Site Uploading Error

STEX wont allow me to upload a file, 6.54mb. I know I've uploaded larger files. Says 2mb limit.

I can confirm there is a 2 MB limit for uploading screenshots:

 

Other than this there isn't a files limit for uploading the actual downloadable files for a SC4 category STEX submission. This is the same for all users sitewide.

For larger files, it might be worth trying the external URL option:

No, this is a WinRar folder that wont upload.  I know the pic limits. As a matter of fact, I removed 2mb from the folder to get it down to the 6, but it still wouldn't go. My account profile is currently at 50%. Could that have anything to do with it?

That is unusual, and perhaps it was just an upload error for the server having trouble at the time. The submission process has no restriction for file types either, so .rar files are supported and acceptable (although zip is preferably recommended so they can be opened without a file manager).

I'd not have thought profile completion at 50% would make a difference, but maybe you've come across a site bug and it might do.

If you're still having trouble, try uploading the file to WeTransfer (temporary 7 days free hosting site) and then save the URL inside a text file. Upload this text file to the STEX submission and then we'll download and get it replaced for the file, so it can be uploaded if we'd have more success at our end.

I've used 5% of my 500mb quota, so I know I have plenty of room. So I guess I can't upload maps to the STEX anymore, because I'm not going to go through all of your solution. It sounds way too complicated.

CB is up to his elbows in electrons looking into it. Something is indeed goofy. It could be similar to how randomly some peeps lose the ability to send a PM and resetting the cache fixes that. Hang on and we'll let you know what he discovers.

When you do finally get this sorted out, please delete "the banana" so I can upload the file properly. Thank you!

Update:
It's not limited to your uploading. Even Cori and I get the same error, and so with this confirmed as a likely global issue, we've added an Announcement to the STEX. The same issue we've also confirmed for attachments as well, so this is more widespread than it initially appeared.

There have been server updates yesterday which we suspect might be responsible for this. We're investigating to see what can be done.

While we would not do that, it makes sense from your perspective.

 

Anyhow, it turns out one of the updates Dirk installed is called Nginx and it did make the site more responsive. Still needs some tweaking tho. For now, he's disabled it and we are back to normal. We've both tested uploading files and no more errors, so we're confident the issue is resolved atm.

Any more specific info on the Nginx software installed? They do several things, web server, load balancers, security etc...

This is just professional curiosity and and offer to help out if, I've used bits n pieces of theirs in the past and could possibly be of some help here if its needed/wanted.
