Invisble rails (NAM?)

Hi. First things first I'm using the most recent version of NAM. I've noticed that when placing rails the preview looks as if I was placing industrial zones, not highlighted rails, and once placed they're not visible, neither can I connect them to other cities. This also happened to me briefly but with roads, but I don't know what "fixed" it. Does anyone know if this is an issue caused by NAM?

As NAM has a modular installation, I'm not using all of its features, just some of them with their default settings: Core, Automata Controller, DataView Options, Misc (only Maxis Transit Lots), Texture and Drive Side Support, Traffic Simulator, and z_NAM Controller_RHD. Other plugins used are the Opera House fix and SC4Fix.

I'll attach some screenshots to show how the issue looks. On image Nº1, I can place a single rail with no issues.

On Nº2, I drag the rails to cover a straight line, losing its proper highlighting.

Finally, on Nº3, as you can see (or technically not), the rails are actually placed, but not rendered. However, you can see there are vehicles aiding with the construction.

Just a question - when installing the NAM did you select and install Real Railway. The behaviour you see is consistent with only having the rules for the old MAXIS rail and nothing (no textures, models, rules and lots) for the new Real Railway. That dragged line has rail but you can't see it.

Reinstall the NAM (over what's there) selecting the Real Railway as well this time and it should come right.

Almost--the RULs for the RealRailway are actually there (they're installed as part of the NAM's Core files), but since the textures/models/exemplars are not, that's causing the blank draw.  It looks like we're going to need to make many of the RealRailway boxes mandatory in the installer, as deselecting them just leads to a borked installation.

No, I didn't, I'm gonna try that and let you know how it went as soon as I can.

Edit: Nope, didn't work, it still looks the same. When I installed NAM, I only wanted the features that tweak or balance mechanics that are already in the game, not adding new stuff, so I don't know why this is happening. Uninstalling NAM entirely fixes the issue though.

Edit 2: I tried removing every folder inside Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins\Network Addon Mod one by one, and it seems the issue lies somewhere inside 1_Core. What should I do?

NAM 37 only supports the newer RRW package. Long and short, there is no way to install NAM 37, without changing rail to RRW. There will be a separate legacy version of NAM available at some point, which would be more ideal for someone in your situation.

If you have access to one, right now you are probably better installing NAM 36 as a workaround to this problem. However we neither support nor make available legacy versions of NAM officially.

It might look that way, but the RUL (code that makes everything work), will always point to RRW IDs. Again, you can not remove RRW even manually running the controller compiler.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

I was having the exact same problem, man. To fix it, I had to download NAM again with the RRW_textures files and, unfortunately, start over the city I was building, because it just wasn't registering the rails I was laying.

In this first image, you can see that there is just 4 rails in the Heavy Rail Tile Count, but of course there is more.5f39aea292fa1_CapturadeTela2020-08-16s18_57_59.png.e37ceba3a06b13c0f59897760366fb16.png

On Nº2, the rails doesn't appear on data.

But just in this city happened this and any other new one everything is normal.

I'm sorry for the English, I'm from Brasil.

Well that sucks, I just wanted the rebalance stuff, but a fix is a fix, thank you.

It still feels like you've misunderstood about the nature of the RRW changes and how it's become a default feature as of NAM 37.

If you really hate RRW that much, you'll just have to wait for the Legacy Maxis Rail version of NAM, which will do exactly what you need. Frankly, if all you use is the basic fix part of NAM anyway, there is really nothing new in NAM 37 to make it worth upgrading from NAM 36 at this time. If you kept a copy of the NAM 36 install folders or installer itself, you can go back. But if you didn't, for team policy reasons I totally agree with, even though in your case I do understand an exception may be warranted, we simply can't open the flood gates and offer older versions of NAM.

If the Heavy Rail Count is showing wrong, something somewhere is not working correctly. Open a blank fresh city, build some rail and place a station which shows this stat. If the value reads correct in this scenario, you can be sure there is nothing wrong in your Plugins folder/NAM install. In such a case, re-drawing all the segments of rail may be required to see refresh everything and show accurate figures here.
