I recently started zoning in my city and I'm only at 58k and it's not going so well.  I've never seen so many riots in my life, I have huge, mostly empty schools and tons of dumb Sims, my mayor rating is red, and I'm constantly getting notifications about unhappy sims.  I have TONS of parks, low pollution, low crime, short commutes, taxes at 0% and everything I usually have when I start seeing 'Mayor A Giant Governing Gifts' notifications.

Another oddity is that my residential demand is off the charts.

I had the radical ordinance mod installed briefly and I'm wondering if this maybe a lingering effect from that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated60498d173bd87_SadDumbSimsWTF.jpg.1f6c078a630b938f59b2ba088501d506.jpg

I'd put the taxes back to 9% - what a bunch of freeloaders...  You've got copshops?, clinics and primary schools? If you put the taxes up, the demand will come down, and there might be a better balance of things. You could make some low density industrial or commercial - you seem to have a few out of work zots.  Since you've got lots'o'dough you can afford to shake'm up a bit. Experiment!

I believe I have figured out the why....  I plopped most of the landmarks earlier in the game just to look at them and ended up bulldozing them.

I put in a bunch of Great Pyramids to test and it fixed the mayor rating quickly (I didn't save).  The question now is how long does this negative effect last?   I really don't want to have to jam a bunch of landmarks into this city to counteract the negative effect of bulldozing landmarks.

I do recall a conversation regarding this, but believe that eventually everything should level off again. For example I'd imagine after 10 years or so any short-term negative effects would be long gone. In much the same way, certain YIMBY effects are temporary too, so removing and re-plopping Plazas and Parks would probably be enough to shift things in the right direction. Likewise, if you succeed in some U-Drive it missions, you can get a nice boost in mayor rating, personally I'm a long way past using such things.

But your sims are rioting, which means they are REALLY unhappy, something which doesn't tend to happen without a reason. You might need to trudge through all the data views and graphs, to determine exactly what is upsetting your sims so much. There might also be helpful information in the news ticker or from your advisers. Usually that's a result of rampant crime, poor health, lack of education or really unhealthy levels of pollution, particularly in the water.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

The graphs helped me figure it out, I had added water pumps around the same time I bulldozed the landmarks, so the timing of the drop in mayor rating corresponding to the increase in water capacity made it pretty easy.  The strange part is all the graphs and data views look pretty good (except education dataview), the water pollution is a little more than I like it to be, but I have a fair amount of manufacturing.Untitled2.jpg.22049528edf26c801de5f8a55a54c4ff.jpgUntitled3.jpg.02212beb2753dfb48a58a08b6e987acb.jpg

It has gotten a little better after I built a few landmarks and re-plopped some parks, at this point I can just ignore it because there isn't constant rioting, they were REALLY bad for a while.  As much as I enjoyed see the sims running around flipping cars and burning things, I'm glad they have finally stopped (at least so far).  Hopefully my rating will recover, but I don't really care as long as there's nothing on fire.

    Thanks for the help
