So the thing is you need to expand horizentally before you can start getting more dense and vertical growth, also do you have the NAM, you know Diagonal Streets is a thing, the STNAM fixes some bugs in the game, make sure you have plenty of Com and Ind.

I remember playing about a year ago and i was able to have Apts almost right away...   I started with medium density back then to get my city growing fast so im not sure why this time is a no go

what about the neighbour tiles?? what do those look like, jump out of the current city and go play an adjacent tile, making sure to satisfy your RCI demand.  this will help relieve caps.

My guess is: No, that shouldn't hurt and likely ought to help increase the need for more dense residential. Have you tried Ctrl+Zoning? Do one that way that is 2x3. (Dezone the empty, existing ones first.)

You can see the negative effect on Land Value alongside the avenues in the screenshot.

I'd guess that maybe you haven't reached the Stage Limit thresholds, perhaps because you don't have enough parks and civic buildings, or just because the town isn't big enough yet.

You could test by saving the game, placing a bunch of parks near the medium-density zoning, and seeing what happens and reloading.

well so lets say you have a row of 1x3 (with the second number being the depth) when the game develops lots if it wants to build a 3x3 lot it will combine the 1x3s automatically. same with 1x2s

Yes, that's true. However, when using Ctrl+Zoning for the footprint you want it makes the game consider that first. *;)

yea this is what should happen, its why in an undeveloped city I only zone low density residential, with Ind either Agr or Medium, but Commercial is the only one I that I will always zone high density. The reason for only doing low res is because if you've not satisfied stage limits and various caps you will get low wealth medium density buildings. Its good if you will increase your population would it can overwhelm the cities services like Edu and healthcare , and also create more crime which lowers desirability. I suspect that your demand mod is messing things up, because you should be able to zone medium density and get low wealth apartment complexes from the very start.

I'm on Windows 8.1 and I tried it and I think it saved an image somewhere , as the screen flashed when I pressed it. I've got a Windows 10 SSD as well but that one is not in my computer right now as Windows 8.1 has my music library and I'm working on a DJ set. I'm sure it works the same on Windows 10, I didn't bother to chase after it to see if it made an image file in my pictures folder.

no I don't use it, try removing it and see if it you can get higher density developments.

and for the Windows key + Print Screen it made the screen flash but I couldn't find where the  screen capture was saved to. but it doesn't matter because you print screen and paste it directly to here.

I've never used it and don't plan to. Do you have the CAM mod installed?? if so then that changes things a lot , I've never used it and don't know what changes it makes to the gameplay.

Good point here, and this can be useful to encourage specific types of buildings develop at a certain lot size.

    @46377mike

If useful, I'd previously made a post here which outlines using Ctrl and other methods for precision zoning:

It appears you have some sort of Demand Mod as those numbers are way above normal. :O

    Lmao

You must have some sort of demand mod installed, because in one of your screenshots, you have demand almost up to 40,000 sims. The vanilla game only has demand up to 6,000 and CAM only increases this to 18,000 (if I remember correctly).

My bet would be absolutely that such a mod can cause the behaviour you are seeing. Because when you start messing with demands to such an extreme that a city of 15,000 sims has total res demand for almost 90,000 sims, something is hideously out of whack.

The second and third screenshots show apartments grew where you zoned medium density (as well as some smaller ones just above them), so what isn't growing as you would expect?

@46377mike CAM 2.1 gets the demand bars up that high... just a thought... And with this installed (depending on the installation options), the grow stages are different...

    Kind regards!
