@ Porshe-AG:

I meant any human pollution. I know Vancouver won't have the tallest building in the world, I meant in Canada. I really do know about the Burj Dubai. And Edmonton will build new malls, and WEM would expand. Perhaps many immigrants all of a sudden came to Canada, could bring the population really high, especially in the cities. Also more babies would be more...Canada would try to attract more and more people by high skyscrapers in Vancouver, large malls in Edmonton, beautiful scenery in Banff, Mountain views in Calgary, sports in Toronto and Mississauga, and booming Halifax (far from what it is now). Lots of suburbs will become apart of the cities.

Human pollution literally? Because you do realize that each breathe cycle you take releases carbon dioxide into the air? I don't know about Vancouver having the tallest, it's a possibility, but it's more likely to be in Toronto or Montreal. I don't think immigration patterns would fluctuate dramatically all at once, but it could increase over the years due to overcrowding in China and Japan (which is guaranteed) and the easy ocean access to Canada and mainly Vancouver. Personally, I think that Vancouver will be attractive to visitors because of its extremely diverse culture, extravagent scenery (mountains and ocean), and the fact that it's been rated as the #1 city to live in the world. Vancouver has extreme potential, and all it needs is a slightly larger workforce and international recognition to be made public.

I just want to take some of the points and expand on them.

1. I doubt that by 2035 Ireland will be reunited – more likely the Northern Ireland will remain as part of the United Kingdom but as a crown dependency. Although the economic ties between north and south will be very strong and the eastern coast, I agree will one large and very wealthy commercial centre.

2. The Beaufort Tunnel I think is more likely, especially if the UK mainland goes ahead with the maglev line linking London with Glasgow, which would then be extended from Scotland to Northern Ireland by means of the existing road/high-speed rail tunnel and then linked with Dublin.

3. I also agree with an Ireland wide rail network, and a high-speed one, the high-speed service between Dublin and Belfast should be complete by 2020 according to Translink (Northern Ireland) and Irish Rail

4. 5km high skyscrapers is highly unlikely

5. I also doubt the fall of the EU or UN, I think a re-shaping of both is likely to occur as they develop and grow.

6. Australia is a possible potential Presidential republic, Canada less so

7. The Irish weather is unlikely to change by any vast amount and certainly not to the extreme mentioned, unless something terrible happened such as the Gulf Stream slowing or stopping, and that would not create any warm weather at all and would also stop any expectations of economic glory for Ireland and the UK. I doubt that will happen not for many thousands/millions of years

8. The other Ireland points seem pretty realistic. The Belfast Orbital should be complete, as plans have now been drawn up, Belfast by 2050 will have several light-rail services, EWAY linking the city centre with east Belfast (under consultation at the minute) CITI (linking the City Airport to Belfast city centre via the Titanic Quarter), WWAY (west Belfast to city centre) and although not yet planned, but very likely, lines linking the north and south of the city with the city centre and I imagine a new shiny GLR  central terminal to be built.

9. I also think that by 2050 Northern Ireland will bid if not hosted the Commonwealth Games

10. Ireland will bid for the Olympics (and win!!!!!!!)

11. I really do not believe that by 2050 global poverty will not longer exist, the population growth is realistic but nearly all those new people will be living in poor nations. There will be vastly increased assistance to help poorer nations but poverty is something we will have for a very long time.

12. Most of the rest I agree with to a degree.

I just believe that Canada will not become a Republic in the forseeable future. Unlike Australia there has been very little debate on Canada becoming a republic (apart from in Quebec). Canada tends to see the Monarchy as an institution and they also see it as a difference between themselves and the USA. Many Canadians also see the Queen as a symbol of unity and authority.

Australia however is a bit different, some have been vocal in support for a republic state by some political parties, even then I doubt it will have occured by 2050. The majority of the population favor leaving things as they are and about 20% don't care.

here's my new one

Macao will surpass Las Vegas as the gambling/entertainment capital of the world. Meanwhile Vegas, searching for a niche, will finally realize its cool be kitschy and they'll stop blowing up all the old cool casinos.

Hydrogen will fuel most cars, animal waste and Thermal Depolymerization processes will produce plastic products. things like tires will be made from rendered cow guts

currently a small city, Las Cruces, New Mexico, will be the first major city in the world built on space exploration. with strict enviromental laws the development there will be green and compact and be a model for other cities.

Emo music will be considered classic rock. Old football coach guys wearing polo shirts with their guts sticking out will be jamming to it in their pickup trucks

An adult stranger making eye contact with a child for more than 5 seconds will be executed by lynching due to new laws preventing sexual predators.

Somebody will clone a human

There will be smart beers , auto-pilot cars, and robot soldiers. But the drinking age in the US will still be 21, and the draft will still be an option

China will win the new space race and go to mars before we do

65% of the population of europe developed world will be overweight. Countries like US, UK and Canada that faced the problem early on will have substantially lower statistics. We will now be able to say "you french are so fat".This will be because large health insurers will lobby for a "food police" as the epidemic cuts into their profits.

ubercorporation Macquarie-Cintra will own all of the worlds highways, and we will be billed monthy for driving places

Due to the cylical nature of design, the 2050's will look a lot like the 1980's

A lot of BS laws will drastically change the internet for the worse . Free speech will no longer exist in the interest of 'security' and 'morality'.  Archaic copyright laws dating to the print age will cause everything to cost money and large monopolistic media giants will control the internet. In the face of this, a new network based on P2P principals like the Tor freenet project will become extremely popular among a segment of the population.

People will look back at the 2000's and think it was good ol days. Reality TV will be held in high regard in comparison to the current form of entertainment, which will be considered 'crap'

I will be old!

  12. Northwest Airlines will have gone into and come out of bankruptcy 6 times before making the killing off of China-USA routes it thought it was going to make in the last half of the 1900's.

Phoenix 2050:

- Phoenix will be the fourth largest city in the US, behind New York City, Los Angeles, and Houston

- The metro area will fill the entire valley and spill over the mountains

- We'll finally have a halfway decent mass transit system

- Mesa's population will be at 600,000

- The freeways will still be in desperate need of an upgrade

- It will still be an inferno during the summer (March - November)

- Phoenix will finally get a definate downtown

- Paradise Valley will still be tearing up the surface street near my house once every six monthsquote>

Ha..was looking for someone's take on the Valley of the Sun in 2050. Here is my prediction for the Phoenix area in 2050

Global Warming has made Southern Arizona steadily increase in temperature. Also, because of vast endless LA-type suburban sprawl, people are no longer migrating to the Phoenix area in droves. However, the population of Arizona will reach nearly 15 million, most of which are located in the agglomeration formed when the Phoenix and Tucson metro areas merged at Picacho Peak. Gila River Indian Reservation is a small island of undeveloped land surrounded on all sides by suburban growth.

Other predictions:

-Work on Loop 505 is completed ahead of schedule, but as always, they didn't build enough lanes and so the freeway is clogged with all sorts of hydrogen-fueled cars.

-The Light Rail will be expanded, but the expansion won't match the pace that new development has gone, and so will still not take anyone where they need to go

-Sheriff Mark Arpaio (name made up) will open Maricopa County's 9th Tent City in suburban Aguila

-A townhome on 450th Avenue and Baseline Road will be selling for almost a million dollars, because it's "close to the city center."

-Sky Harbor Airport will have opened their 8th runway to handle increasing traffic and to accomodate the new Boeing 827. Also, Virgin Galactic flights will be available out of Scottsdale Municipal Airport.

-And lastly, rich New York real-estate developers will still not be allowed to build a high-rise in Phoenix because it will detract and negatively impact the environment. Nevermind the effects of years of tract-house-development on the environment..we want to see the pretty mountains that are covered in houses!

The 2010's will start just like the 2000's ended: the world will be filled with war and uncertainty. However, this will change when the current leaders turn old, and the new generation comes to power. The year 2012 will be crucial and will mark the beginning of a new, more peaceful world (even though it won't come until around 2014-15, the year 2012 is still considered the year of the new age, arguably because of the London Olympics, that kickstarted the worldwide peace-revolution)

The 2020's will start of perfectly, everyone will be convinced that peace is now everlasting and that war is "soo last milennium". The EU will still be a major force in Europe and the world, but much less so, because there is no need for it. They will keep things quiet, as the general opinion is not pro-EU, and few new initiatives well be implemented in the first half of the 20's.

However, something fatal happens around 2027-29, and people start fearing war again, but don't really see it as a possibility.

In the 2030's the war later to be known as the World War breaks out (the period between 1914-1945 is now by most people known as the World Crisis of the 20th Century or simply The World Crisis). Nuclear war is feared, but is prevented in the last minute.

The 2040's are marked by post-war crisis and conservatism. As people seek inward the EU becomes more prominent once again. A huge AIDS epidemic will hit the western world, which in the end leads to a cure being found around the mid-40's. This cure turns out to be a turn for the world, that now seems to be heading towards brighter times. The end of the 40's will be dominated by people trying (and succeding) in reviving the glorious 10's and 20's.

And so comes 2050, a world at peace (at last), hoping, but no really believing it will be everlasting. The 50's will look much like the beginning of the 20's, the EU will be less dominant and some nations are even talking about resignation. The cure for AIDS will finally reach Africa, and people will in general focus more on human values and less on economical. New age religions become briefly popular around 2052, but this quickly fades away. The maglev/high speed rail network the EU built some time ago is now being expanded into the outisde world, and other continents are following (China already has a huge network in place). The term "superpower" will not be prominent, and even though conservative americans still claim the US is a superpower, it's definitely not so anymore.

Global warming has caused major problems around the world (especially during and after the war), but things are now seemingly stable, though the sealevel has indeed risen and the average temperature aswell. Space exploration is once again a major focus, after having been at a standstill during the 30's and early 40's.

There's a lot more details, this is just the general world situation 3.gif

Let's see, hm. Since I have ancient descendents from the Aztec's, I have to say the world ends in 2012, which is a real bummer because I'll just be going off to college. I say that in November of '08, Dubyah will do something stupid because he can (end the Iraq War with a couple A-Bombs), thus throwing the World into panic. Major armies from around the world will launch attacks on Washington D.C. (the Empire Capitol) and ALL U.S. citizens are put under curfew. All air traffic in, over, and out is ceased, along with shipping, slowly killing the stock exchange and economy. In 2011, the Supreme Empire (Dubyah) will commit national suicide by ordering the destruction of the Capitol, while he hides out somewhere in the lower Central Valley in California. The British and Chinese Armies will regain control of the Northeast and Southern California. A few weeks into 2012, the Chinese Army will find Dubyah near Fresno, CA. During interrogation in the California State Capitol, he says he has hidden nuclear warheads a half mile underneath every major city over 750,000 in population. This thus causes a major earthquake to be unleashed with the epicenter exactly underneath Hollywood, CA that stretches all the way to St. Louis. This earthquake is powerful enough that a huge fault opens up along all the plates, literally tearing the planet into large chunks in space. The atmosphere will remain intact until the plates slowly drift apart, with the Eurasian plate heading toward Mars and South America going toward the Moon. After that, each chink will slowly die off and thus become large meteors hurtling toward other planets. *insert smile* TopCliff

Personally i don't want to see how screwed up the world will bee by 2050

World

population- over 9 billin people

the elephant and polar bear will most likely be extinct.

Glaciers will gone gone from the alps

there will be 20 cities with over 20 million

ALL Oil reserves will be dried up

millions in inpoverished area will have died at ages below 2millions and millions could be displaced by natural diasters and global warming effects.

It could be very bleek future, but who knows the world could be a much better place, i guess we just have to wait.

[Please use the edit button] Marc

I would also like to point out that by 2050 the worlds population could acutally stabilize and even decline eventually, fertitaty rates are dropping in developed nation around the world, less people will be born, the only population growth in developed nations will be imagrants from poor, less developed nation.

Hmmm here is what will have happened in 2050 in Christchurch, NZ

The first building over 40 stories will be built.

The city will become even more American, with uber-sprawl and stripmalls.

Aranui and Linwood homes will hit 7 digits prices as they are 'non-car dependant suburbs'.

Small, artifical 'communites' will pop up everywhere in a 50km radius.

State Highway 1 will finally be two lane each side from Kaitaia to Invercargill.

Moorhouse ave will be 5 lanes, and Brougham a 3 lane ring-road.

As for the world:

Flooding of low-lying countries like Bangladesh will all evacuate to nearby countries because of sea level rise.

India will leapfrog China in development and population and become the second superpower of the world.

New York through to Washington DC will become the worlds first megametro city, with subways and bullet trains connecting the two cities.

Antartica will finally get drilled for oil, and will cause the rest of the continent to melt into the ocean, rising sea levels even further.

London and Shanghai will collapse, because of rising sea levels.

And finally, the population will hit 11 digits.

How about the Las Vegas Valley where I live....

-There will be a 8.0 earthquake inbetween now and 2050

-Gas prices will be $10.00 a gallon in the valley

-After our gas prices rise, all the crude oil coming from the Middle East will stop coming into the U.S. and there will be no gas to ship goods and food. Therefore, the whole city will go up in chaos and a lot of people will die due to the extreme heat and no ACs because of a troubled economy.

-If the whole U.S. doesn't get cut from crude oil or chooses an alternative energy source, most of our cars will be powered with hydrogen.

-I do agree with everybody on the sea levels rising as well.

How terrible for the Americans that pertrol/gas may be $10 a gallon in 2050, for a US gallon here in the UK you would pay $7 roughly an that's in 2007. The US economy is focused too much on oil, if the governments, both state and federal spend more in alternative fuels then maybe oil won't be such an important issue in 2050 thus the economy may not suffer heavy decline.

Thank You for the Continued Support!

Simtropolis depends on donations to fund site maintenance costs.
Without your support, we just would not be in our 24th year online!  You really help make this a great community. *:thumb:

But we still need your support to stay online. If you're able to, please consider a donation to help us stay up and running. This helps sustain a platform where we can share our community creations for years to come.

STEX Collections

By way of a "Thank You" gift, we'd like to send you our STEX Collector's DVD. It's some of the best buildings, lots, maps and mods collected for you over the years. Check out the STEX Collections for more info.

Each donation helps keep Simtropolis online, open and free!

Thank you for reading and enjoy the site!
