A DLL Plugin for SimCity 4 that extends the bulldoze tool.

This plugin adds several new modes to the bulldoze tool that control which item types it demolishes.

Download: https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/36571-bulldoze-extensions-dll-plugin/

Source Code: https://github.com/0xC0000054/sc4-bulldoze-extensions

Flora Bulldoze Mode

This mode is activated in the city view using a Control + B shortcut, this can be done with or without the bulldoze tool active. When the flora bulldoze mode is active, the bulldoze tool will only affect objects the game considers flora.

Network Bulldoze Mode

This mode is activated in the city view using a Shift + B shortcut, this can be done with or without the bulldoze tool active. The network bulldoze mode has two modes, the modes are selected by the modifier keys that are pressed when releasing the left mouse button after selecting an area.

If the Shift key is pressed, the bulldoze tool will remove everything other than the transportation networks (excluding power lines and water pipes).
If the Shift key is not pressed, the bulldoze tool will only remove the transportation networks (excluding power lines and water pipes).

Diagonal Bulldoze Modes

These 3 modes are activated by Alt keyboard combinations.

  • Alt + B for a diagonal version of the default bulldoze tool.
  • Control + Alt + B for a diagonal version of the flora bulldoze tool.
  • Shift + Alt + B for a diagonal version of the network bulldoze tool.

The size of the diagonal area can be changed by holding down the Alt key and using the mouse scroll wheel to adjust the size.

This feature was implemented by @CasperVg.

De-Zone Keep Networks Mode

This mode is activated by a Shift + V shortcut. It removes RCI lots and zones, while ignoring the transportation networks. The Maxis de-zone tool removes the street and dirt road (RHW) networks.
Unlike the Maxis de-zone tool, this tool cannot remove landfill zones.

System Requirements

  • SimCity 4 version 641
  • Windows 10 or later

The plugin may work on Windows 7 or later, but I do not have the ability to test that.

Installation

  1. Close SimCity 4.
  2. Copy SC4BulldozeExtensions.dll and BulldozeExtensions.dat into the top-level of the Plugins folder in the SimCity 4 installation directory or Documents/SimCity 4 directory.
  3. Start SimCity 4.

Troubleshooting

The plugin should write a SC4BulldozeExtensions.log file in the same folder as the plugin.
The log contains status information for the most recent run of the plugin.

Now that sounds like a useful tool!

Quick question: are the vanilla trees considered flora for this special dozing?

They should be. It worked with both the vanilla God mode and Mayor mode trees when I tested it. That disclaimer is for some MMPs that SC4 appears to treat as static models, I may have to look into that some more.

It turns out that this doesn't apply to the bulldoze extensions DLL, only the flora cloning mode of the query extensions DLL. The query tool has some additional restrictions on selecting flora occupants.

Release version 2.0, which adds the following features:

    • Added diagonal bulldoze modes and custom highlight colors (PR #2 by @CasperVg).
    • Added a 'keep networks' bulldoze mode.
    • Added a 'de-zone keep networks' mode.

Version 1 was fine but now I get an "error saving city" when trying to save (button, ctrl+S - I have the save/exit buttons disabled) with version 2.0. I I'm not sure what specifics I could provide that would help troubleshoot the issue so would appreciate some guidance.

I am not able to reproduce that. The DLL doesn't touch anything related to the save system, so I have no idea what the issue could be if it was caused by the DLL.

Whelp..... somehow saw the list of "critical mods" going round reddit recently and realized I was missing a few that were, uh, clearly critical for game play (beyond just saving errors with other mods). Stripped the computer to zero, redownloaded, and now things are so snappy and wonderful. AND the tool works! I appreciate the time you spent creating this.
