NAM 39 not working

Hi

I have a new computer running Windows 10. I downloaded SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition with Rush Hour. The game application is in my Program Files (x86) and my SimCity 4 folder is in My Documents. I also downloaded "NAM39" and it is under my SimCity folder and plugins.

I downloaded Java and the 4GB patch. My game runs fine but with none of the addons. I have uploaded a list of my SimCity 4 folder and Plugins so you can see what I have or don't have.

Please let me know what I need to do to get the NAM to work?

The reason it isn't working is because, from the appearance of the images, you don't actually have it installed.  The NAM has an installer, and simply dropping the contents of the NAM download into your Plugins folder will have no effect.  The installer is named "NetworkAddonMod_Setup_Version39.jar" (it is a .jar instead of an .exe, as it's a Java-based executable).

It does appear your game installation is a little different than the default--normally, the SC4 stuff in Documents goes into My Documents\SimCity 4, though it appears you have it down another layer of folders as My Documents\GAMES\SimCity 4.  Normally, doing something like this requires an extra command line switch ("-UserDir") on the game's shortcut to specify an alternate location for the My Documents\SimCity 4 contents, since the game is otherwise hardcoded to look there, and not under My Documents\GAMES\SimCity 4.

If you have indeed modified the shortcut to add -UserDir (or had a launcher utility do it for you), the NAM installer is also hardcoded to look at My Documents\SimCity 4, so you would need to specify My Documents\GAMES\SimCity 4\Plugins\Network Addon Mod as the installation directory in the NAM installer.  If the process of modifying the shortcut doesn't sound familiar, then the game is almost certainly still looking for the default, meaning your entire Plugins directory is currently in the wrong spot for the game to read it, and any downloads you've manually installed there will not be loaded by the game.

I'll also note, since your Word document files appear to simply have images embedded in them, it would actually be easier for you in the future to simply attach the images to your post much as you attached the Word docs.

    Tarkus.

I have corrected the location as you stated My Documents\SimCity 4.  I have the "NetworkAddonMod_Setup_Version39.jar" under My Documents\SimCity4 \NetworkAddonMod_Setup_Version39\ see my uploads.

Do I open it in its current location or do I drop and drag the "NetworkAddonMod_Setup_Version39.jar" to my plugin folder and execute it from there?

    Thanks PVK

The setup file can (and should) be opened at the location it is in right now.

@PVK, as @youngwii correctly notes, you'll want to open the .jar where it is.

SC4 will attempt to read any file that's in the Plugins folder--regardless of whether or not it's actually something the game can use.  Files the game can't use will actually slow down the game.

Just to confirm, in the screenshot here, you have two folders "Network Addon Mod" and "NetworkAddonMod_Setup_Version39". The former is what you should get AFTER running the installer. Only instead of adding it to the Plugins folder, it's just sitting here one folder further back, where the game won't load it.

Otherwise you can keep the NAM installer (that's the folder that get's extracted from the .zip file you downloaded), pretty much anywhere on your computer. Installers don't need to be in a specific place to work, unlike the files they install. For example, you've made a bit of a mess of your SimCity 4 folder, clearly you've extracted the installer more than once.

The key thing here is don't mistake extracting the installer, for installing the NAM, this is just an extra step. Until you run the .jar file and actually go through the installer, you will not likely have a working setup. See this tutorial video for a step-by-step guide on using the NAM installers.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.
