Where would find the .sav files from the traffic simulation configuration tool. To delete these duplicate subway icons. Like where in my plugins folder is it located?

Hi @MichaelJBull769

I have used the TSCT often and haven't noticed a .sav file. Might you be thinking of he SC4Tool? It does create a .sav file in the same directory as the edited file.

If you are thinking that could be the cause of duplicate icons, you might check this response by Tarkus (Link). You could have a left over file from a previous NAM installation.

Would I have to reinstall SimCity 4 from gog.com offline as of the Simcity1.dat file might be the problem...?

I've moved my plugins to a backup on the desktop. Reinstalled the game and NAM 41 and duplicate subway icons still show.

Hmmm... I just re-installed NAM 41 myself and did notice the duplicate subway icons. They are spaced out a great deal in the menu so I guess I just hadn't noticed it before. I believe NAM 41 was the first using the new installation method that attempted to put all the main network icons at the tops of each of their respective menus. Perhaps that had something to do with it.

I don't have duplicate Subway icons here--either with my current NAM 42 development build, or with NAM 41.  There were files in earlier NAMs (including NAM 36) that also moved the Subway icons, and it's worth noting that unlike every other file type out there, when the game loads multiple copies of the same icon, it duplicates them, rather than overriding them.  If those are still hiding somewhere, that might well be a source of issues.

The file that contains the intended icon moves is NetworkAddonMod_Misc_Transit_Menu_Adjustment.dat, located in the Network Addon Mod\1 Core folder.  The old NAM 36 and earlier version went by the file name NetworkAddonMod_Custom_Misc_Transport_Menu_Plugin_Optional.dat.  If the latter file isn't present, a Plugins Analzyer search in ilive's Reader, or use of rivit's SC4DataNode would probably help track down any potential duplicates that may be hiding elsewhere.

Hmmm... curious. This is the weirdest thing then. Reinstalled again, and made sure no other plugins present. Still have two...

One at the top and one down the menu a ways - after the EL-Rail/GLR stations...

That's why I wasn't seeing it.  It looks like the exemplar that's supposed to block the other one isn't working.  Whenever someone reports "duplicate icon", the immediate mental image for me is of the two being right next to each other (which is by far the most common situation).

I was initially thinking the same. Probably have gone past it hundreds of times without catching it. I did look at the files in DataNode and it 'appears' to have two different entries with different values that are supposed to be either overriding another or being overridden... Maybe something isn't in the correct order...? I only say 'appears' because I'm not that familiar with using it and could very well be reading things incorrectly.

My research turned up that, of all places, there's a duplicate cancellation and replacement pair of Subway Icon Exemplars in the Traffic Simulator .dat files.  Don't know why exactly that is (other than a very minute adjustment of network cost), but fixing it without returning to the undesirable result of the Subway menu button being 23rd or so on the menu may not be an easy fix, because of how the Traffic Simulator files are handled.

Given that previous NAM versions had a "Custom Menu Layout" option that also included Subway Icon Exemplar pairings to move the button's location, which would have been contemporaneous with the exemplar pair in the Traffic Simulator files, this isn't exactly a new thing.

Edit: Figured out how I can edit the TSCT's template files.  Should have a fix for NAM 42.

    Hi all,

This is the first time I write here so I hope I understood correctly the passages above and possibly will provide this thread with some useful feedback. I use NAM 42 and had the same problem, concerning duplicated subway icons (in my case they were one after the other in the menu, so I couldn't fail to notice them).

I ran the SC4DataNode and realized that three Traffic Simulator Files, which were probably saved by the TSCT in the main folder of NAM, were overridden by files already present in NAM subfolders "5 DataView Options" and "9 Traffic Simulator" and that existed since the installation of NAM.

I removed the old files in the subfolders, and the double icon issue has disappeared, but I still have to verify whether this will also impact the traffic simulation (I assume that this will be the case, and that probably the custom traffic simulation I created never really worked as expected, since the relevant files were overridden).

The file you would have removed out of "9 Traffic Simulator" would have been the traffic simulator itself.  If you have a custom TSCT-generated one sitting in the main "Network Addon Mod" folder, you should still have a NAM Traffic Simulator, and the way load order works (at least on Windows systems), the one in "9 Traffic Simulator" would have loaded later and overridden your custom one.

Thank you for this reply (and also, while I am writing, thank you for all the fantastic work on the NAM mod!)

So, if I am not mistaken, my error was that I did not instruct the TSCT to look for the simulator in the right folder, so it created a second (ineffective, as it turned out) traffic simulator when I tried to modify the already existing one.

Eventually, it seemed that in my case the duplicate subway icon was in fact related to the co-existence of these two simulators.

But seriously why is this happening I don't have anything from old NAM installs that  would cause this.

You might not think you do, but it is the only logical explanation for their presence that I can think of. It's not like these files just appear by themselves, so somewhere there simply must be duplicated files of some sort.

It's simple to test, remove everything from your Plugins folder temporarily, then install a clean version of NAM, so it's the only content present. I'm quite certain then you won't have more than one of these icons. If that is the case, you'll need to do some careful pruning in your regular Plugins folder. You might find simply swapping the new 'clean' Network Addon Mod folder with the previous one you were using is sufficient here. Assuming any problem files were located within this folder, otherwise you are going to need to dig deeper.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.
