Well, you have made some very nice BATs lately. Besides the high quality I am excited to see stuff from China. It is such a big country and your last creations alone have already shown quite an impressive variety of different buildings. And I bet there is a lot more. Please keep 'em coming!

    Curiosity on your BATing experience:

I wondering one thing in these time. Is there any BATer who had the experience of exporting a skyscraper or gigantic structure in HDoutput, How long will it usually take?
(I know everyone has different factor and conditions, but just curiosity)

    A little state update:

I currently letting my PC exporting a building the whole night, I hope nothing bad happen.

You have to ask yourself, in what way do you intend to view the final building, because this actually doesn't make sense, that is an HD export, for larger buildings which are more generally looked at in zoom5 or below. This is because there is no zoom6, modders simply realised if you provide a larger (HD) texture, that it get's downsampled (reduced in size) when viewing at zoom5, but remains at it's native size in zoom6. This is compared to the standard behaviour where the zoom5 texture is shown at its native resolution, with zoom6 being upscaled (made larger). That's basically all a HD export is, switching the function of zooms 5 & 6, so HD exports only look their best when viewed in zoom6, whereas regular exports will look better in zoom5. Of course, there is nothing technically to prevent you doing so and rendering anything in HD, but this is the technical side of things.

When rendering usually it makes use of all your CPU, which can place a strain on your system, however provided you have sufficient cooling it should not be a problem. Running a laptop at full pelt for many hours over and over can reduce the lifespan of your laptop drastically, since few are made that well and can't cool the processor as effectively as a desktop can. But in theory if the thermals (temperature) get too high, the system should switch off to prevent any damage. It's just the cycle of heating/cooling is especially bad for the lifespan of most laptops due to the nature of how they are made. Some brands/machines fare much better than others, but many have deficiencies in the cooling systems, especially cheaper machines.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

Agree, have no idea why people use HD for Skyscrapers when they are almost never viewed at Zoom 6, thus ruining the most important Zoom which si Zoom 5. Even Jason didn't use HD for his Guardian building and its one of the most detailed BATs ever produced.

I would suggest bating in SD first, I would use a few of your BATs as I like them had they been exported in SD.

That said, thats just my opinion.

Omigosh, I thought the latest project was going to be another ultra-modern building of stark planes and bold colors, but now I see it's actually Guangzhou's historic landmark Nanfang Building, formerly The Sun / Daxin Co. Building!

The Sun Co. Ltd. building is wonderful!

In its STEX description you mentioned the following:

    Quote

To be honest, when I export it into the game and compare it to Oi Kwan Hotel. It feel it is taller
than OiKwan, but I double check its scale that I find nothing incorrect about it. It is just because
    of the game view prespective.

I was thinking it looked unusually large as well, but when comparing its height (~50m) to your Oi Kwan Hotel (~64m), they looked fairly correct.  I also noted the real-world building has relatively tall floor heights.

The Sun Co. Ltd. BAT did, however, seems squat compared to real-world photos, as the facade below the spire in photos has a roughly equilateral square proportion emphasizing the vertical architectural columns, while the BAT instead suggests a unequal rectangle emphasizing the horizontal architectural elements.  I had then thought maybe a scaling increase of the vertical dimension by 133% as commonly done by BAT artists to correct for distortions created by the unreal isometric perspective that squashes facade proportions might have needed to be done.  However, comparison of The Sun Co. Ltd., Oi Kwan Hotel, and the Daqing Building against BATs by other artists who are known to use 133% scaling correction suggests your BATs are already similarly corrected and would be over-corrected if this were again done.

    C09tu2V.jpg

But, the corrective scaling is intended to restore the visual appearance of proportion, and, if the modeled heights are correct and in proportion, and they appear to be, then it must be that the modeled width is not correct nor in proportion.  I don't have measured drawings of the building, but we do have tools to roughly estimate measurements.

Looking at Google Earth Pro with its Ruler tool, the width of the main facade at the the projecting cornice should be roughly 40 meters:

    xPwc3wa.jpg

Baidu Maps with its online ruler tool similarly indicates a width of roughly 40 meters:

    nzHpRgh.jpg

As 1 x 1 SimCity ground tiles are 16 meters x 16 meters, a BAT facade with a width of 40 meters should span across 2.5 tiles.  The published BAT has the main facade spanning 3.5 tiles, or roughly 56 meters, which is too wide.  As the over-wide proportion is then being seen as a perspective effect, it makes the The Sun Co. Ltd. BAT look oddly larger than the Oi Kwan Hotel BAT

Google Earth Pro is a great tool and fun viewer, so I definitely recommend it for everyone interested in SimCity.  Baidu Maps also offers street level views of Chinese cities, and so is useful where Google Maps has only limited coverage.

Hopefully this is helpful and interesting for your future awesome BATs.
