Intro:
After leaving Smallville, there were still so many wonderful mods I had yet to try, but I did finally decide where to go next. My first Mountain Mission was not a success, I had too little space to build and too many people to feed on a small mountain map. However, it was such a nice setting for the Mission mod and I was eager to try all the new additions to that mod. So for Story 2, I decided to use the same map seed #981933154 and start conditions but chose some different mods to enable, some I have tried before and some I have not. They are as follows:
New Roads, Wild Life, Forest Outpost, The Mission v1.21, Better Fields, Brussel Sprouts, Buildable Storage Carts. Carrots, Extra Leather, Fenceless Pasture, Fishing Dock, Idles Small Fishermans Dock, Mexican Fantasy, More Iron, Mushroom Fix, One Year is One Year, Raspberries, Sample White Chicken, Slink Lawn/Rough Lawn, Specialized Stockpiles/Trading Post, Small Well, Tiny Compilation, Tunnel Mine, Washing Mod, Village School.
So far, so good after one strange problem earlier on, suddenly the game froze while auto-saving. I reloaded and it froze when I tried to save. I tried to determine the cause by undoing or not doing what had been done since the last good save. The last probable cause I have not retested yet. On my first Mountain Mission map I build the tiny town hall, the nomad well, and the non-nomad Mission church. I had a lot of nomad mouths to feed. So this time I built the nomad well for early nomads, surprisingly got some before building the tiny town hall. This time I built the Mission Church with nomads, wanting them to go to the Mission instead of the well. Not wanting to be overrun with nomads, I planned to remove the well. When I stopped the removal of the well, the save game problem stopped. For now, the well is still on the map so sadly many nomads have had to be turned away. Luck for me, weary traveler, you were not one of them or I'd be talking to myself, so let me tell you about this Mountain Mission.
Chapter 1
Yes, weary traveler, you are right. We were very foolish, but we were young and in love. Jeral and I were both only 16 at the time. Plans were being made for the first expedition to leave Smallville, and we knew our parents would not allow us to go. My name is Lian, my parents are Ramondy and Felecta, the town elders of Smallville. Yes, at age 16 we should have known better, my parents were worried sick when I disappeared and so were his. They did not find out we were alive and well until the following spring when the boatman returned there with news of our whereabouts. Yes, the same one whose boat we stowed away on. He was pretty mad when he learned we left most of his supplies behind so there was room on his boat for us to hide. What was left was not enough for the three of us to survive on until we could reach the port at river junction. That's why he left us with the group of flood survivors who were going to rebuild a mission settlement. They were happy to have us join their small group of 8 adults and 9 children.
Year1 - Day1. They all came out to greet us that first early spring morning we arrived. They'd been staying in the large storage barn they built. There was only a trace of the previous mission settlement to be found, they gathered whatever they could. They were eager to start construction. Fisherman Rome and wife Corinda, both 15, build a house by the river. They took 3 of the young children to live with them. Rome said he picked a good spot to fish; he learned where best to fish from wise elders at their old town meetings they called a forum. Flores age 17 and wife Alle, age 16, with 2 older children built the house next to them. They would be hunting and gathering in the forest to the west. Konnellie and Aramina, both 16, and Thel and Ashanler, ages 16 and 15, would build house across from them. Both couples had 2 children. Jeral and I pick a spot near the stockpile to build our house. We would farm and chop firewood. Jeral, who would later become cleric, married us himself. Our first child would be born within a year.
Year 2 Early Summer. We settled well into our new homes and new lives. We had a village school ready and waiting for its first student. We welcomed our first 2 nomads that early summer and 2 more the following spring. We needed the extra workers. We built a tiny dock and filled it with as much iron, tools, and firewood we could spare. When the boatman arrived we had enough to trade for 4 of his 6 sheep. And he brought news from our parents in Smallville. We sent back news of their grandchild and assurances that we were happy and healthy and were warm and had plenty to eat.
By late autumn of year 3 our population was 25, 4 children were in school. We built a tiny town hall and had begun paving some roads. The snow did not melt well on our new roads like it did on the stone roads back home, we were concerned that if we paved the roads in the outlying areas laborers might lose their way in the snow. We had plenty of supplies for the winter and planned to begin work on the mission church when weather permitted.
