Banished - Intro to Smallville's World

  Hi, My name is Abandoned, and since I hope to post my next story here on Simtropolis soon, I thought I would fill you in on what has gone on before.

  Smallville's World began on October 16, 2016 with my World of Banished blog posting of the town of Smallville.  That one settlement snowballed into 98 more towns and stories, the last being posted just before the WOB site went down last week.  Most of the settlements are connected in one way or another to Smallville.  Most are rural villages or small towns although some are not so small and the last settlement, number 98, was Central City.

  Banished is a much different game than SimCity and takes place in a much earlier time period.   Smallvilles' World has 2 time frames; Smallville Time (SVT) starts in year 1, however most stories are told from the year it was settled being year 1.  So, a town that was settled in year 30 SVT is being told as its year 1; its year 3 would be year 33 SVT.

  Smallville's World is made up of a diverse group of settlers; there are Elves, Dark Elves, Dwarves, Hobbits, Leprechauns, Fairies, Pirates, Gypsies, Egyptians, Asians, Native Americans, Pilgrims, Aliens, and even Santa, his elves, and 8 tiny reindeer.  ho ho ho  Their settlements are scattered all over the map.

  I started a rough map of Smallville's World on a piece of scrap paper.  A comment from Brad, who is here at Simtropolis, said it was difficult to tell where my Bannies were.  The comment prompted me to make a (not so good) map that I posted in the Intro of the next several stories.  My stories and my map improved as time went on.   The 1st map shown below appeared in the Intro to Story 10 and had 10 towns on the map, by Story 17 there were 17 town.  Another WOB member named Savidan asked if he could make me a new map with a program he had.  Story 18 displayed a beautiful new map in the Intro; it is the 3rd map shown below.  To this map I added town after town, and rivers, railroads, and wagon train trails.  My goal was to have 100 town on this map, 98 were posted when WOB went down.  Central City Story 98 is in the center of the 4th map shown below.

 

 

    Each story starts with an Intro page telling where the new town is and why, and the SVT year it was settled or the SVT year the story was being told.  I give the map generating information and then I list the mods used in mod order.  There is often a new Kid mod being test and is so notes. I have 366 mods in my windata folder, but I activate 50 or fewer mods per story, my mod list stays the same, the mods are just activated or deactivated. My mod list improved over time and my system works for me. I have a lot of variety.  I often add a music video or 2 of old songs to the story that in some way influenced the story or sets the mood.

Thanks for the recap have been reading your stories since I joined the site and it was always interesting to see how you put villages together and what new mods kid had come up, in some cases in partnership with yourself

Kid and I certainly worked on a lot of mods and updates together, some were inspired by my idea for a story and some stories were inspired by a new mod.  Hopefully there will be more in the future, at least one for sure.

 There's a song that goes something like that  Red River Valley.  I bet it'll be in the story by the same name.

The World of Bannished website is back up.  I am in the process of reposting the 8 Smallville stories that were lost because of the crash, stories #90 - #98.  Story 99, Red River Valley, will continue here where it is and be reposted on WOB.  The final story will also be posted here.  

 All the stories before story 75 lost their pictures after the first WOB crash a few years ago.  The stories can be found in the Sightseeing/Village Blog section of the WOB site here: https://worldofbanished.com/index.php?board=30.0

All stories will eventually be posted with pictures in the new Banished Club here on Simtropolis.

  I have made a Season 9 Fall Pics album in Abandoned Images in the Banished Club.  The pictures are from various Smallville stories.  Most of my story pictures have game interfaces shown on the pictures, showing statistics or what building from new mods are and what they produce.  I think I found a nice selection of fall pictures that do not have many interfaces showing.

I have posted the Intro page from Story 1 - Smallville in the Smallville section of the Banished Club.  I posted the Intro today because it is exactly 7 years since I posted it on the World of Banished Blog.  I will post the story after the Red River Valley story is finished and before the last Smallville World story begins.

 thanks, it doesn't seem that long, time goes so fast.  It was like a "just one more turn" turn-based game; just one more story.

Was not planning to post stories so close together but stories 5 and 6 are both Christmas stories so I was hoping to get them posted before Christmas or at least before the end of the year.  I will post the stories in number order, hopefully often.  I do not want to spend another 7 years doing this.

Here in southeast Wisconsin USA it is winter; last Tuesday we had 6 inches of snow, on Friday night and Saturday we had 16 inches, and on Saturday night 2 to 3 more.  Now it is sunny but below zero temperatures.  It is Winter.

Posting of Smallville World stories will continue as time permits.  Until then I have made another seasonal album of pictures from the Smallville stories.  The new album is Season 2 Winter Animals, something to look at while waiting for spring.  Find it in the Banished Club under Abandoned Images tab.
