A couple of questions!

I am new to the game and was wondering what mods I need to make the game playable and enjoyable! I know that I need NAM and am interested in getting CAM, but I have heard that the mod is complicated to install! Any advice is appreciated!

Welcome to the game and Simtropolis...

To start off, you might take a look at these posts (Link) (Link). There is some good information and other places to check listed on them. As for CAM, by itself, the mod is not overly complex to install. Simply follow the instructions. The 'complexity' comes when you wish to add more things to utilize while using it. But that is not required for the mod's effect to take place. It all depends on what you want. Check it out and let us know if you have questions.

Hmmm. What about the part where the installer needs to update Simcity_1.dat, but the OS doesn't give it the proper permission and then it's sort of half installed?

Seems to me (tho things may have changed in the two years I was away) there's an entire PDF with how to manually finish the CAM install. Was it something @rsc204 wrote? Or maybe I'm remembering how he referred to it quite often while helping someone else long ago?

Yes, sorry... I had to step away for a bit and just closed out the post. I've been looking for the most up-to-date info on that. There is a link to a set of directions on the listing page banner for CAM 2.1 but not sure how 'new' that is. A pop up will also appear during installation, but again, not sure how up-to-date that is. I guess I read 'complicated' as trying to install the additional material out there...

Thanks for jogging my memory. I was thinking it was in some long lost forlorn post attachment, but now I do recall we added a big banner to the file listing.

CAM is undergoing a review process to improve the installation and add bugfixes as well as new features.

There are currently three procedures for installing CAM

Install CAM manually
Download CAM 2.5 RC1 to get Simcity_1.dat and perform the normal installation of CAM 2.1.1
Or install SubMenu DLL mod and install this patch

I also recommend that you follow this guide on how to configure SC4

Question! 

I tried to install NAM and extracted the 4GB patch and everything. I ensured the final destination was set to my plugins folder before I clicked to install it. I completed the installation and nothing was in my folder... Any help is appreciated!

Have you changed the location of your Plugins folder? When you ran the installer, you should have seen your Plugins folder named in the Location window. The lined-out section should be the profile name on your computer. If this isn't what is seen, you may need to browse to find it. If it actually installed the first time, you might try a system search for 'Network Addon Mod' to see if you can find where it was placed. Maybe you inadvertantly used the Program Files plugins folder...?

Okay, this may sound complicated, but what happened is that I installed SimCity 4 from Steam onto an external hard drive, or so what I thought I did, but it turns out it was local on my computer, so it is in my plugins folder now, but it is installed twice in my plugins folder, so should I just delete one? Also, what is a clear sign that it is installed and working within the game?

If you mean you have two Network Addon Folders, then yes, you need to delete one of them. Curious as to how it installed two. Are they both the same? Did the second add something to the name so that is wouldn't over-write the first, or did you do that manually? Either way, if it is installed correctly, then you should see a lot of extra items in the various transportation menus (roads, rails). And all should be usable. If any aren't (e.g, red cursor), then there may have been an issue with the install, and you may want to do it again - removing the old one first.

Okay! I think it worked because I have tons of overpasses and lots of new items!

Great! Not sure what you may have experienced during the installation process, but if any new features don't seem to be working correctly, you might try removing the current installation and trying it again.
