Hi!

I have bought SC4 deluxe edition on Steam because the disc version does not run on Windows 10.

Now what can I do to make the downloads (MODs & BATs) work? Are they working on SC4 bought on Steam?

Thanks for answers

There should be no issues with any either of these working with the Steam version. All digital versions of SC4, except for the one offered by Origin, come fully patched (which is required for installation of some mods like NAM). Just FYI, the Origin version is not only not patched, it isn't patchable either!

In essence, all versions of SC4 make use of the Documents folder every Windows user account has. Inside that folder, is a folder for SimCity 4, inside of which are two further folders, Plugins and Regions, among others. Regions contains a folder for every region in your game, plus individual files for each city within them, i.e. the save data. Plugins is used for locating your custom mods. In both cases, if you have data you'd like from a previous install of SC4, these two folders just need to be copied over and they'll work as before with your new install. Depending on how you upgraded your system, such data might even still be in place.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

One crucial thing to do when running SC4 from steam  is setting the game to only use one CPU core.
To do this, in steam right click on the game and select properties, It'll open a window with a button to "set launch options" in it. Clicking that will display the launch arguments for launching the exe.

There are guides for this that go more in depth, but the essential line to add is:

-CPUCount:1

That line sets SC4 to only use one CPU core, and greatly increases game stability.

This can also be used to set a custom resolution or alter other game options.

This sets the resolution:

-CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32

This turns off the intro video

-Intro:off

So all three of these together would like like this:

-CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32 -Intro:off -CPUCount:1
