How to always use Light Theme in Firefox (AutoConfig Method)

The other day when updating Firefox, and I found how there was a new "feature" added. My custom theme which I have as a dark blue style, now led the UI panels to display in dark all the time. I was far from impressed. :meh:

One example being with the download dialog:

(While I'd want this if choosing an all dark theme, it doesn't suit me personally.)

So I did some research and had a play around, and then finally figured something out. I found it was possible to lock down about:config settings using something called AutoConfig (which I'd previously never heard of before). More info about it here.

This meant the preference for browser.theme.toolbar-theme which I found to be the solution (when set to 1), could be forced at that value. By forcing the preference, it works around the problem. As a result it means Firefox no longer changes it back to reset the value (to 2) even when opening a new window, or restarting the browser entirely.

Like so:

With the padlock icons indicating those two settings are locked (and the one highlighted being the most important).

It sure is frustrating when things like this happen. Researching it seems this is a very common issue for others too for those who've been searching for a solution. So then having found one myself, I had the thought to create a tutorial video about this. That way it might help others too who run into this, or to be inspired for similar such settings which might be worth locking as well.

Then I decided to make a completely complete job at this, so it led to creating a YouTube channel for myself. *

And so here's the video I've put together in case it might be of use to anyone:

I might upload some SC4 or Simtropolis themed things in future, so we'll have to see about that. Most of the initial 50 odd views were from me since I'm too much of a perfectionist re-re-re-editing the description and such. *

(There's an issue I've had with the description listed chapters being displayed in the video timeline, and still don't appear.)

The zip file I've provided in the description of the video, but I might as well attach it here also for good measure:

Firefox AutoConfig - Force Setting (browser.theme.toolbar-theme).zip  (Tiny 1 Kb file)

The steps I've listed in a bundled text file for the process, which is a straightforward copy into 2 different places and restart Firefox.

Also see the following post I made on the Mozilla Support Forum for a few more details:

Anyhow, maybe this will prove useful for anyone here or who somehow happens to find this topic. *:)
