Swapping props and textures

LE, PIM-X, FSH?!?!

What I want to know...what program do I need to do what I want to do...I am working on making a military base and just want to edit a couple lots for my own personal use.  One is Simmer2's Heliport and replace the civilian helicopter props with military props (looking at Casper's Huey props).  The other thing I want to do...and I don't know if it is possible...I have deadwood's SNM security fences and because they don't have a base texture they suffer from the water bug.  I know I can save' exit, and reenter and it goes away...but I don't like to waste that time seeing as I save fairly frequently...so what I want to do is take the default ground texture (I use lowkee Appalachian) and set that as the base texture...

Use Lot Editor or PIM-X so you can visually see what you are changing. Ofc, reading the full manual for either program will help a bunch to reduce frustration.

Same two tools can work for these. Since you've seen them with the water bug, that does indicate they do not have a base texture (as you said), but also that they do have an overlay texture. Here you'd have a couple of options. First, remove the overlay textures and have neither a base nor overlay and then your terrain mod would show thru and there'd be no water bug. Or, add a base texture and then the overlay one is optional. The base texture covers the whole cell as it's not allowed to have an alpha mask.

Fixing them so there is no water bug is the best way, but in case you aren't aware the Cori's Partial Water Bug Fix makes it slightly less painful to deal with. Later in that same thread @hugues aroux created a Cohort version so all the data views prevent the water bug. There are a few caveats about how said data view will look and you can find that in both of our posts.)

Yep. That is something you could do to resolve the water bug. (Tho you might find no textures is the better way so the terrain mod just shows thru.)

Note: If going with no base and no overlay textures, then Lot Editor is not the tool to use since it won't allow saving this way. PIM-X will and, additionally, some of these kinds of tweaks can be done in Reader if you know what you are looking for.

@Tubthumper

Just a quick heads up...

We've moved your Quick Question post here into a new topic, since that'll make this easier to search and find for others looking for a similar solution. *;)

    Thanks for the info - downloaded that and works well, a lot easier than trying to learn a program to remodel all those files needed.

    Read the manual???  No, I prefer to beat my way through it...haha, will have to look at the manual.  Hopefully switching a couple of props won't be too hard...
