Real Railroad tracks on hills

I'm going a little crazy trying to lay railroad tracks on hilly ground after I upgraded to the latest NAM.  The tracks seem very unforgiving about terrain.  I'd like it to behave like the old Maxis railroad did.

Anyone else have this problem?  What can I do?

The NAM has a built-in slope mod, which is meant to strike a balance between the original Maxis slopes (which can be unrealistically steep) and real life (in which railways tend to use extremely gradual slopes).

The good news is, there's an easy way to turn this off. This is taken directly from the NAM 38 description:

"One may choose to disable the RRW's more restrictive default slope settings by unselecting the "RRW Tunnel and Slope Parameters" box in the installer."

So just run the installer again and unselect that box. That should fix the problem.

Indeed this option is selectable in the NAM installer, but if you plan to re-run the NAM installer, remember you need to remove the old install (Network Addon Mod folder) manually before you do. You therefore might find it easier to simply find the file in question and delete it, saving the re-install and setting everything up once more. The file in question "RealRailway_SlopeParameters" is located here:

Plugins\Network Addon Mod\2_Additional Network Features\Rail (RealRailway)\c_RealRailway_Tunnel\Tunnel and Slope Parameters

However, this file doesn't simply change the slope settings, but it also ensures the new RRW tunnels will appear properly. Assuming you don't want the adjusted slopes, but DO want the RRW compatible tunnels to work, you should use this alternative slope mod, I've attached to this post.
