Hi, after a several years hiatus I want to start playing SC4 again. I have a world map that I have been expanding for years and hope to not have to start from scratch. Can someone help me with the installation? I installed SC4 Deluxe, but it keeps crashing before my map loads. Really appreciate the help!

Hi @Gpsarros. I think it might be a good idea to start with the essentials like SC4Fix.

If the game crashes (pre or in-game) it is also a good idea to check if you run SC4 using one CPU core. I was able to fix some crashes this way.

I hope someone else can provide you with some even more useful tips bit until that happens, feel free to try the above.

Happy New Year!

The "SimCity 4" vanilla Opera House is the most evil thing in existence. Avoid.

So first off I should mention if you can’t launch the game without a CTD, neither SC4Fix nor setting to run on a single core is going to help with that, although it is recommended to have both since they prevent many common issues.

The most important factor is when the game crashes, I.e. how far does it get loading before it stops. I suspect either you have NAM installed but your new install of SC4 doesn’t have the 4GB patch applied. This will result in the game CTDing about 60-90seconds into trying to load a city. The other possibility if you’ve restored old Regions/Plugins folders, if your save contains some content you no longer have in Plugins, that too can cause the game to crash, but usually you would very briefly see the city load, just before it crashed. The most common causes are the use of HD Textures if you are not using DirectX Rendering or Trees planted with the god mode tool that are not present in Plugins, most typically when the correct tree controller is no longer present.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.
