Removing the New Year's firework effect?

Hello ST,

I have recently noticed that once I get to larger cities (around the point that I start zoning in medium density) the fireworks that appear during the month of January as part of the New Year celebrations (plus the "Happy New Year!" unclickable news bulletin) seem to cause my game to chug slightly until they go away. (The chug gets worse as the city gets larger.) Is there any way to hide or straight-up remove these fireworks from my cities?

Good timing! As it happens, Cori created a mod the other day to do precisely this.

Copy the file into Plugins and then the New Years fireworks will no longer be an event anywhere in your cities. Also it will prevent the news bulletin too.
