Hello there,

Mac user here, Steam version of SimCity 4

I have downloaded  .bmp and .jpg files of the attached map and, accordingly to other topic, I created folder Hong Kong in SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition.app/Contents/GameData/Regions/ directory where I put them. Nonetheless, they do not display in "Load Region" box. Why that?

Thanks for help!

This type of map provides the terrain as a height map in grayscale form and then needs to be rendered from the region screen. It's a bit complex, but not too difficult to learn. There's an extra hoop to jump thru when doing it on a Mac. We can provide linkys to all of the steps if you are going to experiment yourself with this map or others.

In the meantime, I've rendered it and placed it on a temporary hosting site so you can simply grab the ready to use version.

The above is available for one week before it is automatically deleted from their server. Inside the .zip file is a folder with all the city tiles. Place the Real Size Hong Kong folder (from the .zip) into your Regions folder.

    Hey,

Thank you for that! Of course, I would be also gladful if you provide me with those links so I won't ask for every single map.

Alright. We'll dig those up and post them. I do need to head out for a couple or three hours so it'll be later on. (Or if @Cyclone Boom pops in, he'll post them. He's an expert at finding such things.)

Ok. I'm back and I believe this thread is a good place to start. The OP outlines the steps they used to start the grayscale import. Then later in the thread is that extra hoop for Mac users I mentioned. It's in this post of the same thread followed by more details from the OP in the next post when that worked. Then also within that thread are linkys to other related topics, but you might not need those.

Additionally, there are maps that are not the standard Maxis 8 bit grayscale like the initial one you found. Maps which have a .SC4M extension are significantly higher precision and so can also have very smooth slopes rather than abrupt differences often seen in the 8 bit method.

However, the .SC4M maps require a special program called Mapper and it only runs under Windoze. You would either need access to a Windoze comp or a way to run Windoze on your Mac such as Boot Camp or Parallels or something like those.
