NAM 39 doesn't work

I just downloaded it on Steams and followed all the step to install it, but I face 2 problem

1/ I can run the Simcity4 and select a city but unable to build a city, the game keep loading then crashed and back to Desktop.

The way I to solve this problem is remove z_NAM Controller_RHD from Plugins file.

2/ When I started to build a city, I can't build anything from the NAM. I click the icon but noting happened....

3/I google the solution and followed it to use Controller Compiler but the outcome is as the photo..

Anything I can do?

First off, welcome to Simtropolis!  The reason you're experiencing the issue described in Point 2 is because of Point 1.  The z_NAM Controller_RHD folder you removed contains all the code required for all the NAM's menu buttons and network additions to function.  Without it, the mod is completely broken and will not work.  The NAM Controller is one of the most critical files in the entire mod.

The best solution--provided you're not trying to run the game on a 32-bit version of Windows and/or you're not on a system with less than 4GB RAM--is to install the 4GB Patch, which increases the game's ability to access memory, allowing it to run all that network RUL code in the NAM Controller to load without overwhelming the game.

There's instructions in the NAM Documentation, but an easier way is to simply extract the attached file below, and place the batch script in the folder where you unzipped the NAM download package, and run it in there.  It should find your SC4 installation and patch the executable accordingly.

Alternatively, if you know you're not going to be using the RealHighway (RHW) feature, it's the biggest component of the NAM Controller, and I've pre-compiled an RHD Controller without it, which should allow the rest of the mod to run without the 4GB Patch--that can be obtained here.

As far as manually compiling a NAM Controller yourself with the Controller Compiler, the Input directory needs to be the \Network Addon Mod\Controller subfolder of the Controller Compiler, and the Output needs to be the z_NAM Controller_RHD subfolder (the one you tried to remove earlier).

-Tarkus

    Thank you Tarkus

I just realized that I made a mistake on installing 4GB patch, it's all ok now.

    You're so nice!

Hello ST Community! By way of introduction I am a longtime SC4D enthusiast who adopted the NAM about 4 years ago (I forget the version) and have since had to reimage my computer, so I'm starting fresh trying to get my SC4D + NAM up and running. I love the NAM, and appreciate all the hard work that is done here to make it happen. It's how SC4D was meant to be enjoyed to the fullest of its potential.

After reading across these boards and others, I must be the one millionth person to have encountered the problem, but I'm getting a non-responsive game as soon as I attempt to load a city tile with NAM39 installed. Note I am running in windowed mode (Win10). The game goes non-responsive and then eventually CTD's. I have run the 4GB patch on the "SimCity 4.exe" file, got the successfully applied message, I see the backup file AND that the executable has been modified at the appropriate time when I ran the patch, so this seems to have worked properly. The symptoms I'm getting look a lot like classic improper application of the 4GB patch, but I can't figure out what's gone wrong here.

FWIW, if I remove the plugin files, all seems to work fine with stock SC4D and patched "SimCity 4.exe" executable.

Now, I did run a cracked version briefly because I misread the compatibility disclaimers. I had meant to go the honest route - thrilled to pay $20 for this game - but thought the Steam version was supplied by Origin, which would render it un-NAM-able. I have since uninstalled the cracked version upon learning that recent NAM works just fine on the Steam version.

Running a Steam installation on a Win10 2011 Thinkpad laptop with i5 processor, 8GB RAM and integrated Intel HD graphics. It has run SC4 with NAM in the past before I had to reimage. Java & all other components seem to have installed correctly.

As a last resort, it seemed neat to just grab a legacy NAM36 since any NAM is better than no NAM, but alas the NAM36 package seems to be very effectively wiped from the internet (well done from a version control perspective).

    Any guidance is much appreciated.

Well it would certainly appear the 4GB patch was run successfully, but all evidence suggests it’s not. Since you have Win10 with 8GB Ram, I think we can safely assume you’ve a 64-Bit edition of Windows too.

Is it possible, after you patch the file, that the original .exe gets restored? Start by going back and double checking this first. It may be security restrictions are ‘protecting’ such files from remaining modified.

If you’ve no plans to use the RHW mod, there is a simple workaround. It’s basically the Full (default) NAM controller that needs the RAM boost (patch), although with enough mods you can get there too. By using this cut-down NAM controller, it should just work again, but it doesn’t include the RHW code:

Just replace the installed controller, with the one in the download. NAM editions up to 36 could do this automatically for you, hence why we’re having all the support issues with it now it’s a manual process. You can use the Custom Compiler tool to make a cut-down controller, but the pre-made ‘lite’ version is just easier.

Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

Thank you RSC for the quick reply. I compared the size of the executables (before and after) and the one I'm running does look like the 4GB-patched one. Is there any other way to tell?

I will probably go ahead and give the 'lite' controller a shot. I don't think I used the RHW mod in the past, so while I was intrigued to try it out I don't think I'll miss it... for me, the most important part of the NAM is the re-programming of sims' travel preferences to make things more like real life. Will this 'lite' controller impact any of that functionality, or will I just lose the RHW tiles & features - and only those components? I just want to make sure I still get all the other benefits and goodies.

I do enjoy all the creative bespoke road tiles, but I won't miss a slice of it if it means getting the rest up and running with the core NAM functionality.

    Thanks again.

By the way - replacing with the 'lite' controller worked. I will roll on with this for a while. Thanks so much RSC!

It's really only the date/timestamp. Provided the SimCity 4.exe file has a date/time after SC4 was installed, you can be fairly sure it's been modified. For example, you could compare it to SimCity_1.dat, since all the game files should have an almost identical date/time, based on when you installed the game.

You can use everything you like as normal, you can even (if you install it), see existing RHW networks, you just won't be able to make them.
