Installing Seaport Mods

Hi All,

Just got back into SimCity 4 and have been enjoying it! Just discovered mods and all their potential. I've had some success using certain mods like NAM, but I am struggling to install anything with seaport mods. I think I am overthinking it, but when I download the mods I have no idea where to unzip them. Furthermore, the BSC unofficial guide doesn't make it clear if I need to install the BSC function completely?

Thanks!

Hi @Moose

Almost all custom content can be unzipped into the Documents/Plugins folder provided your game is installed in the regular way. If you have the NAM installed and it is working, chances other downloads should be placed in the same folder that the NAM is in.

As for the seaports... Since you mention BSC, are you trying to install the Functional Seaports? If so, then, yes, all the game files will need to be installed (along with the dependencies). If you don't want some of the seaports to be available, you will need to do some altering of the 'Enabler' files. You can check the documentation for how to do it. Of course, if you meant some other seaports, providing more information about which ones you are trying to use would us help provide more meaningful feedback. One thing you should be careful not to do is trying to use more than one seaport if they're not specifically meant to be together. Depending on which ones and how they act with each other, cities can be made unusable.

Make a solid backup of your regions folder before you add such a thing. Different Seaport Mods cannot coexist, but once a seaport is placed, if the controller changes, you are in real trouble. Just take it easy and maybe even test the effects in a throwaway city.

Due to the fact that only two Seaport Controllers actually exist, in practice it is really simple. You must use either the BSC Seaport or the Pegasus one. Just not both and once you decided on a seaport (controller) to use, it can never be safely removed for regions that used it.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

If I'm not mistaken, there are more than 2. But the others are small. Only PEG and BSC are the biggest ones.
