Hi.

I'd like to know if someone happens to have the license file for SimCityPak or knows how to contact oppie. I want to work on the modding tool, but since Codeplex is only an archive now I can only download the source code and there is no way to upload my changes. So I created a new public repository on GitHub for me and anyone else that wants to improve the tool. The issue is that the license file for SimCityPak is nowhere to be found on Codeplex, and that puts me in a weird place, since I neither own the software or have permission to modify or distribute it.

So again, if anyone knows how to contact oppie or someone that worked on SimCityPak has the original license file, please message me, as that would help me a lot.

Thanks in advance.

Hiya.

At first I was going to panic seeing you ask for a License file, but I did some checking and found the original thread ( SimCityPak - Modding Tool ) where @oppie was asking for peeps to help with the modding tool creation so this doesn't seem to be a pirate-like request. I don't play the game, but I see @Cyclone Boom added a message banner to the old topic with a linky to this post which might help you get what you are looking for.

Good luck. And welcome to Simtropolis. *:)

It seems indeed that the project is of an open nature, although as I said, I can't find the license file anywhere and will wait to see if someone can help me locate it.

I will keep trying to work on the project and make my changes public here. I'm new to C# and .NET, so this can help me improve my skills.

Thank you very much for your help and for replying so quickly.

I can't believe what a facepalm moment this is.

The license file was inside the zip file on Codeplex. I just noticed it after trying to find it for a week. If I had just looked into the whole archive instead of just the source code...

Simtropolis Community, enjoy this facepalm moment.

I'm glad I got what I needed at least.

    Woot!

I'm happy to see you found what you needed. (And that also lets us know it's intended to be shared.) Thanks for posting back so anyone else who is in search of said license file will know where to look.

Just for info, including license file is a standard practice in the open source community. You are obligated to include the license and/or not removing the license at the start of the code (or header) if you want to fork (or include parts) of a software. So, if someone seeks for license file for an open source project, don't worry. It's normal thing.

    Thanks.

I know it's been a year, but you deleted the GitHub page so I'm wondering what happened? I was excited to see someone still wanting to dig into the game's files and mod it, since the major contributors all dissappeared years ago. I love this game and I believe it could be modded to fix many of the problems it has, mainly city size (Project Orion is great but I'm sure it could be expanded and enhanced).
