Finding or modifying a radius mod to work with CAM 2.1.0?

I''ve just tried installing the "More Realistic Radius", and the "Radius Doubler Mod" mods but neither appear to work with my install. My suspicion is that they're incompatible with CAM as one user in the comments for Radius Doubler Mod mentioned that it isn't compatible whilst another said it was compatible with the Rural version of 2.1.0.

I'm kind of leaning toward the first user being correct as my Plugin folder is pretty much just NAM, CAM, the various bug fix dats, and a couple of embankment lots. There's nothing that would change the radii of lots.

Is there anyway of me, a modding novice, making More Realistic Radius compatible with CAM 2.1.0, and is such a practice against the rules?

[EDIT] I forgot to mention. I have installed iLive Reader 1.5.4, and I did try just changing the coverage radius (I can't remember the correct name) of some of the buildings but it had no effect in game.

Radius may be modified in CAM 2.5. @Ulisse Wolf?

So you may as well wait for this version to be released. Hopefully soon enough.

I hope @Ulisse Wolf considers it at least.

I just find that really breaks my immersion, having to have a fire station, police station, two types of school, and possibly other buildings, every few blocks (I wonder what SimCity 4 would be like if coverage was caluclated on travel time rather than distance as the crow flies?). The approach that More Realistic Radius takes makes far more sense to me, where it's not so much a question of radius coverage (as the large versions of the buildings cover an entire large city) but rather a question of capacity.

I would still like to know how I'd go about "fixing" incompatible mods, as I'd like to get into modding myself... I jsut having got a clue where to start.

Honestly I don't understand why these mods aren't working in some way, since the radius of a civic/service building is determined in the Buildings Exemplar. Put another way, in order for CAM to interfere with it or stop the override working, a copy of the same Exemplar would have to exist in CAM. However, no released version of CAM until now includes Schools, Hospitals, Fire Stations etc, likewise the NAM never will include them either. So there shouldn't be any conflicts with CAM or NAM when it comes to installing these mods.

Bear in mind there is no way you can use both of the linked mods together, because they do the same thing (edit the same Exemplars/properties), they will conflict with each other.

There might be other Exemplars that do conflict, in order to determine that, check the files in the Radius mod using this process or with DataNode. Both will quickly flag duplicate or conflicting files such as I'm talking about here.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

I'm currently in the process of creating a new OS install, including recreating my SimCity 4 folder, as I've always wanted to integrate it with the use of ZFS Datasets and Snapshots. That way, I shouldn't have to worry about corrupting save files, and I might even be able to leverage ZFS Dedupe and have multiple Plugins folders that take up a lot less space.... heck, I could even have entire "SimCity 4" folders that I can swap out at will, without it eating up too much space.

So it's the perfect time to take the opportunity and do some testing with just CAM and either one of the radius mods installed. You never know, I might get lucky and find out that there's some conflict with another common mod. I'll also take a shot at finding an issue with the Exemplars as you described.

    Just a quick update.

I've installed the GoG version of SC4 along with what's listed below, and the MoreRealisticRadius plugin is still working. So when I have time, I'll be gradually re-adding everything else from my previous plugins folder.

    • CAM 2.1.0 (InvisiChem),
    • NAM 48*
    • HT_DemandFix.dat
    • OperaHouse.dat
    • SaveWarning_Disable_Exit_Quit.dat
    • Spaceport Fix Mod.dat
    • IH_census_10_78_12.dat
    • Plugin_Crimedoesntpay_modd.dat
    • SC4Fix.dll
    • ENN_SlopeMod_Mount620.dat
    • morerealisticradius-v1.0.dat

*Perhaps I should have installed the same version of NAM as I was using with my old plugins folder but I thought there wasn't much point as I'd naturally upgrade  to a newer version of NAM anyway.
