Unread Content tab

Hi

I've tried to go to the posts\comments and threads this tab points me to when clicking on it but to actually open up the posts to read what's said in them there's no option for?

To go to the posters profile plus adding one comment of your own to whatever is said in it is possible but no, as i can see, way to directly go to the content posted to read it?

Hiya, @Toby66.

I'm a wee bit confuzzled exactly what option we are talking about here. Where do you find an Unread Content Tab? I know we have those little circles on the forum indexes which will allow you to jump to the next unread post within a topic and from there you can quote text and reply.

For the second part, are you asking about when you use the Find Content button on someone's profile and/or by hovering over their avatar? Once there you'd be seeing only their posts or topics depending on what you select on the left side of the screen. Let's presume you are viewing their Posts. Should you want to reply to a post you can click the title linky to jump to that post in its thread and from there you can quote and/or reply.

Let me know what I'm not understanding and we can go from there.

Hi @Toby66 and thanks for asking.

Admittedly this Unread Content function isn't something I've used all too often, but I'll try to explain it the best I can.

Taking a look at it now, and this feed is supposed to list items posted around the site which you've not yet viewed. For instance if there's a new reply and that will have the title bolded and a pink circle icon to indicate it's unread and not a topic you've posted in. If already posting inside somewhere, this will be a black star icon. Clicking the icon or the title will redirect you to the latest reply there. Whereas clicking the post date at the bottom directs to that individual item, whether it's the latest comment or not.

Clicking the link to access the feed, you'll see a few options at the top:

As a summary of these:

• Show me
  Filter between items which are individually posted like a new topic or file, and also using different tags.
   
• Content Types
  Which area of the site should the feed display results from.
   
• Read Status
  This is the key for the Unread items to be listed. It's also possible to display all content from everywhere by removing this filter.
   
• Ownership
  To narrow down the results from all items, specific ones you've started, posted in yourself, or from specific authors.
   
• Following
  An additional filter for determining what listed content should be shown, depending on the ways you've chosen to follow them (forums, items, authors).
   
• Time Period
  The duration of how far back the feed should display results from. The maximum timeframe is from 1 year ago.
   
• Sorting
  To determine whether the feed should be sorted from oldest to newest (default), or the other way around.

 

For the "Read Status" config:

If choosing the option I've highlighted above, it makes the titles of content listed go directly to the item. So say there's a new reply to a thread for example. Instead of jumping to that as the latest reply, it'll instead navigate to the thread upon clicking. Is this what you were looking for?

Should any combination of these settings be useful, there's a    button to confirm your changes. Then once saved, new streams will then be listed under the "My Streams" dropdown list under the SimTopical navigation menu. These are only visible to yourself on a per user basis.

I hope this helps to clarify, but I'll try to elaborate further if this doesn't answer your questions.

I was after i clicked on the "unread content" button viewing the page to the left where the "recent status updates" are and didnt take time to view the entire page to see what the whole page is about totally.

That's a sinner right there catching myself with my hand in the lazy cookie jar and bringing myself to justice with total disregard for my own safety and no matter what the punishment will become.

Does, i have now actually become a brave, brave forum user. Stuff for legends and stories for the kids to listen to told by really old grandpa's.

Well, excuse me for taking up both of your time now and i think i'm a bit ashamed for real and i just had to joke about it.

Safety procedure. I think it goes back to school time when i was bullied and i hope you both are certified psychiatrists now because i feel really chatty right now.

No worries whatsoever. I suspect not everyone knows how the activity feeds work anyway, or have never looked at them closely to realise. The nice thing is should anyone else find this topic, through you asking here and it means others might now realise about it too. That is after all how forums are so useful.
