The lost knowledge - How to reset the UDI training status

As I said in my "first" post, I am not a new user but I lost my previous posts in this forum. Fortunately I found another forum that still have one of my old posts (2009). Since it was in a language other than English, I will write the details here in English.

There are 6 training UDI tasks when you start playing the game.

1. Vehicle

2. Train

3. Tank

4. Plane

5. Fighter

6. Ship

In a newly installed game, you have to pass the corresponding task to unlock other tasks linked to the same type of vehicle. Furthermore, once you finish the training, the training task will not appear ever again.

What makes it special is that this "finished" status is global. That means, if you finished the training, even when you switched to another city/region they will not appear again. So the status must be stored somewhere outside of the city file.

My 2009 research shows the flag is stored in a file call "SimCity 4.cfg" in the "SimCity 4" folder (usualy under "My Documents"). However if you want to reset the status, simply deleting that file is not enough - you have to avoid loading any cities that you already passed the training or started playing UDI. Only then you can try the training task again.

I don't know how many people know about this, but anyway this is some rare "good to know" knowledge about the game.

Another thing that is relevant, is that the "ship" training task can only be triggered by a marina in your city. This means, if you don't want to use cheat code or special mods, the only way you can start playing ship UDI tasks is to fulfill the requirements to create a marina in any city of your game installation. It took me too long initially to figure out why there is no ship UDI tasks years ago, but it is just that simple - create a marina with whatever methods you like, except via UDI task (because the UDI task that unlocks marina is itself a ship task, it cannot appear before you finished the ship training task that require a marina).

The Area 52 also contains a water vehicle, a dolphin-shaped submarine capable of destroying anything on water and even land.

Yes, there are at least 3 buildings that brings UDI tasks: Area 51, car & passenger ferry, and marina. However, only the marina can give the training task. Therefore when you just have the game installed you have to build a marina to experience ship driving.

If you choose to use a cheat code, you can just build a marina, pass the training task, and then quit the city without save. So next time when you come back to the city you can  have tasks linked to the ferry or Area 51, without a marina.
