The scan tab in NAM

What is the scan tab in the NAM installer for? If you click "scan", and if you get a list of files afterwards, you get a "delete" option.

Is there a way to reduce number of the files NAM installs after you have installed the game and NAM? This might reduce the load time. I don't need all of those options.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it's looking for files that should be removed, prior to installing NAM. If you want less options, just deselect that which you don't want in the relevant part of the installer. But, the real killer is the default full-size controller, that will be the #1 culprit for slowing the load times down, since there are many millions of lines of RUL code that need to be loaded into memory. To reduce that, you must run the Controller Compiler included with the NAM installer package, it too is a Java App. Just removing the RealHighway (RHW) code from that, is going to make a huge difference. However, if you are using RHW, that won't necessarily be an option for you.

The other thing to be aware of as a Mac user, you'll probably want to DATPack the NAM after installing it, due to the file limit of that version. You can do this using a tool JDAT Packer, which also uses Java, This also helps prevent some load-order issues in NAM, due to the differences between Mac and PC file/folder ordering.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

The "setup" tab, which includes that "Start scan" button, is basically a built-in equivalent of the BSC Cleanitol tool, which was built into our old installer between NAM 31 and NAM 36.  In essence, it searches for conflicting/old files from a list and removes them.  It's also designed to look for dependencies from another list, though in the case of the NAM, there are no dependencies to find.  It's run before the actual process of installing NAM files.
