DiagonalBridgeEnabler.dat got empty all of a sudden

I used DBE with DBE toggler for years with no issue, but at some point the DBE toggler dialog just stopped appearing and the game would start as if I didn't even have DBE.

I inspected the DBE folder and it turned out that the DiagonalBridgeEnabler.dat file got empty (not deleted, literally empty, as in, 0 bytes). so I guess the "I didn't even have DBE" part was technically true?

This was easy to solve, I just replaced the .dat file, but I don't know what might have caused the issue. I don't even know what happened last time it had worked (although it might have been a CTD or force-quit).

Is this a known bug? Not that it's a hard-to-solve issue, but it still shouldn't happen.

Note: I did switch to Linux+Wine at some point, but that's not when the issue started occurring.

I can say that I have had the same thing happen two or three times over the years. The dialog box just stopped appearing. Although in my case, no files went missing. It just stopped working. As you did, I simply replaced the files, and everything went back to normal. It happened so rarely that I did not notice any pattern that might explain the problem.

im Currently having this issue, but replacing the dat file nor the DLL solve the issue. The dialog box won’t appear anymore, the game just opens like if “yes” was selected (I mean no water). I think the problem may be the DBPF DLL startup optimization, but I’m not 100 sure
