Are you guys still playing SimCity 2013? If the answer is yes, which server are you playing on?

SimCity 2013 is almost, but not quite, completely dead. :O

Every month or three tho, someone pops in looking for other peeps to join up with and due to the low activity it seems that rarely happens. Nearly everyone at Simtropolis plays either SimCity 4 or Cities: Skylines.

Is 4 a better game ?
I like the play of the features of cities of tomorrow, is that in version 4? isn't version 4 older than sc2013?

IMO, yes. But please know I have never played SC2013 so it's might be unfair for me to say SC4 is better. We can, however, look at how active the SC4 forums are compared to SC2013 and surmise many peeps like SC4 better.

I imagine the play features of SC4 are different. Having never played SC2013, I can't give any direct comparison. *;)

Yes. SC4 is older than SC2013. Maxis (or EA) made the mistake of going a completely different direction when they created SC2013 and the die-hard fans of the complexity and mod-ability of SC4 were not impressed. To complicate matters SC2013 was initially only playable online and they were not properly prepared. The servers were overloaded and that made many players mad.

Although it's older, SimCity 4 is better. I played SimCity 2013 5 years ago (yes, time is so fast). Personally, SC2013 isn't exciting as SC4. For instance, you can't have large city in a region. Second, you can't fill the region with cities. The game has placed the city. Third, mods exist but they're limited. For instance, there's no traffic mod in SC2013 (UDoN is comparable to NWM and RealHighway, Controller is a separate thing but bundled together in NAM). Meanwhile, in SC4 and C:S, there are NAM and TM:PE respectively.

That's my opinion. Thanks.

I never played SC4 so I have no comparison, as for SC2013, If you haven't played it before check it out. The add-on feature of being able to build an Academy city with all the futuristic buildings is great, also being able to build the Omega City is a nice touch, sort of like good and evil, ...lol... Jedi and Sith cities.
@chfzdn I don't really know what you mean about not being able to fill the region with cities., I haven't played it that much or gotten that far yet, but from what I have seen it seems you can create large cities in all the plots. And with the 3K mod,  you can extend the borders and link the cities together.
As for the Mods, I just found that there were mods .... I have been trying to install them for the last few days or so.
Not all work on my machine and not all are compatible seeing how all the mods are half a decade old with no support, it's kind of trial and error.
... As of yesterday I have a fat mod set up.... I have 2 sets, Local (Vanilla), and the Orion version.
I am officially playing the game on a small map, but if I need to go outside the borders for extensions, I will load Orion build what I need then load back in local.
I found that Orion puts all the resources: Coal, water, ore, offset and no real way to mine successfully, so running Orion full time is unrealistic.
anyway just my thoughts.

Don't get me wrong, I did play SC2013 with mods. But, the mod base is smaller than SC4. The first glance is mods to existing buildings, rather than BATs in SC4. Once you go deeper, you get Project Akar, UDoN, and 3K mod. The mods are easier to install than SC4, which is a plus point to SC13. After installing the mod, I opened the game and I get larger cities. I can even build network outside the border. However, it's less stable. I get a CTD when destroying those network. But, it doesn't mean mods are bad. NAM also has a CTD problem when hovering TE lots over puzzle pieces. Fortunately, this problem is fixed although not by NAM Team (though they support the fix). SC2013 is a city builder providing 3D environment while keeping the resource requirement low. Even, I can run SC2013 in my very old laptop with Radeon HD Graphics. It's not always above 30 fps but it's playable with some stutter, just like SC4 in my modern laptops (maybe due to I'm using mechanical drive). Also, the game has lots of new features for instance more refined sewage system, upgrade system, specialization cities, to even ability to shutdown a building, something simple that SC4 lacks. SC4 do offer make a building historical. But, it seems like a band aid to building growth problem. Again, don't get me wrong, I did play SC4 and SC2013. Each game have pros and cons. I do prefer C:S. But due to my specs (the latest laptop of mine can run the game technically, but it's just bare minimum, especially in RAM and core number), I prefer SC4.

Thanks.

SimCity 2013 plays like fast paced, short game, arcade domino's.

The inability to design the map, develop the whole map, and simplistic mechanics limit the potential in 2013. When compared to city skylines, and SimCity 4 in this way, 2013 is terrible.

SimCity 2013's multiplayer capability is the greatest point going for it. The in game social element surpasses the in game social element of the other two... at least until the SimCity 2013 servers are pulled in some time.

A person might also play 2013 due to how the arcade elements work. Not saying these are winning factors but might* be reasons a person would lean to the game.

1. No road upkeep management, making much easier for young, or casual play.

2. Simplified power lines, there is a mod in city skylines that does this so not a point toward that game anymore. I'm not sure if there is a mod that automated power plants in SimCity 4.

3. Elements like plopping government buildings is simplified when compared to city skylines. Fewer plop angles make it easier choice wise. (SimCity 4 has the highest angle simplicity)

4. Economics appears to also be easier in 2013 in contrast to city skylines. I don't know if its how the 2013 displays values, or if the game is generally* more positive economically.

5. Small map size means you know what kind of building will be needed where, based on how much land a player has left.

6. Water is also simplified, no need to build, or pay for piping like in city skylines

7. Agents are satisfying to watch, seeing multicolored cars and sims moving around. I think skylines also has an agent based system, I know it has lots of map filters too.

In conclusion SimCity 2013 is an excellent game for young, or older players playing casual. When a player wants a "city thing" with their friends, without having to put much effort to manage.

I think the nostalgia, of SimCity 2013 is weaker due to the inability to modify terrain in game, likewise in SimCity 4. And is weaker then skylines nostalgia as the map is too small to have memorable road network setups I think.

Getting back to point, once the servers are pulled mobdogg, SimCity 2013 will quickly die, only having the limited offline global market variant. Not dead yet, but coming soon.

I normally play on the American 1 server, my friends when they do play, are normally on the oceanic 1 server. Also, check out my megatower fix mod, massively improves Cities of tomorrow play experience.

I still love this game. It has something that Cities Skylines just can't do.
