On the CD based game, hovering over your executable and checking it's version 1.1.638.0 will prove EP1 is successfully applied. Then upon installing the BAT Nightlights Update, this will be incremented to 1.1.640.0 to show that's present and correct.

For digital games other than the notorious Origin version, they'll come pre-patched to version 1.1.641.0 which indicates the EP1 Update has been installed, along with the BAT Nightlights Update. In this case manually updating isn't required, and the patches wouldn't work anyway since the executable's checksum is different for digital versions.
