Plugin & Mod Recommendations

I have spent the past few months playing the Apple Store (Aspyr) version of SC4 (I'm running Ventura), with a few basic mods, including NAM 47, functional landmarks, and a few bug fixes. So far the game play has been very good, with very infrequent CTDs.

I'm looking for mod, texture, dependency, plug-in recommendations that people have used successfully on this version of SC4 that won't cause my game to become unstable?

Do any of the seaport mods work well?

Will a Mac run everything except an exe. file?

Hi, fellow Mac player here.

I followed this thread here when starting out collecting mods more than a year ago.

As for the seaport, I can't say much since I rarely use them in my city.
But I can recommend these 2

I tried installing BSC Seaports before and managed to get them to work well.
But, the hassle is just too much.
So, if you want to give it a try, I recommend only installing some of the ports that you're interested in.

And last, yes, for the ".exe" installer,
I'm using Parallels Desktop to run Windows on my Mac so I can run the '.exe' installer.
Just the trial version should be enough.

Good luck and enjoy the game!

    Update:

I downloaded the BSC Common Dependencies Pack V8 from SC4 Evermore, and I am now running BSC Seaports 3.1.

I have placed ports and they are growing in my cities.... but the ships that you see docked at the ports in the videos are not showing up on my game.

Any clue whether I'm missing a particular dependency for this? Has anyone else had this issue?

This thread appears to list all the BSC seaports and their dependencies. Many prop packs have been reorganized, but it's likely that, for example, SOMY ships are contained in SC4E's "SOMY Dependencies Pack" or JRJ ships are contained in SC4E's "Jeronij Ship Pack" etc.

Currently BSC Seaport is not recommended to be used as it is a problematic mod and does not do what is advertised. Until we fix it and upload it to SC4E it is recommended to uninstall BSC Seaport and instead install Pegasus CDK3 Collection

Thank you for the info Ulisse Wolf

When you say "until we fix it and upload it to SC4E," does that mean it will will be fixed at some point in the near future or will it be a long time?

I don't mean that to sound impatient, but I like the concepts of the mod and want to use it to its full capabilities.

Also, when you say problematic, does it just not function as it's supposed to or am I risking serious errors that can wipe out a city?

More like it will be a future thing. Right now we are re-reviewing the LEX content by applying a general file review, so it is time consuming. Currently there is no ETA when the mod will be available again

The mod simply does not work and can tamper with the RCI application. You should not risk CTD or other things that can distract the city, but it is recommended to uninstall the mod because of the bad modding that was performed

The basic problem is that these ports tried to incorporate a feature Maxis left out of the original release. Specifically Seaports providing Cap Relief. Without that feature, upgradable Seaports didn’t make sense so these were not present in the release although remnants of them were left in the files.

Essentially, whilst they look to provide Cap relief, there seems to be a bug in the calculation of that relief that can actually create a negative number. This is a problem as it can happen that you end up filling the demand Cap rather than providing more. I came across this issue and investigated it a while back.

Frankly I can’t see a solution except removing the Cap relief feature, much like Maxis did. Probably because they either couldn’t resolve the bug or didn’t have time to do so.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.
