Hey everyone

Its time for me to get a new laptop and I'm strongly considering the latest MacBook Pro. Can anyone tell me if the entry level MacBook Pro configuration could run SimCity at its highest graphics and performance settings? I've included its specs below, however I don't understand what they mean.

Processor: 1.4GHz quad-core Intel Core i5

Graphics: Intel Iris Plus Graphics 645

Memory: 8GB of 2133MHz LPDDR3 onboard memory

Any replies would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks

Looking at the SimCity: Complete Edition for Mac FAQ (in the Requirements section), it seems the new laptop might fall short on this part:

  • CPU Speed: 2.2 GHz

However, the CPU (Processor) minimum requirement is an Intel Core Duo so the Quad Core and i5 you'd be getting might make up for that. I know that the GHz of newer processors is muddled more now than they used to be and I'm simply not sure if final speed of 4 cores at 1.4 GHz would be more than 2 cores at 2.2 GHz.

Then there are a couple of other spanners thrown in which complicates the answer. :O

First off will be which Operating System (OS) it will have. See the topic: Apple Phasing Out Support for 32-bit Applications in 2018; SC4, SC2013 Likely Affected for some more details.

More specifically when Tarkus says this there:

On 12/16/2017 at 8:34 PM, Tarkus said:

macOS High Sierra (10.13) will be the last version of macOS to support 32-bit applications "without compromise".

Then the other complication with any new computer will be whether or not the drivers for the Graphics card/system include the backward compatibility to fully support the old DirectX which the game uses. I'm not a Mac user myself so I don't know the answer to this for the laptop you are considering.

Thanks for taking the time CorinaMarie, much appreciated

I'll definitely take your information into account as I research a bit more...very disappointing that they are starting to phase out compatibility with the game. I've always played on the lowest possible settings so was excited at the prospect of being able to play on high settings, it seems way more fun.

    Thanks again.
