My plugins folder is 700 MB and growing. The only hitch is that menu gets increasingly cluttered!! No problems so far :-)

You can have tones of stuff in there it just takes quite a while to scroll through it all!! I've got an AMD 64 3200+, just make sure you get a good MB.

The more lots I add the longer it takes to load the game Then once in the game it takes a bit for the menu tabs to open. Also it takes a while to scroll to find what you want. The more you add the more resource is require.

I have an AMD 2400+ with 512mb I am going to get another 512mb of ram next month or in October. I sure this will speed up the game.

Well, it doesn't take longer to load the game, but when you have to scroll
through all your lot and bat files in the Rewards/Landmarks/Parks menu's
it takes very long.5.gif
And i don't it has not only to do with my Athlon AMD 1700+.
Btw, i have more than 2.000 files in my Documents/Plugins folder.3.gif

Takes me at least 30 sec or more befor the EA logo apears for me then after that it loads in to the region pertty fast.

When I click on a city it take 30 secs or so to load. Once in a city it is ok until I click on tabs. The the game pause until the tabs open. Really sluggish performace.

Building and scrolling seem ok.

I got 495 mb of bats, lots, mods, and props. Im running a amd 2200+ MOBILE @ 1.79 ghz With 256 mb of pc 2100 ddr sdram with 266 mhz buss (64 mb of it being sucked up by my intergrated vidio card). It takes me 5 min to load the game and 2 mins to load a blank city to terraform. My menus are cluttered(u'd figure one of these mod freaks(god bless thier souls for creating wonderful products)would make a menu orginizer, not to get of subject). Can't climb above a city population of 40000 and sky scrapers are a no no.And finally I cant even get parts to upgrade my shitty lap top cause im stuck in good ole Iraq and this game is my only friend. Oh to answer the question I copied and pasted all plugins to see how many plugins fit in the folder and come to the concluse that you can put as many as you want until your hards drive is full.

My second post at ST Ever and i been a member since 3000 came out 14.gif

My plugins folder is somewhere around 300mb of the best ST has to offer!

Along with other sites, of course...

    Here's a picture:

Do note that the last folder displayed starts with F, and these are in alphabtical order. It's way easier to keep track of your plugins in folders, then if you have any problems, you can delete whatever it is that gives you the problems VERY quickly! 1.gif

I have a 700+mb pluginfolder with more than 3800 files and it kinda starts showing a bit when I open the game. It takes a second longer to start.
    I have a 2,8 with 1024 RAM.
Cities are slower to load, when they are extremely big, nothing much to do with the plugin folder, but more with what you got in your City.1.gif

Wow, whoever said the EA logo takes longer to load puts a spark in my thoughts.  When I compare an empty plugins folder to a full one, the EA logo ACTUALLY DOES take longer to load before moving into the movie.

I also noticed it takes longer for the landmarks menu to appear when you have more plugins.

I have nearly 800 mb of junk in my documents plugins folder. (and then there's the SimCity plugin folder) I haven't seen much of a slowdown though. I would go through and do a little cleaning, but I'm afraid I may start some conflicts. Now I'm stuck with them all not knowing where I've used some and where I haven't.

That's how I organize it! But a lot of the things in my plugin folder are already all dumped in the root folder and the file names aren't very self-explanatory either. So I can't move all mine into folders now. 7.gif

But the big lots with several files are all in folders in my plugin folder. :D

If you put every lot and BAT file out there in 1 of 3 things would happen
    1. You will have tons of cool buildings and customization options
    2. You computer explodes
    3. SC4 screws up and you lose all those plugins.

While an interesting concept, I'm not sure you'd really want to download every single lot and bat file. Even though you might have enough room for it all, they might cause a lot of problems with SC4, not to mention the fact that they might not even be compatible with each other.

P.S. Think about all that time spent downloading... 46.gif

Would they all show up on the screen? or would they place some other building that would have been there otherwise?

    also

Is there a limit to how many lots you can have in your plug-in folder? I'm going to make a mega system soon AMD 64 3200+ with 2 gigs of ram.

The one problem with an unorganized plug-in folder is if you get conflicts or want to dump a lot then it's a chore to go through it. I like how Peg & others do custom install folders.

Needing to reinstall XP soon, reformat the boot drive, all that. So once it's time to mess with SC4 I plan on organizing all lots, bats, etc., into child folders.

No way would I attempt to snag everything from Stex. A 1700 with 768 sdram & 64meg radion 7000 runs the game just fine, but with to many plug-ins Im sure it would crapp itself.

I am currently at almost 3gig worth of plugins....There is a very noticable lag both ingame and long waits for the game to load....but there doesnt seem to be a real limit....just what your system is able to handle. Though once you get to a point you will have to be real careful about conflicts between plugins and lots....textures that use the same id's as others and such

Your freedom is the most expensive thing you have, even if you arn't the one that paid for it... Use it well.

Awh, I only have a Gig and a half, but the worst is scrolling through it all.  The wait isn't so bad since I upgraded my RAM, but it's still long.

What's crazy though is that many BATs really doesn't scratch the surface of how much is on the STEX,  I'd make a guess of somewhere around 30 Gigs.

Well my laptop has a 2.4 P4 and 1 gig RAM and 64MB graphics card. It takes 10minute to load the game and I have nearly 3 gigs of files. The game is sluggish at times especially as the city gets larger. The NAM slows things down allot but I can't live without it. When I get my PC down here I'll have more RAM and Graphics ability, as well as a slightly faster processor. The SUM is a god sent since you can pick and choose what loads.

I have AMD 64 FX-57 processor, 4096 Mb Ram, and my plugin folder is 960mb with 2700+ files. My game takes 2 min to start with my largest region. Ram is very important, my old computer had 512mb ram and only opening a menu in the game took 5-10 min. Starting the game took 20 min. My plugin folder now is about the same size as my old one, but my region is much bigger. My current region is 4097x4097. Processor is not as important, my old processor had 2,4 GHz and the FX-57 has 2,8. I find that the size of the region affects the start time much more than the plugin folder.

I have 3500+ and gig of ram, but a faster hard drive is probably the key to loading times here. I'd say go by a Raptor (or two in a RAID config) then try that.

all the files...thats just plain silly47.gif  thers no limit to the number of files in your plugins but

simtropolis has enough files that if you downloaded them all, it would crash all but very expencive high end computers...which most ppl don't have19.gif

plus the conflicts in the lots let alone mods...it would crash to the desk top everytime46.gif

    you never get to play20.gif

Aye same here....If it wasn't all the viruses....If it wasn't all the times I kicked the damn thing...(I get pissed easy...lol)It was when I got to around 1.5 gigs and had about a .5 or 1 gig of files for music....

So yeah its basicly what your computer can handle.....I got my computer in July of 04 and started Downloading almost anything that looked good...my computer didn't even last a year before it just died....

Cause I joined in Nov and downloaded alot of stuff till about September....So yeah you can try,but you gotta be smart and rich about how you do it....

but if you have a ton of bats and stuff and your computer still works then you may end up with cities like the ones in my CJ Bostalk...it got to the point where newer cities didn't even have much maxis content at all....but remember I stoped Downloading in about September of 05 and I had 1.5 gigs...so after about 5 months I imagine theres atleast .5 gigs of new things on the STEX...
