If the ID number strings are 100% identical, keeping one copy should do.

Maybe a repackaging would be worth a thought:

- One folder for "XYZ building essentials", which would contain the building model and the props that you need in any case

- One folder for "XYZ building growable", which would contain the lot and desc file for the growable building

- One folder for "XYZ building ploppable", which would contain only the lot file for the ploppable version (remember you can delete the desc files for everything that can be plopped, as they are merged with the lot file by the LE automatically)

Now that Sam mentions it, I remember that while I always appreciated your making both ploppable and growable versions, I also found it a bit confusing to sort things out when I didn't much about this stuff yet. 2.gif

My next project was a request (and I don't have that person's Simtrop Nickname since it was before the Simtropolis update (I kept it in my PM)) from a Simtrop member - and this one is a Sears Grand - it should be done by the end of this coming week (1st week of April).  No pics of it yet so far.  Stay tuned.

Hey bobbo, thanks for doing Sears Grand!

For those of you who dont know what it is, its your basic Sears store plus groceries on a huge one level store! The best of all Sears has to offer.

P.S. Since these stores arent common, if you have any questions about the building, PM me.

P.S.S. Here is a snapshot of the Sears Grand in Thornton, CO.

    progress2006-03.jpg

This picture shows what makes Sears Grand different from your average run-of-the-mill Sears- milk and grocery items! (Yes, you see Pepsi at Sears! Your mind isn't confusing you!)

    65_711_SearsGr1L.jpg

    54_223_Sears3L.jpg

Sears Grand has the #1 name in Automotive Service- Sears Auto- on either the right or left hand side of the store (the garage bays are built into the store itself, unlike Wal-Mart which has Auto Centers sticking off like growths). On the opposite side of the store is a huge outdoor Garden Center (complete with some sun shading for the plants).  Merchandise Pick-Up. (complete with car canopy and parking spaces of tis own) is located on the back side of the store (obviously, so it can be closer to the stock rooms).

Continue with the one you have, almost all the stores vary, due to them being prototype stores. About the only thing that they all have in common is the two doored entrances and the beautiful store frontage.

tntornadox - here's what I got - far from being done  (majority of course isn't done - roof junk I haven't started/trim haven't started ... just want you to see what's going on - and if you have any suggestions....

tell me what you think - give me hints, pointers - whatever - if you are not happy, I'll scrape it and start fresh again.

    gmax view - Sears Grand

Picture below:  I know there's no roof junk (I'm not done yet) - right now I'm having a problem with the main entrance over on the left side of the building - the center section there.  The awaning over the main entrance is gonna be re-done, this is just a temp right now.  Garden Center is over to the right of the store and behind it is the Auto Center.  So tntornadox - if you have any suggestions, let me know - or if anyone else may have any suggestions let me know.  Thanks.

NOTE:  This model will not be scratched and done over again.

Bobbo! This looks JUST like an actual construction site and so realistic as though onlookers drive by and see the bldg take form in stages.   I almost would like a copy of this in its "progression " stage for my city just for that "feel".    Your work looks better and better!!!  Gotta ask how can somebody "improve" on whats already "PERFECT". You got the golden touch

Since you are having trouble with the left entrance awning and all, why dont you just make it easier on yourself and extend the entire right hand side over the entire front of the building?

Extend the white part with the Sears Grand logo on it and put a seperate set of doors on the left hand side, like you have done the right hand side? Also- behind the white part that you have the Auto Center sign on, you may wanna extend the building out to meet that wall (the auto center on the real thing juts out from the side of the actual store). In front of that "Auto Center" wall, you can put the exterior part of the Garden Center (flowers, shades, etc) and extend the store frontage all the way out to the right hand side of the building.

I imagine it would make it easier on you as well.

The only other thing I notice is the logo on the outside could be a little bit bigger. That is all I notice so far, great work, looking forward to plopping it down in my cities!

thanks tntornadox - yeah I'm working on the center sign now making it larger as I'm typing this to you - that's an idea about extending the wall all the way across the front - the auto center (garage part of auto center juts out?) - i'll work on that too and play with it.

    thanks for letting me know

Edit:  tntornadox, since the auto center juts out, I saw a closer look of one - I'm gonna scratch this one and start over again, with the similar one that you sent me above in the Colorado Thornton area ...

tntornadox - this is no problem - I enjoy BATting and doing request - this is a pleasure.  I've been working on the second version of Sears Grand, and here's what I got so far.

    nsg027jv.jpg

I tried to get the walls the same colour as in the photos - I hope it is satisfactory to you.  If not if you want a different shade or something doesn't look right - let me know, and I'll tweek it.  Hahaha you like my new logo "RWBobbCo Arechitects & Builders - my good friend SimRico gave me that.  Also you can check out this site as well, it's not all the way up - but we are working on it.  www.thebobbo.com - the only thing that works is the guest book, and the Simtropolis link.

Robbie, this is really NICE.. Sears should take YOUR design and adapt their stores to your draft.  This is a class-A bldg for sure!    The Auto Center modification looks really professional!   It willbe a great addition to simtropolis downloads! as well as to your Department Store series!

Id lower the Auto Center wall a bit, it needs to poke up above the side wall, just enough so you would be able to see it. Other than that, the only other thing that strikes me is the logo- the "grand" portion could be a tad bigger...oh, yeah...dont forget the little "dash" under it 2.gif

Great work! It is looking great!

Cool, I lower the wall between Garden Center and Auto Center - and the sign is was just a temp - the new sign will be bigger.

Edit:  I lowered the AutoCenter wall - and made the Center Sign (logo) larger especially the "grand" and you should see the arch below the grand

    searsgrand017ej.jpg

Of course I'm not finished - roof junk - flooring - sidewalks- and other odds and ins.  (edit) I just realize that the auto center wall is still high - I lower it more.

Nice work.  Hope I can eventually get the hang of BATting.

I like the look of the building a lot.  Only comment I have is the garage bays for the Auto Service center look closer to double wide glass entry doors for people (like you might find on a large department store)  instead of large up and down garage doors for cars.

Maybe with some of them open would be cool.

Or maybe it just looks like that zoomed out...

Great work on the SEARS logo... it really looks like neon!

I've decided to share my Burlington Shopping Plaza that I had created back in the Fall of 2005.  The plaza is a 12x7 ploppable and growable with stores that include:

    Giant Eagle
    Radio Shack
    Little Ceasar's Pizza! Pizza!
    Mo'nique Hail & Nail Salon
    Gateway Computers
    CVS/Pharmacy

Burlington Shopping Plaza isn't based off any real plaza - just something conjured up.  Here are the screen shots.

    bspnight1dj.jpg

    bspday1ku.jpg

    bspsign9jo.jpg

Growable lot is called Burlington Shopping Plaza which holds 340 jobs
Ploppable lot is called Burlington Shopping Plaza v.2 which holds 500 jobs (don't ask me why  the difference in jobs - well ok - I just made the growable tonight, and had forgotten what the jobs were for the ploppable  where when I created the ploppable back in the Fall- so I guessed - sorry)

Ooops Dependencies are SC4Jeeks parking overlays - sorry (the growable if you wish only to have that one doesn't have dependencies - my apologies)

OK... I know this probably isn't a smart question... I'm kinda new at this...

But, since no dependancies, is the parking lot a plane with a "parking lot" texture and then lights [cleverly] placed at the right spots to line up with it?

Or did you model all the cars, trees, and lightpoles? Which would be handy to have, just like a file full of roof junk, to import into your model.

I'm asking because the sign [which is really cool] would have to be part of the model since no dependancies...

<EDIT> On 2nd thought, it looks like you did 2 seperate models.. each with different "parking lot texture" and somehow merged them into one .SC4model and .SC4desc file... since the number of cars is different.   But I have no idea how SC4 does the nite lights.

Are there 2 seperate Building Exemplars (one for day and one for night) or 1 Exemplar and 2 Resource Key Types?
